Another day dawned over the 4th Kingdom even though it was late morning. The river that divided both the Troll and Wendell's Kingdom was as calm as the blue sky above a small steam boat that carried several natives including that of a young girl from the 1st Kingdom Kayley, who was glad to be back in the Kingdom that she came from. She sat in the stern waiting a few men fish with nothing, but a stick and a string. The old way. It was funny to watch, but interesting to see, who was going to catch the biggest fish and by the looks of it wasn't going to happen. Kayley looked over the side into the dark river below seeing her reflection staring back at her watching the sun bouncing on the water. Shielding her eyes she looked across the way to the 4th Kingdom side of the river, everything was peaceful, but she didn't worry much about the war since it was over.

Kayley tried not to remember her journey to the place where she grew up. Beantown. It was once a wonderful town with high expectations in some matter of speaking. Now she came home to expect a peaceful, happy town and gotten nothing, but a ruin town that was now a scar on the face of the 4th Kingdom. She did help people find belongings and priceless family heirlooms that had made it through the Troll Invasion. It was sad to see the people like this and she wished to speak to Wendell. Hoping for some kind of fund to help the people of Beantown rebuild. If she did get to meet him, but that would be harder to do than anything else at the moment. 'Just forget about it.' she thought to herself as an old ruin castle came into view on a hill nearby. Kayley stood up to get a better look at the castle. It was both beautiful and scary all at once. Though Kayley had other ideas.

When the boat docked Kayley asked for the directions to the castle. The man laughed and looked at Kayley as if she was crazy then walked on. She stood there for a moment then deciding to get there herself. Kayley walked in the direction of the castle climbing in steep hill until she reached level ground once more. Looking around she ventured onward into the abandon castle's courtyard or what was left of it. Kayley knew that she wouldn't venture into the castle since many said it was a bad omen. Kayley looked up at the half broken tower knowing that this place was Snow White's evil stepmother's castle or one of them. Walking over to a low wall she sat down and looked around. "Why are we going though these Dark Times?" she asked herself not really knowing the answer to it.

Lauren Lambchild paced back and forth for a while. To go or not to go that was the questions. Things were getting oh so very hectic in the Little Lamb Village, and she was sick of it all. They would accuse her of attracting attention, decide they were better off without her...HAH! Just imagine their surprise (and by they she meant the girls) when the men would all follow her, dying to know where she went. She smiled a private smile as she scribbled a note to her landlord. Yes, she was leaving. She had chosen the first option.

Quickly she packed up a bag with food and clothes and ran out the door. She needed to get out of here.

Now that she was out, a question came immediately to mind: now that she was free, free of being a shepherdess and all that crap, where was she to go?

the castle. The Stepmother's castle. it was deserted. SHe didn't believe in superstitious crud either. That would be the perfect stop. She ran out of the village and grabbed a taxi carriage by the door.

"To the castle of snow whites stepmother."

"Aren't you going to say please?" The man asked. he was drunk, she could tell.

"No, I'm not. Get your fat lazy butt going if you want money tonight." She said, getting in the backseat.

Kayley sat on the wall for a while or so. Her mind was focusing on the paper below her as the picture of a section of the castle begin to appear on the paper in front of her. Her eyes glancing up ever so often to make sure she got every little detail. She smiled for a bit looking the drawing over until she matched it with the section of the castle look equal. Kayley lend her head back into the tree trunk behind her looking up with a heavy sigh wishing that someone could be here so she wouldn't have to be alone so much. She placed the pencil and pad back into her bag and looked around not really knowing what to do at the moment.

Hearing a noise far off made Kayley's ear zone in onto the noise growing clearer. She at first didn't know what to do until the noise grew louder and much more nearer than before. She darted behind a nearby tree that was shaded and watched as a carriage pulled up, "Did she find a successor?" she asked herself fearing it was another successor, but when the carriage drove off all there was was a girl around her own age. Kayley breathed a sigh of relief,"Hello. What are you doing here?" she asked coming out behind the tree rather quickly. Kayley hoped that this girl was nice even though she began to fear it inside, but kept a strait face.

Lauren hated the ride. As soon as she was out, she slammed the door and paid the man.

"Next time I'll use a different cab, you drunk ba---rd!" She cried. "Don't you ever lay a hand on me again!" She turned. SOmeone had spoken to her. Someone... that could mean trouble. She turned around to see a girl, a bit older than her. She looked scared, though obviously trying to hide it. Why did she care why Lauren was here?

"Well that's a nice thing to ask right off. And I don't plan to tell you too much about myself." Lauren said. Without wasting a moment, she began to branch out. "And don't try to be friends with me, it really won't work." She said with a careless glare. "Anything else?"

Kayley raised an eyebrow at the girl, who had a rather vulgar mouth. She had never seen someone being moody all the time. She could sense it just by watching her actions although she wasn't judging her in anyway. Once she looked at her Kayley smiled not really being scared at all. She still wasn't so sure about this girl and Kayley felt sorry for the poor cab man.

"I'm not the royalty type and nor do I ask those questions." Kayley said with a smile knowing that she was different and being from a Kingdom with a lot of royalty it was hard to find a girl such as herself, but she felt better in the Kingdom where she grew up. "I don't know you so why would I be friends with you?" she asked back then adding a short "No." to the end of her sentence. Kayley only hope that this girl wasn't planning on staying here or in the town nearby would consider her a successor of the Queen.

Lauren could sense her pity for the cab driver.

"Oh don't pity him, he's rather drunk, he won't remember." Well this was a fine mess. what was with this girl? Why did she want to talk to Lauren? Lauren could feel anger seeping through her. Calming her nerves, she opened her bag and rummaged for a moment, feeling the girl's eyes on her. Where were they... ah! she took out a pack of cigarettes quickly.

Lauren never smoked. She had tried it, once. At a party. The taste and loss of air had made her never want to do it again. But she wanted to scare this girl off. Within seconds she had a match out and had lit the the cigarette. She held it to her mouth, but made sure not to inhale. She could fake things wonderfully, and this was one of them. Without taking a bit of cigarette smoke, she continued her act.

"Well. Speak, don't be mute, who are you? And why are you here? trying to hide something, hmm? Doing some dirty little deed you're not supposed to be caught doing?" She realized the pack of cigarettes was still in her hand. "Do you want one then?" Her eyes were challenging. They were stating 'do it, come on. Are you afraid of a little smoke?' Of course the look was completely hypocritical, as she herself couldn't deal with smoking. She knew the bad effects and considered it stupid to do something so horrible to herself. She raised an eyebrow. "Quiet one, eh?"

Kayley shook her head,"They'll remember. My friend remembered when he was drunk. Of course that was his birthday party." she said still looking at the girl. Of course she could sense anger and she wasn't doing anything wrong she was just talking to the girl. Trying to be nice and a likable person which she usually was. She was about to say don't smoke. She hated it and knew it cause Lung Cancer cause her Aunt's sister did and now was well...dead.

"I'm no mute. I'm here because I want to get away from the 1st Kingdom. I wanted to come back to the Kingdom that I was born and raised in. I have nothing amidst. I never do such a thing. " Kayley said being as calm and brave as she did when she should up for her self defense. It was true she wanted to see more of the 4th Kingdom then just Beantown. "No, thankyou." she said turning the question down. Kayley never wanted to try one and never the less she wanted to remain clean. "Yes, I guess I am."

Lauren could see the utter horror and disaproval on the girl's face. She wanted to keep the act going but somehow it hurt too much too. She threw the cigarette down.

"I don't smoke. It's called acting." She said simply, looking down at the cigarette. It was beginning to rain very hard, and soon the cigarette blew out. Lauren smiled, good riddance. Already there was a tiny bond between her and the girl: her mother had died of lung cancer, and she had told herself that would never happen.

"Really? So a perfectly clean, perfectly nice girl just happens to come here around nighttime, at an evil witch's castle...hmm?" Lauren said, lifting an eyebrow. Her accent was thick and annoyed many, and she loved how it sounded and she annoyed this girl. "Before you ask, I'm not a nice, perfectly clean girl. I can be here." Lauren paced around the girl a moment. "Well then. Is this where our paths go seperate ways?

"I could sense that. I didn't believe it." Kayley said knowing she was acting all along. She felt the rain start to pour and not only the was soaked of course she didn't care. Kayley knew that her vulgar personality was that maybe someone dear to her probably had died just like her mother. She never really wanted to discuss this with anyone nor her own father, ho she hated for breaking her mother's promise.

"I take my chances. I loved being out at night which has more surprises than daytime. I'm not scared."Kayley replied walking pass the girl to a door nearby,"What are you doing here? Here is visit a Haunted Castle?" she asked joking about the second question. "I believe our ways will part once we get inside." she said opening that door which rang out a loud pop that could have been heard from miles around. Kayley walked inside the old ruin castle feeling the horrible memories touching her.

Lauren smiled.

"Are you sure you want to go inside? They say she killed all her servants, one by one. Slow, painful, poisoned and bloody deaths." Lauren said cruelly. "Me? I'm here so that I can see the bodies... I relish in that type of stuff." lauren said sarcastically. She didn't like this girl, didn't want to be friends. She turned around as she entered the castle. "Our paths separate here."

Kayley nodded,"I'll take my chances." she said with a nod knowing she wasn't scared of anything except death of course and everyone was even scared of that. "She left with the impostor Prince. Her servants followed her. They're in the Prison now from what I heard." she said knowing the information that the citizens of Beantown gave her. Kayley knew their wasn't any died bodies in the castle, but probably in the dungeon. She wandered to a darked corridor and lit a torch nearby.

"Don't come crying to me if a mummy gets you." Kayley mumbled under her breath not trying to laugh as she watched the girl go off to her left. Kayley stood there for a moment wandering which way to go. She turned back and walked to the open door and sat down on the steps not worried, but just glad to get out of the rain.

"Oh no, I think you misunderstood me. I meant Snow White's stepmother. When they failed her, all those years ago, she came here in the iron shoes, about to die and slowly murdered them all. Each and every one. They say if you come here and go into the dungeons, you'll never come back." Lauren bit her lip. Nobody said that, but it was true. her father had never returned, had he?

Lauren curled her lip.

"I don't know who you think you are, following me. I could sense it before, you weren't going to go in until I decided to. And now you're here, making snide remarks. Nothing scares me, all right? Not ghosts, mummies, death, anything. All right? And I'm sick of perfect beautiful girls like you thinking they're above anyone. So why don't you just shut the hell up and go the other way?!" Lauren was surprisingly calm as she said the words.

"You haven't heard the rest of the story. Snow White's stepmother is buried underneath her house in the Deadly Swamp. Virginia Lewis herself saw her or what was there." Kayley said remembering the heroic story that she heard about the 4 who saved the 9 Kingdoms. "She was forced to dance in red hot coals and soon afterward crawled out into the Swamp nearby and died soon after Christine's entrance."

Kayley's eyes harden cold,"I wasn't saying I was following you." She replied hearing the next sentence which made her a bit mad,"Excuse me, but I don't carry myself like what you think I do. You yourself, need to watch your tongue and grow up. You're acting like the Evil Queen herself. You don't have a care in the Kingdoms for anyone." she said to her describing what she saw for the past few hours that they been with each other.

Lauren rolled her eyes.

"Oh you're being ridiculous. Virginia Lewis, yes I know." Lauren closed her eyes. Virginia was the one person in the world she admired. "That doesn't mean she didn't have five minutes to shoot them all."

Lauren looked a moment.

"Unlike you, I don't pretend to have any morals, or a heart. Watch my tongue and grow up? What about you?! All you do is sit there and preach. That cold, judgmental look. Get the hell away from me. You wanna know more about me? I'm a runaway, running away from a dumb, lonely life. Evil queen herself? Hah. Get out of my face." Lauren said, pushing Kayley aside.

"Christine killed King Wendell's parents. Virginia would never be like her mother. She has a good mind on her shoulders." Kayley tried to say more, but couldn't come up with anything more to say. She knew more about the true reason of the King and Queen's deaths than anyone else in the Kingdom would know about. Kayley held herself to a point where anyone could see she was meant for something greater than a simple life as a daughter, who hated her father.

"I don't PRETEND. I mean what I say. Preach? I'm only telling you. I'm not a preacher on anything I mean what I say. " she replied keeping her cool during this stupid argument. "I'm sorry about that. I guess everyone needs to get away sometime." Kayley said when Lauren talked about being a run away. She continued to follow Lauren to let her know what she was saying wasn't mean, but friendly advise.
