It was rather early in the morning just as the sun was peeping through the drawn curtains of Cinderella's Castle. The hallways stood vacate without a noise or some much as a soft murmur of guests' voices coming from behind locked doors. A door opened near the middle of the hallway sending light into the small area of the hallway. A young figure closed the door softly behind her and creped down pass the doors where she knew that guests were sleeping in. Apporching the grand staircase she looked both ways before descending onto the main floor of the castle. Her shoes made a clanking sound once they sat foot onto the highly polished marble floors. The flaming red hair moved behind her as two green eyes eyed the hallway above for a moment then parted towards another hallway with two largely decorated white doors at the end of the red carpet.

Danielle Nevaeh was a newly crowned Princess by her outstanding achievement of helping the subjects of the 1st Kingdom. Most of the Court welcomed her with others didn't, but she didn't let it get to her. She learn to deal with them on her own while she was at her Grandmother's home in Glassyton in the Northeastern part the the Kingdom. Danielle wasn't sure about being a princess, would do anything at the moment and she hadn't any good tips from anyone lately so she to stick it out for herself and try to watch and see how other Princesses do. Every time she practice on her own she failed at it. So only time would tell when she got the hang of the Princess subject.

Opening the doors she entered the Grand Ballroom seeing so things for the Century Ball later this month. She was walked into the center of the ballroom knowing that everyone was still asleep and wouldn't be up for another hour or so. Danielle pretended to be dancing with someone in order to get a hang of a historical dance, but she kept tripping over herself. It took her a few tries until she got it right, but hearing a noise of somewhere made her stop. Danielle looked around and found the nearest hiding place behind the curtain. As she ran over she tripped over her skirt sending her and other objects she couldn't identify into the floor with a loud bang that brought down the curtain on top of her. Danielle tried to get free, but remain still as the noise of footsteps grew closer. "Help." she whispered not knowing why she had become a chicken all of a sudden. Her green eyes raked over to the doors hoping would come and help her soon. She always hated becoming a damsel in distress, but trying to untangle herself was another thing.

Barron was visiting Cinderella's castle from his own quaint castle and land that ran the length of the boarder shared by the 1st and 3rd Kingdoms. He had it a little more rough than many of the 1st Kingdomers for that cause - luckily for him the trolls had taken more of an interest in the 2nd Kingdom and it's land of rugged amazonian like women. For that he was thankful, for his own subjects - however he wished no ill will on Gretel. Even still it was with a sigh of relief that he accepted the peace they'd had as of late.

The 1st Kingdom was unlike any others in the lands. There was a 'high court' in which Cinderella ruled from on high across the entire kingdom. However, with their love of romance and need for princes to woo damsels long ago the land was divided and provinces were handed out to reigning nobles allowed to bare the title King or Queen or any other that they choose in their own lands. As long as they all answered to the high court and Cinderella herself it didn't matter how many lower nobles existed in the lands.

As of then there were 7 smaller courts that all swore fealty to Cinderella. Barron's court was one of those courts. He was the duke of the largest reigning segment of the 1st kingdom's provinces. The complications went well beyond that in his own court and that's what found him at CInderella's castle on that very day. He was walking with Count Valdimir when the cry for help rang out. Barron hesitated, figuring the Count would be offended if he jumped into aid one of the court's ladies.

However, as the count made no effort to assist and looked a little peaky that she was wrapped up in the curtains to begin with if not a little embarrassed that she was. Barron on the other hand had no intention of standing idly by while she writhed in the curtains. He stepped forward and offered slowly. "Don't move, it will only tangle you further."

He knelt next to her in his crisp pants and proper tunic. After looking over the mess of material he figured how she was tied up. "Here you're going to have to give me your hand ma'am." He said sticking his own our while he fiddled with yards of fabric beneath her. After much toil and fidgeting with it as not to compromise her pride or decency Barron extracted her. "Well hello there - I was beginning to think I'd imagined that someone actually existed in the folds." He lifted her hand and placed a light kiss on the back of it. "Duke Brendenton."

Danielle tried to untangle herself so no one could question her why she was doing here during the preparations for the Century Ball that Cinderella would be holding this coming month. She would have to think of something and fast of course then again she couldn't lie to anyone it wasn't in her to lie to anyone. Just as she thought of something she heard the ballrooms doors open and fear stuck her as if her grandmother was going to scold her once more. Danielle prayed it wasn't the upper Ladies, who looked down on her with disprovable, but they would soon find out that she really did earn this position out of luck.

Hearing a male's voice made her look up. It wasn't someone that she recognized or met while she was in the court herself. She backed off while he helped free her ankle that she caught in the rope. Why was she so clumsy lately? Was the nerves or the intense atmosphere? It was one of the two that somethings she wished to go home to her palace near the southern point of the 1st Kingdom. "I'm sorry. I don't know what got into me." she said apologizing for what she did just recently in knocking things about.

"Sure." Danielle replied with a smile taking his outsterch hand,"I never intended to become a damsel in distress. I'm usually a bit more careful than this." She got a look at the stranger once he uncovered her from the heavy drapes. He was a year older than herself and a bit more caring to help her out, but then again it was the 1st Kingdom. She had to get used to this Court, "Princess Danielle, a newly crowned princess of the 1st Kingdom and Whitebrooke." she said with a bit more confedience in herself then a few minutes ago. "It's a pleasure of you Duke Brendenton for helping me. I'm sorry if I took you out of some important matter."

Barron had heard about her. Word in all the courts spread like wildfire; even between kingdoms. Courtier gossip couldn't be missed...even if you wanted to. He had been told by someone that Gretel the Great had been spotted at a ball of her own dancing with the Elf Duke; that King Wendell had traveled to the same party and that Hood was livid about the entire thing as she was supposed to be allied with Wendell. The intrigues of the court did not go unmissed by him, though he often wished they could. He had no need to even concern himself with the gossip and intrigues - he only wanted to submerge himself in the political situations. Certainly image was a portion of that, but not nearly as heavily considered as the swooning girls of his own castle did.

With that said it was no secret that this girl had somehow risen through the ranks of the court in the blink of an eye and it had all the girls of his own court green with envy. He didn't know the circumstances around her ascension, but he figured Cinderella of all queens knew what she was doing. After all, if they couldn't trust her judgment who could they trust in the land?

"Nothing that can't wait a few minutes or hours if that's the case. Never fear - no one was witness to it save the count and myself; I think your secret is safe with us. Though tell me, how does one find themselves deep in battle with the drapery?" He offered his arm to her. "In fact my secret is that I'm waiting for council with the upper court - Prince Aiden agreed to see me, though a time was not promised. So for now I have time to spare. Perhaps you would be so kind as to entertain me in the interim princess?" He cocked his head to the side and arched a single eyebrow at her.

Danielle looked at him for a moment as if she didn't understand the fancy language that these people speak. She needed to pay closer attention to what every word meant. "Difficult. I never would guess I'd become a Princess, a lady maybe. I had to trust myself to be who I needed to be since most people disagree on what actions Cinderella did in order to place me on higher terms. I guess as many people would say is that fate put me here and I haven't doubted yet, but this whole Princess routine is new and difficult to understand since I came from a different Nobility background." She tried to make things sound clear to what she was trying to say to him as she got up to take his arm or would be judge badly by her actions.

She knew that many didn't know the real reason behind Cinderella's actions for placing her as a Princess and not a Lady to the People. Danielle somehow that everyone would come to know on why she risen through the ranks so fast, but it fate that lead her to this position and nobody can't mess with fate right? Danielle looked at him when he spoken of entertainment. "I'm sorry, but I can't entertain anyone since I'm in the beginning stages of being a Princess." she replied back with a honest gaze that would make anyone believe that she was indeed telling the truth.

"Can you tell me about the Royal ways and the Court so I can better prepared?"she asked with a smile. She remembered her crowing party that sent anyone home within a hour since she couldn't behave or act like other girls. She tried to pretend to be listening in the Court meetings, but always zoned out of it near the middle. Danielle hoped that she could get the hang of this Princess business soon and fast before something bad happens.

"Anyone who would question Queen Cinderella is a fool." Barron told her simply. He wasn't going to be the one to question the queen. "She has seen more than her share of toil and knows what is best for a land. With that said I will have to trust in your ability as princess; just as she has. She would not steer the nation wrong."

He looked down at her with a sympathetic expression, but still wore a kindly smile. "Here, start here." He said reaching out and taking her hand lightly and looping it through his. He patted her fingertips that were latched onto his arm. "When offered always take the arm of a man in the court. Even if he smells, is cross eyed, has two heads or annoys you to no end." He looked forward and took a few steps to see if she fell in line with him. "Though I hope I'm not one of those." He peeked down at her, trying to lighten the mood he added briskly. "I tried to hide the third eye - if you can't see it we won't even consider it. I was kidding." He told her quickly as to not intimidate her or scare her anymore than necessary.

"Don't say no to entertaining anyone in the castle." He smiled at her and gave a soft chuckle. "I'm not offended, but many would have been. All you have to do is talk to them for entertainment. It can be about the color of the sky on that day or the sell of the lilac field that grows behind your childhood home; anything to keep your guests from being bored."

He took a few more steps slowly, letting her get accustom to moving with him. "Tell me Princess, you say your heritage is of different nobility - pray tell, what do you mean by that? What sort of nobility runs in your bloodline?"

Danielle looked offended,"I never said such a thing nor would I doubt my Queen on anything." She looked at him defeating herself and her honor," That might take a while, but I thank you for you words of kindness. I'm greatly honor by your belief in me." She remembered a princess somewhere saying words like this and thoguht she could try it and make sure it work for her or not.

She didn't bother looking at him for a few minutes cursing herself inside for asking such a dumb question, but at least he understood what she was going through at the moment. Danielle followed his instructions and took his arm during the small lesson,"I'll make sure I don't notice." she said ending with a laugh. "No, you not so I wouldn't be worried if I were you Duke Brendenton." she said with a small laugh at the end hearing the rest of his talk she laughed," I'm not offended by your jokes."

Danielle's smile faded once more into a serious one,"Oh, I'm sorry. It's just like that I'm not usually the one trying to entertain anyone, but the one who's being entertained. I supposed I should try my best in entertaining someone soon." she replied with a nod. Hearing his next question she looked at him for a moment,"My parents were the usual Noble family, but they believe instead of being brought up the usual way. They believe in by being out among the people that it would make a difference in the future. So I basically was taught how to be responsible and to have more confedience in myself. I guess it worked out. My mother is from here with a heritage of royal blood from my great grandmother Princess Ariel. My father was from the 4th Kingdom, but was a knight. So I have both Kingdoms influences in me. "

"Whoa now." Barron said in a hasty tone. Overall the man was rather staunch. He took his job and position seriously - sometimes too seriously. It was only for her genuine hesitancy that he let any of it drop; it was also her words that reminded him how he should behave properly. "You're quick to jump to the defense, though it give you conviction it also allows you to come to the wrong conclusions. I wasn't attacking your belief in her majesty - I was rather addressing those who would question your appointment as it's a direct reflection of her decisions."

He managed another glance at her. "Though that conviction is admirable it'll make you come off coarse in this court. Should you live in the 2nd Kingdom it would be required, I think King Wendell would even tolerate it - but here women are often taken for granted. I don't want you to be surprised when you are ill-received for your strength in your belief structure. I would say never let it go but it is a narrow two sided sword - you might find yourself cut by the thin blade you walk." He told her honestly. Barron knew the games of the court. It could be cut throat, and this girl could be made bitter by it - thus far it seemed as if she'd evaded that.

"You're entertaining now my lady. Don't fear me - I'm the least of your worries in this establishment." He arched an eyebrow. "I am easily entertained, fear those that envy you. They have the power to hurt you the most. You'll need all the strength you have, perhaps a good set of claws and a dagger, to defend against them." He stopped her in their walk just to see if she was still following his lead and not simply walking at this point. He drew her back around to face him. "I have heard of her - your great grandmother." He told her. "Now it's your turn. Have you a question for me?" He asked giving her the option, perhaps testing her, to see how she managed her end of the conversation as well as her station in the court.

"Well, it's better to up to defense before someone tries to attack you. Besides as I said before I'm different then from everyone else." Danielle said in a more displeasing tone than the last. There was something about this Duke that she didn't quite believe in nor did she want to find out. She didn't him just pretended to act as if she was interested. Danielle hated when people talked to her like that in a rude manner just maybe was was more like her father than her mother. She smiled as she turned her attention back on the Duke.

Danielle stopped when she heard his next comment,"What I have learn outside of these walls is how to be stronger and believe in one's self. I know it and I'm sure if I everyone in the court endured what I went through then I'm sure they would take it for granted. I might as well leave this place for a bit in order to figure this new life out. You may as well take stroll through the streets to see what I mean." she said letting go of his arm. She couldn't take it anymore not around even a Duke as of this moment she wished that the Queen herself was awake.

When he spun her around to face him she felt like she was back at her grandmother's house about to get threated."I have the strength and I every cautious of what I now and will do." she said looking him straight in the eye for a moment before pulling her arm away,"I must now attend to some business and it was a pleasure talking to you." Danielle said calmly backing away and walking out to the ballroom leaving the man bewildered inside of her words. She traveled up the stairs to her guest room not really wanting to stay here anymore. As she entered she spotted a chambermaid,"Pack a few of my things. I'm leaving this evening." she said walking over to the window setting down in a chair with her tiara in her hands trying to focus on what to do next.

Count Valdimir had actually been the one to take off after her first and Barron only followed in his wake. He had thought to just let her run off, though when the count seemed to not be allowing it Barron reconsidered. This girl definitely needed help, if she wouldn't aceept his, someone if she was going to be a royal. He hadn't meant to offend her and consider his words a compliment. He wondered absently why the count thought it necessary to chase her and thought perhaps an alliance would fall because of her behavior - or perhaps it been his. Either way Barron was hours away from being crowned king of his provience, his business had brought him there for that as his own liege had passed away a fort night prior.

"Princess!" The count knocked hastily on her door, the haste in his tone matched the knock on the door. "Princess."

"Stop." Barron reached out and took the man's arm so it couldn't knock on the door again.

So the count hissed out quickly and in an undertone. "Princess come out here this instant and apologize to the king."

"Stop." Barron said again. He stepped forward and leaned close to the closed door. "I didn't mean to offend you." He said simply. "And I have walked the streets, trust me - I know what lies beyond these walls; however you must keep in mind now princess that you are within the walls. You must dance between both worlds if you are to be good at what you do. Great even. And you have much to learn. I have the patience to teach you - even with the dashing off after asking for my advice; of which I was most willing to give. I meant you no disrespect or harm; I'm simply trying to illustrate what you'll have to approach in this world. You have much to learn and I think your first larger lesson should be to mind who you offend and consider who you run from. Most wouldn't follow - they would simply declare war."

He glanced back at the count who was still looking slightly mortified at her running away. "She doesn't have to come out and she doesn't have to respond; though should she choose to I will not turn her away. I consider this an object lesson dear Valdimir."

He glanced back at the door with a grin. "And one final thing, never let it show on your face what you feel - it's a dead give away. Please know I hold you in the highest regard."

Danielle had long since vacated her set at the windowsill and dismiss the order from the chambermaid before she flopped down on the bed taking out her locket with the pictures of her parents looking down at her. She placed the locket around her neck that she normally didn't wear outside of her room. Danielle stared up at the baby blue ceiling trying to calm down and she was just about to dose off when a terrible rap at the door caused her to sit bolt right up on her bed staring at the door. Thank the lord she locked herself inside and not to be disturbed. Hearing the harsh words of the man, who was traveling with not the Duke, but a Prince? She got up knowing the reason why is because she was afraid to trust in anyone and she often sought comfort by talking to the pictures of her beloved parents that where long since gone.

Danielle stopped short of the door hearing the Prince's words as a hand was placed on the key. She wanted to say something back, but couldn't find the right words to say. She listen knowing somehow that he was right and wanted to apologize for her "run off" act. Danielle was different inside these walls and usually went and talked to the Queen often, but today she couldn't or a Lady of the court would be barking at her for being to soft. Danielle turned the key to the door to open it, but she press a ear to the door hearing the words that he spoke to the Count.

Danielle didn't need to hear the rest, "Wait!!" she yelled opening the door trying to catch them as they went off,"I'm sorry your highness. I had a moment of weakness." she said fiddling with the long golden chain the held the heart shaped locket. Danielle hoped that he heard her,"I want your help and I'm willing to learn. Please forgive me of my actions towards you recently. I didn't mean to do such a thing."

Barron paused. He was near to the end of the corridor. He turned back taking in her appearance there seeing the chain in her hand he nodded to Cinderella's count and moved back toward her. "I'm no highness, not yet." He told her slowly. "Soon enough, the count is right, I will be king - but only because my king passed away. He appointed me duke five seasons about because he had no son or daughter of his own. As duke I'm the first in line for his crown. His majesty wanted it that way. I would not betray his memory by denying his province the king he wanted in his absence."

He gave her a little tip of his head. "I haven't an understanding why. I'm glad to help you learn," he told her taking another step closer. He paused giving them a few feet distance between them. "Forgiven and forgotten."

He almost smiled, a little smirk tugged at the corners of his mouth. "You're permitted to be feisty and have moments of weakness - but never show anyone else." He offered his hand to her again. "I caught that one though - I think a blind man would have even seen it. Here." He told her kindly, all of his words were meant in genuine honesty - he was serious about the way the court could chew her up and spit her out if she'd let it. The behavior he'd already seen would do that - the courtiers would be taking so had and fast it would make one's head spin. Fortunately for her he and the count were the only to have witnessed it. Barron doubted the count would utter a word. "Your best and strongest point is your self image; and you can display it however you like. You might be the strongest and boldest woman born since Snow White or Cinderella herself, but you have to tell everyone else that. And the best way to tell them is not to say it, but to show them." He nodded.

"We'll show them your majesty, oh will we ever show these courtiers and barons. If you have the will you say to do to learn, and I believe you do, it will be you who earns your respect among them coupled with the title you've already been given they'll have no choice but to look up to you. You've already lived with the people or at least know them, I doubt it will be hard to win their hearts. Now you just have to win the courts." At these words he did let a smile slip on to his face. "You're going to have to trust me though. Can you do that Princess Danielle, can you trust me?"

Danielle looked at him as he walked towards her and stopped fiddling with the chain at was around her neck. Hearing about the King's deaths made Danielle a little bit out of focus as she remember about getting told that her parents were died when she was little. "I'm terribly sorry for yours and the province's lost. My prayers and thoughts go out to them." she said looking back at him feeling sorry for the people's lost wherever this province was. "I wouldn't deny a memory of someone cause it usually makes us stronger when we do things that are to their memory.

She continued to watch him apporch her taking a few steps so there was a distance between them. "Thank you for your offer." she said with a smile on her face looking at her locket to him,"Agreed." Danielle listen in onto his words,"I can't help it. I could never control my emotions. It just happens without warning." she replied taking his hand in return. She knew that she did was wrong and by what he saw is that she needed help. She couldn't blame him for wanting to help her and she suddenly felt embrassed because of it. She often wish that she could control her emotions, but she never could since she was little. When he mention that she might be the blondest and strongest women since her role model Snow White and Cinderella. She felt herself stand a little taller,"I try and they just ignore it. I can't never be like Snow White. I admire her greatly since I first heard of her tale as a child."

"I do hope so cause I hate being pushed away from something that I earn. I do want to learn and earn their and other royals respect. I lived and worked among them in my providence and the village outside. They honor me with great respect since now I can help them in this new position. I'm ready to win the courts respect." She replied with more confidence then she usually did. "If your not lying to me or a spy for their eyes. Then yes I will trust you."

Barron laughed. "My dear I will tell you now I'm no spy. I haven't the energy or the time for such things. However, if I were a spy - I still insist that I'm not - I wouldn't be a very good one if I told you. No princess, I am a soon to be king and nothing more. Come with me. I agree, memories and events are what make us who we are. They give us our conviction. They can make us stronger, yes; though they can make us weaker too." He said with a small nod.

"When I was a child my parents too were killed. So I understand your plight. I was lucky enough to be taken under the wing of a kind man - at the time I didn't see him as a king. It was through him that I learned - not to be royal - but to be noble by nature. A good person. He wasn't a king to me, he was a mentor and a man." Barron told her. "Though it was his influence that has made me who I am, and not simply because I get to hold a title, a crown and land."

He glanced down at her. "Those too are things you have to remember. I can tell you haven't forgotten them. However, when you're out there and all the eyes are on you - and trust me, they will be - you must hold true to yourself. Otherwise you might loose Danielle behind the title just to defend against these people. Most of them are pretentious and just plain silly. Take nothing they say to heart." He warned her.

"Do you dance?" He asked off-handedly. “If not we’ll have to get to work on that. Everyone will expect you to dance. Forgive me if I’m putting an excessive amount on your shoulders – I assure you we can go through each of it piece by piece when the time comes.”

"Well, that's good then that your not a spy, but I congratulate you on becoming king of your providence."Danielle said with a smile as she closed her door and walked with the upcoming king. "How can make us weaker? My mother always said that they made use stronger." she asked really not getting why that memories made everyone weak. Her mother would never had lie to her and she knew that. Danielle was just curious on why that memories would make people weak? It was odd enough to say.

Danielle stopped and looked over at him,"How did you know my parents where dead? I didn't tell you." she asked still looking at him with a questionable gaze. She never even mention to him or anyone that her parents were dead and how did he know that? Maybe he heard it from the Queen herself since she knew her father and mother. "They're not silly or pretentious. They're lives are short and hard that's why they may look like that." she said calmly trying to defend the people. She spent many years helping and defending them before she ever became a princess.

"Yes, I do. Just not the historical dances like they do here." She said remembering what she had been doing just before she got tangled up. "You're not putting an big amount on my shoulders."

"For the sake of your kingdom, I accept the apology...but a word to the wise, Marquis. I am not an enemy you would ever wish to have--it would do you well to remember it." - Wendell White
