Posted: Sun Jul 19, 2009 10:14 pm by Hamico Loki Loki searched for anywhere safe. The pain in her stomach increased. A storm was building in the distance. Was this going to be birth? Loki found a small cramped den. She tested it. Ugh, it was very small, but she could fit and with the storm she couldn't wait. Loki began to shear the fur on her rump for padding. Her stomach lurched and Loki whimpered. No got to finish the den! She had most of her rump fur in the den when she knew she couldn't wait any longer. She squeezed in and immediately began panting. Her legs where squished by her sides. Her body was shaking. Loki squeezed her eyes shut as the first pup came out. Loki looked at it...What now? Oh, clean it.... She began to lick the moist lump. It was black with a red splotchy marking on her face like her father's. She had a splotchy red tail too. The little thing murmured and squirmed about. Loki repositioned to where she was squatting diagonally, so there would be room for the pups ,and gently scooted it to her side to keep it warm. It suddenly grabbed a teat and began to feed hungerly. Loki, away from the whimpering yiped when this occurred. The next was born shortly after, black, with half of her body covered in red splotches. With the storm starting, Loki made sure both were plenty warm. The little furry bundles suckled and murmered. They were both beautiful. Little bundles of joy. But the pain wasn't over. Is seared on. This one was taking aa long time. Loki began to worry. Where was her last born? It needed to be out here with it's sisters. Loki's stomach turned and a little red pup with black spotted paws, back and tail layed there silently. It was still, not moving, not breathing. Loki began to clean the little lump of fur ferociously. Was it going to be like Velocity's? No. It would live. It had to! Loki licked and licked the small fur bundle, but no response came. Loki's eyes grew moist. No, her last daughter....It couldn't. Loki's tears boiled over as a great wave of pain flung it's self over her. She opened her eyes to a small red fae with black paws, back and tail nudging her."OH!! Little one, you've awaken!" She carefully pulled it to a teat away from her hungry sisters. Three small, adorable pups, what would the gods hold for them? Loki crouched uncomfertably as the small fur balls suckled their first. |

Shadowfire called around the neck of the large fawn he carried in his mouth. He had known she was almost due and he'd done his best to get there in time, and with dinner. But this wasn't the place he'd expected to find her. Why had she come all the way up here, instead of having the pups in Glacier Mountains with Velocity? He'd had to track her to Tall Forest. When he saw the den and heard her whimpering and groaning within, he was faintly horrified. He could've dug a much better one for her, but he hadn't expected that he'd have to. He'd thought she would stay with the others. He didn't say anything, just laid the fawn down and stood awkwardly outside the den. The girl was so strange sometimes. Shadowfire liked her, but becoming her mate had just sort of happened. When they'd bred, he'd worried the whole time that she wasn't ready for it. She'd had a near-death experience with Victoria, and he was so afraid of hurting her. He'd never really stopped to think that he was actually going to have pups with her. Maybe he'd been right to be worried. He peeked in and saw Loki trying to revive the third pup, and he felt a little ill. It was all his fault. He should've said no, in spite of her wanting pups this year... But the creature breathed again, and so did Shadowfire. He lowered his head tiredly. "Loki," he breathed. The den was too small for him to stick any more than his head in. He pushed the fawn closer to Loki so she could eat once the pups were finished. He stood and watched them with a mixture of happiness and terror. |

Posted: Mon Jul 20, 2009 6:24 pm by Hamico Loki Loki was exhausted. She was panting, as she saw Shadowfire come into the den."...Hey...Their all alive.....Sorry....I didn't know.....how I would handle.......giving birth.....I....didn't want to seem weak...I...didn't want the others....to see me if I was weak......but.....They're beautiful..." She nuged the one with the red splotchy leaf marking over to Shadowfire. She tiredly, but proudly showed him each one. "It was....hard, but.....i'm glad." She shifted in the small den. She took a small piece of meat and ate it slowly. She wasn't hungry, but she knew she needed strength. Suddenly she felt sort of cold. She shivered a little. The storm waas coming fast. She wanted Shadowfire to be right next to her, but with the small den.... Loki reache her head out to lick Shadowfire's nose."Thank you.......I know you had doubts.......but......thank you......I love you...." She stiffly crouched in the tiny den and shivered. The storm would be here soon. She wanted Shadowfire to be beside her and their pups. He was a daddy now....and.....she was a mother |

Posted: Tue Jul 21, 2009 12:03 am by thePenDragon Shadowfire – “Fearless to the strong, humble to the weak” –Arthur & George Shadowfire accepted her explanation for why she’d chosen to give birth clear out here. If she had failed, if they’d all been stillborn or she’d been to weak to deliver them, Shadowfire would’ve been ashamed too. Ashamed that he’d put her through that, when he’d been uneasy from the start. He almost felt ashamed right now, when things had turned out fine. He couldn’t say why. The pups were beautiful. A slow grin spread across his face as she showed them off to him. He nuzzled each one, three beautiful girls, nothing like them in all the Caelum. The red and the black looked very good together. One of them even had his lightning mark running up her face. “You didn’t have to be alone, Loki. No matter what happened, you didn’t have to…” Shadowfire hoped she understood what he meant. She shouldn’t have come up here by herself. Whatever she felt, all she’d had to do was ask. Her weakness was what had drawn them together… Ugh, that sounded all wrong. She brought out the best in him, he meant. The soft, non-temperamental side. He would’ve still loved her if she’d failed, wouldn’t he? “I love you too, Loki,” he said quietly. He lay down, blocking the den’s entrance with his big body for warmth and protection. He watched the clouds roll across the sky. |

Posted: Tue Jul 21, 2009 12:16 am by Hamico Loki Loki's panting had almost stopped now..."I know, but I never want you to see me like that, or anything close again...That one day....I was so scared....for Victoria....I'm ashamed of myself for always being the one who needs help, the one who always needs a crutch...I wanted to make sure that wouldn't happen again....I don't know....I don't want to be weak.....So I came here in case something happened.....like Velocity's pup......" She wanted Shadowfire to be proud of her. She wanted him to never ever see her acting weak ever again... "I will never show that side to our pups....never will they know what it's like to cower down in fear. Even if they do, it won't be from us..." She shook her head. Thunder roared."D-do you think.........um...we could.....make this den....larger before the storm......?" She was slightly dazed from the jorney down here, then the birthing. She wanted to streach out beside Shadowfire and sleep through the storm. |

Posted: Tue Jul 21, 2009 8:51 pm by thePenDragon Shadowfire – “Fearless to the strong, humble to the weak” –Arthur & George "What happened with Victoria was nothing to be ashamed of," Shadowfire protested. Just thinking of the red and yellow femme brought a rush of anger against her. "She's a cruel beast, and she would've done the same to anyone else if she'd gotten the chance." He lowered his voice. "If it wasn't for her, though, we wouldn't have met, and I'm very glad I met you." It had given Shadowfire a wonderful feeling to save her. That feeling of protection and caring for her had carried him to the point of having pups with her. It had been a good thing, he told himself firmly. He had no regrets–though it did sort of ruin his knight in shining armor routine if the damsels found out he was already taken. There was no reason to tell poor Loki that, though. He did care about her. She was so sweet and forgiving. He didn't want to upset her. He was just being stupid. "What are you talking about?" he said firmly. "Our daughters will be just as strong as their mother." And he kissed her. Oh dear, the den. "Ah well, if you and the pups scooch over there..." He waited for them to get situated before he tried to put his head and shoulders into the den–that was all that would fit. Grunting, Shadowfire dug awkwardly. He scooped out dirt from the sides and back of the den with his front paws until there was just barely enough room for him to get in. He managed to turn himself around so he was facing the entrance Though he probably would've been more comfortable outside getting wet. "Better?" he asked. He was quiet for a few minutes. "Loki, do you want me to teach you how to fight?" |

Posted: Wed Jul 22, 2009 1:13 pm by Hamico loki Loki's eyes narrowed the slightest bit when Shadowfire called Victoria a beast. Loki knew she shouldn't care, but she did. Loki smiled. She was glad they met too. He seemed very happy, but there was one glimpse of disappointment. Loki wondered about that. Shadowfire uncomfortably dug in the den. Loki would have moved the pups out of the den for a minute so he could dig it easier. "better?" Loki looked at how he was positioned. She was better this way, but he might not be..."You...can leave whenever... If your uncomfortable..." Shadowfire suggested teaching her how to fight."Really?! Would you?!" She was exited! She wanted to be able to protect her pups and help Shadowfire if he needed."That would be great!" She made sure she whispered, even though the pups couldn't quite hear yet. The storm had started now... It was soothing...Loki rested her head on Shadowfire's shoulders and drifted to sleep. |

He was embarrassed when Loki noticed. “I’m fine,” he murmured. She was always so selfless and gentle. She did what she could. How could he think about leaving her? He could put up with a little discomfort if she cared that much about him. Shadowfire was beginning to understand that heroism was about more than saving creatures. He smiled when she said she wanted to learn to fight. “I’ll teach you, then. As soon as the pups are weaned.” He did his best to relax as she put her head on his shoulder. Where else could he find something more important than this? He was proud of her. He put his head on top of hers, and the steady hiss of the rain helped him fall asleep. |
