Loki

Loki's trembiling walk had become a ferocious run.Why did these thigs have to happen?! Her back burned as she ran, sending more tears, and more blood down Loki's fur. She ran past her den and began to dig in between some bushes. She dug, and dug, and dug. Blood began to ooze down her front legs. Loki stopped, panting. She had lost alot of blood. Still... She had to do at least one thing right.

The pup was in a very deep hole, she decided to let Shadowfire finish the burial, of he wanted, and say goodbye to his daughter. Loki staggered back to her den. Blood dripped from her paws. The collision must have hit some bad blood vessles... That was Loki's fault too. Loki collapsed infront of her den. Her legs refused to carry her anymore. She heaved in air and looked wearily into the sky. "Gods, where are you?"

June, Summer 18

Jester Pied – "When beggars die, there are no comets seen." –Julius Caesar
Shadowfire – “Fearless to the strong, humble to the weak” –Arthur & George

Jester was on the prowl again. He’d smelled several alphaish scents and followed them to Tall Fortress. He’d popped in long enough to see who was there and overhear that the word of the day was Fire Clan. Useful information. Jester didn’t really know why he wanted to know, but he did. He liked to know what was going on. One day the tidbits might be useful. After he’d looked in on the alpha meeting, Jester crept on again.

He remembered that Shadowfire had made his den in Tall Fortress. He decided to stop by on his way out to see how things were going. He still viewed the Rogues’ Guild as a half-cocked fantasy that would never work out, but the pack members were on his mind more and more. He didn’t need an adopted family. But as the only one in the Guild with any sense, he supposed it was his duty to look after them.

Shadowfire followed Loki back to the den more slowly so he wouldn’t dislodge Livia riding on his back. Nothing drew him to move faster, anyway. His paws were heavy, and his mind seemed numb. He wasn’t in a hurry to bury Powderstripe. She was already dead, so what was the use? Shadowfire looked off between the columnar trees, thinking he should’ve never come here. His heart suddenly ached for his dog pack, his home pack. He wanted very badly to go back where he’d come from and forget any of this had ever happened.

He came up to the den. He saw Loki digging and bleeding everywhere. His eyes widened. He crouched down so Livia could get off. “Girls, go in the den,” he ordered quietly. His tone was no-nonsense. Now that they’d seen death, he expected them to obey without question. He stood in front of the den’s entrance so they couldn’t see Loki bleeding to death. He was at a loss for what to do.

The scent of blood and other wolves banished Jester’s self-important thoughts. His concern for Shadowfire flared up suddenly, very real. He broke into a run. He ran up while Shadowfire was standing there, staring at Loki. Jester took in the scene, the wound on Loki’s back. He barked in surprise. “Gods! Shadowfire, what happened?”

Shadowfire sounded distant, as though his mind was far away. “Her sister kidnapped our pups. We followed her, and I tried to kill her, and Loki jumped in the way…I hurt her…pretty badly.”

Loki collapsed. Jester stared for a second. Then he nipped at Shadowfire’s back paw. The big Arctic snarled and spun toward him. Jester’s heart jumped into his mouth at the sight of a wolf that size poised to attack. Shadowfire’s orange eyes were half mad. But Jester stood firm. “Don’t just stand there! Go get some cobwebs and try to stop the bleeding! I’ll be right back.”

Shadowfire came back to himself at once. “Yes.” As Jester ran into the trees, he pulled down the nearest spider webs. He went over to Loki and tried to pack them into the wound on her back. It was so large that the little mat of cobwebs did hardly anything. Jester, help me…

Jester uprooted as many stalks of yarrow as he could carry. He thought about using his gift on Loki, but he had traveled a long way and he was tired. Maybe he could heal her enough to stop the bleeding, but then he wouldn’t have the strength to gather herbs. He ran back to Shadowfire’s den with the yarrow. He crouched beside Loki. He stripped the leaves off the stalk, crushed them, packed them into the dripping wound, and prayed the bleeding would stop.

Livia
Loki

Livia limped to the den. Was everything alright? She crawled into a shaky little ball in the corner of the den. She prayed to the gods and wished that everything got better. She was still scared, but the familiar scents of Mom, Dad, Llundiah, and Powderstripe soon fell her asleep.

Loki heard Jester and Shadowfire approach. She just needed a little rest, and some cleaning up. She wasn't going to die, not today. "I-it's my fault, Jester... For everything. Remember what I told you and Velocity. I knew they were coming, I should have never brought you guys into this......." Her eyes focused on Shadowfire,"Shadow..fire...I deserve this, I put you all in danger, and killed Powderstripe...This is just what I have to pay."

The bleeding slowed to a mere trickle. Loki sighed and rested her head on the ground. This kind of reminded her of when Victoria attacked her... She was almost dead then...This was nothing."Yuo remembe how we met...I was nearly dead, but I pulled through...I think.. I think I'm stronger now...I can pull through this too..." Her eyes sat dazed on the horizon. She could feel that everyone was still there, so she spoke to them. It let them atleast know they weren't losing her. Her body seemed weaker than ever now. She probably needed food, water, and some rest. Her tears had stopped for the time being, but her heart still ached. Loki made sure to act like her back didn't hurt. She didn't want anyone to worry about her anymore, but they did anyway.

Jester Pied – "When beggars die, there are no comets seen." –Julius Caesar
Shadowfire – “Fearless to the strong, humble to the weak” –Arthur & George

Jester remembered. A stab of guilt made him flinch. She had told him and Velocity that Victoria would be coming after him, and he had brushed it off. He’d thought she was just overreacting, hadn’t taken her seriously. He sucked in a breath. “No, Loki. It’s no one’s fault, except Victoria’s. She did this. She made her choice. No one could’ve predicted this.” Jester looked at Shadowfire for help. He was the one who should be comforting her. He was her mate, after all. Jester would say good things about Sirya no matter what she’d done. Of course, Sirya was strong and self-confident, and didn’t need his help.

Shadowfire said nothing for a minute. His small measure of self-control held him back. Anything that came out of his mouth at this moment wouldn’t be helpful. He found that he couldn’t reassure Loki, because he felt that what she said was, at least partly, true. Of course he didn’t blame Victoria’s actions on her, but he couldn’t say that Powderstripe’s death wasn’t her fault. The image of Loki diving between him and Victoria’s throat kept replaying through his mind. If she hadn’t done it, Shadowfire was sure Powderstripe wouldn’t have died.

Loki didn’t seem to notice that he was silent, though. When she went on murmuring, it stirred Shadowfire’s protective instincts. He bent quickly to nuzzle her cheek. “Of course you’ll pull through! It’s not that bad, and I’m still here, aren’t I? It’ll be just like last time, just the two of us. With Livia and Lu, I mean.”

Jester hadn’t missed any of what was happening. He was glaring at Shadowfire. He said, “You’re stupid.”

Shadowfire suddenly had a target for his pent-up emotions. He twisted his head and snapped at Jester. He wasn’t going to bite him…not really. Anyway, by the time his teeth closed, Jester wasn’t there anymore. The calico’s leap landed him several feet away, ears flat, hackles raised. “What’s wrong with you? If you don’t want me here, fine! I’ll leave!”

“Fine! Leave!” Shadowfire snarled. Jester twitched back again at the tone of his voice. His cunning eyes flitted from Shadow to Loki. He turned around and disappeared into the forest shadows.

Instantly, Shadowfire felt uneasy. He wished he hadn’t done that. Loki needed a healer. But it wasn’t in his nature to call Jester back. He set his teeth. He had handled things on his own last time, when Victoria attacked her. He could handle this too. It didn’t matter that this was a much worse wound. Besides, the bleeding had mostly stopped. Shadowfire crouched beside Loki. “Everything will be alright. Come on, let me help you into the den, and then I’ll find some food. It’s you and me again, right?”

His uneasiness remained.

Loki felt uneasy about Shadowfire. The held in emotions, were basically fuming from Shadowfire. She wished he could just take his anger out on her like Victoria had. Loki was a quick healer, so it wouldn't be a problem right? She put up with it before, daily beatings. It was her fault after all, he could at least be mad at her. Not that she really wanted that...

"Yeah....just you and...me.....?" Her sluggish mind was keeping her from thinking of her pups, though she knew she was forgeting someone.

Loki struggled to turn over to her feet. Shadowfire was to lead her to the den. It was a good thing, because Loki's mind was practically turning to mush. She barley saw anything, it was a bunch of warped colors and lights. She knew her sences though, so that would take her to her......den... "Oh no!" Loki's words were in the form of a gasp."Our pups! They shouldn't see me like this!" Another gaspy scentence. What would they think? Loki's mind turned from mush to jellow as simple details of her life filled out. Pups, a mate, a den, a pack! Loki's dull eyes widened, she couldn't bathe, nor stay out here, nor go into the den! Aghh!

Loki's brain rushed with everything. Happieness for her pups to sadness for the situation. She closed her eyes tight and flattened her ears. The Victoria event replayed in her head, but as if for the first time in years. "No..."

Shadowfire – “Fearless to the strong, humble to the weak” –Arthur & George

When Loki balked, Shadowfire pressed his shoulder against hers. He used his larger body to try to steer her into the den. He pushed her gently. What the pups really didn't need was for their mother to die on them. “Please, Loki. The pups have already seen you. You’ve got to rest.” Shadowfire would take care of it, like he always did. He’d take care of everything. Just go in, Loki. Don’t make this any harder for all of us. Shadowfire just wanted to get all of this over with. Would it ever really be over with? There was no going back, and maybe no going forward either.

There was one thing about healing that Shadowfire did know. He said, “Lie down, Loki. I’m coming right back.” Then he loped into the woods. He found the rattling poppy heads, broke some off, and carried them back to Loki. “Here, Loki. Chew these up. They’ll put you to sleep.” No pain, no thinking. If only Shadowfire could eat some himself.

(ooc: As soon as you post, I think that would be an okay stopping place...?)

-Llundiah Rasha-//
"Flowers grow out of darker moments, so go on and knock me down; I'll sprout right back up again..."

What to do, what to do! So much was going on around her, and Llundiah honestly had no idea what was happening. Papa had ordered her to go into the den, and Lu had obeyed without question, too afraid to even think about asking questions. He was mad, mamma was hurt, Livia was being very silent, and her sister was dead. What else could go wrong?

There was yelling outside, between papa and a wolf she didn't recognize at all. She creeped forward, despite what her papa had said, to get a better look at what was going on. They looked like they were about to get into a fight, before the colorful wolf ran off who knew where. Mamma was still hurt, lying on the ground mumbling about something, and Papa ran off, saying he would be right back.

Llundiah crept forward to her mother, kissing her on the cheek, gently nuzzling her. "Shhh... mamma it be otay..." she whispered, before quickly scampering back as her father came rushing back in, so she wouldn't get in trouble. Cuddling up to Livia, she watched as her papa offered mamma something, saying that it would make her go to sleep. That might be good... it had been a long day, and mamma was hurt really bad, maybe sleeping would make the wounds go away. All Lu knew was that she wanted this to be over, she just wanted to be a happy family...

(ooc: Sure, acticg dulusional is kinda tough.)

Loki let Shadowfire lead her to the den. She layed down and stared into the dark wall of the den. Everything had to be over now. All the bad things had to be. She cuddled her pups and waited for the promised return of her mate.

She heard him mumble about eating the seeds. Ok, sounds good enough... Loki ate the seeds and layed her head flat on the den floor. Her mind drifted farther from her body. Soon her eyes slowly closed as the confusion faded away. Things could only get better from here. That's all...
