Shadowfire

Shadowfire trotted through the desert, nose sniffing. It smelled like the dog kind he was used to, though wilder. Loose dogs on their own, not tamed. Shadowfire liked that. But there didn't seem to be very many of them here, or none at all. The desert was as quiet as the meadows of Asphodel, all the way to the mountains and the pale blue sky. It was the first country he'd wandered into now that he was on his own. Shadowfire shook himself. In November, there was a layer of frost over the dry ground and the cacti. But it was still almost too warm for him. He was panting under his thick, black Arctic winter coat. In spring it would be unbearable.

So he wouldn't stay long. Only the faint dog scent kept him there now. He wanted to know if there were others like him in this place, or if it was his alone. Shadowfire stopped in the middle of the dry, dormant brush and cacti. The strange golden mark on his face glinted in the weak November sun as he lifted his head, and sent a questioning howl over the still desert.

Howie

He was the lone king of Scarta. Howie still remained in the desert lands. His gold orbs peirced the light frost that kissed the ground and would soon to melt. This was a rare sight in Scarta but it happened occasionally. The place was dead like the scrub and the grassless ground. Howie might be the only one alive and still wondering through the lands. The tail-less dingo was a determined one, maybe one day his determination will be the death of him. He snorted at the thought, this strong brute wasn't going down any time soon. No one had seemed to go in or through this land. Maybe they were too scared; Scarta was known to be a fearsome pack in it's later times. Possibly that fear still lingered on even through the minds of the new generation. Howie kept his sandy body close to the dry terrain as he seen a white figure moving amongst the place. His ears perked foward as he watched him for a short moment, keeping himself quiet and not moving, using his fur to make it look like it was just nothing more then a sandy colored rock off in the distance.

Howie couldn't believe his eyes, It was a wolf! An artic wolf in his territory?! The king stood to his paws and began to follow him, keeping his distance for he didn't want to make himself seen. What the hell was an artic wolf doing in this part of the caelum?! He asked himself eyeing the new brute as he walked by. Out of all the places in the caelum, he chose to come to Scarta, did he have a death wish or something. Perking his ears to the howl, Howie let a light smirk rise up his maw and quickened his speed so that he could walk past the male turn around and then face him with his head held. "Greetings, wolf." He said pausing for a mometn as he looked towards him. "I am Howie, king of this very land you stand on, which is called Scarta. What is your businuess here?" He asked hoping to get a truthful answer to his question.

Shadowfire

Shadowfire heard the dog coming. He turned his head as the other canine walked halfway around him and stopped in front of him. Shadowfire had never seen a dog like this before. He had very short fur and no tail--was that normal? He reminded Shadowfire less of a dog than a coyote. He didn't like the smirk on his face. But the dog was smaller than the sled dogs who had raised Shadow, much smaller than an Arctic wolf if it came to a fight, and Shadowfire was willing to be friendly.

He shuffled sideways, half-circling the other too. He let his tongue hang out of his mouth in a friendly manner and wagged his tail a few times hesitantly. He moved closer so he could sniff as he'd learned to do from his adopted family. Shadowfire didn't know the customs of wild dogs and wolves. He only knew what he'd been taught, and if his manners weren't acceptable here he would probably take offense before he realized he was the odd one. He said, "No business. I was just wandering, and this was where I ended up. I can't stay long. It's too warm for me here. But my name is Shadowfire." He tilted his head curiously, and the gold mark on his face caught the sun. "Does anyone else live here?"

-=Cairo Ballantyne=-

Cairo had come across the arctic's tracks early that morning, and both the size of his paws and the scent of him intrigued her. This creature was much larger than any canine she'd ever encountered before...though she'd heard rumors aplenty regarding this great, furred giants, with manes like lions. Her larger ears swiveled round as she debated following the stranger's path...and curiosity won out, as always.

Her legs fell into a ground-eating lope, white plumed tail streaming out behind her...Her slender head ducking close to the earth now and again, adjusting her course accordingly. It was when she came across Howie's scent, overlapping that of the arctic brute, that she halted. Her interactions with the 'King' of Scarta had not exactly been...pleasant. Her hackles rose in a bristly ridge down her back, and she paced agitatedly across the pattern of tracks created by both brute's journeying paws. This was slightly more complicated than satisfying her curiosity regarding the stranger...

Voices filtered down to her suddenly from not far ahead. With a roll of her dappled shoulders, and a shake of her ruff to settle her hackles back into place, she trotted forward. She was fairly confident she could outrun Howie, if it came down to that...and really, all she wanted was a good eyeful of the strange brute, just to put a face to all the rumors she'd come across in her short life. Her maw split in a mischievous grin as she broke to the left, circling 'round to bring her ff to one side of the pair, screened by a tangled web of sage brush and spindly grasses.

Howie

The tailess dingo noticed the arctic's rather acquird way of greeting him and he took a few steps away from his to reasure that the white male was invading his space. He had seen a few dogs do this before but definately not to the highly ranked and it was definately not expect this reaction coming from a wolf. It and he was very... odd. Howie sighed when the male mentioned that he wasn't staying long, mostly no one was these days. "I wouldn't expect a brute like you to be able to handle the heat.." He accused with a light snort afterwards. The dingo didn't mean it in a rude way nor did he mean it in a nice way, but it all depended on how the arctic wolf had taken it. Everyone kept coming in and out of Scarta, weather or not it was a good thing or bad thing that they were left unknown it was still rather frustrating to see his home dying along with the plants that had hoplessly grew here.

So the males name was Shadowfire? Strange name for a wolf but he wasn't judging. "There was another, but I am not sure he is still here let alone alive" He replied, answering the males question. Howie spoke of his deputy, though he knew him to be much stronger then any average Scarta member there was still a chance that he might have died either because of heat, age, lonelyness, or in a fight. Who knew for sure. Howie scented someone within the air, a familiar scent. It was that female again, the one who was 'supposed' to be leaving. Why the hell is she still lingering around?! He thought to himself narrowing his eyes as he scanned the area, trying to find her, trying to find the source of the freshly smelt scent that he waved past his nose. She was hiding, somewhere over here. One move from the fea and he was sure to map her out. Howie looked back to the wolf "Tell me; how far have you traveled to get here?" He asked curiously.

Shadowfire

Shadowfire's ears flicked back. He couldn't tell if he was just stating a fact or if he'd meant that to be insulting. And then there was the way he backed up to avoid Shadowfire's friendly sniff. Coming from someone Howie's size who was a self-proclaimed king of a wasteland, Shadowfire was inclined to take offense. Why would he want to stay here anyway? There was nothing here. Everything was flat and dry and dead. It was a dead land, with a dead pack from the sound of it. If there were only two canines here, Howie's little kingdom wasn't going to last long. Shadowfire fluffed his black ruff in a faint challenge. "I could pick you up by the scruff of your neck and drag you into those mountains, and we'll see how well you like the weather there with your short fur, your highness," he retorted. "I traveled a very long way, and I'm crabby, and I'm not in the mood for any self-styled dog kings who think they're better than wolves."

If the dog or whatever he was acted the least bit interested in a fight, Shadowfire would be glad to make good on his threat. Maybe he wouldn't actually hurt the creature, but dragging him to the mountains and giving him a roll in a big pile of good 'ol snow sounded like fun. He was oblivious to their female onlooker. The prospect of a scrap had absorbed all his attention, and he wasn't thinking much about outside scents.

OOC= Hope ye don't mind if I join in, don't worry, I'll keep active, I need to with this guy

Diputado

The transaction from loyal hard worker to slacker who didn’t care was easy for the unwilling Diputado. But then again, in a pack like Scarta, it was difficult not to be a slacker considering there was absolutely nothing to do. The Deputy had decided to go speak to Howie as he had not spoken to anybody since that trespasser, and he could hardly remember the last time he spoke to the only other member. It did not take long to pick up the scent of the King, along with Trespasser and a stranger. Diputado reached hearing distance in time to hear Howie wonder if his deputy was even alive, but the wolf’s response annoyed him, and he forgot all about Trespasser being there. “Be glad its winter, wolf, otherwise the heat may have already killed you, if not, you’d be begging for food and water. Now I’d recommend you watch who you are talking to because I really need something to do, but I don’t want any violence.” Said the wolf-lookalike. Why did this stranger travel so far to Scarta anyway, it is not as if a wolf would ever be allowed in Scarta, especially an Arctic? This area of Caelum was much too hot for them, in fact, just the other day, Diputado had seen a fire in the desert, and he had been living in Scarta for years now and yet the heat still went to his head as he could have sworn the fire had the shape of an animal, a place like this does that to canines.

Howie

The tail-less dingo had awaited Shadowfire's response, he expected it to be a calm one. Since wolves were known to be the more noble and wise breed. Howie had begged to differ. Wolves were nothing more than their cousin's. He doesn't know who started the 'wolves are smarter' thing but whoever started that was a total lier and was seen as nothing more then that. "I could pick you up by the scruff of your neck and drag you into those mountains, and we'll see how well you like the weather there with your short fur, your highness," Howie took a step back and growled, his defensive hairs standing on his back as he stood in his defenses stance. "Wha- "I could pick you up by the scruff of your neck and drag you into those mountains, and we'll see how well you like the weather there with your short fur, your highness," he retorted. "I traveled a very long way, and I'm crabby, and I'm not in the mood for any self-styled dog kings who think they're better than wolves."

The golden brute snarled looking toward the arctic who dared to threaten him in his own lands. "What?! You dare threaten me?! You wouldn't be able to lay a claw on me even if you tired, you already look burnded out because of the heat, try to fight me and you'll probably drown in your own sweat" He muttered getting ready for a fight until he had seen Diputado come, standing by his side, once his deputy had gotten to say his fill Howie looked back to the wolf and narrowed his eyes in disgust. "Leave this place wolf! Before I beat you like your momma should of" Howie barked, threatening the male obviously as he eyed him, expecting him to simply turn around and leave but standing clear of any incoming attacks; his guard raised.

Shadowfire

Shadowfire bristled and laid his ears flat. He most certainly wasn’t “burned out!” It wasn’t that hot in mid-winter, even in the desert. “I can stand anything long enough to lick you, little king!” he snapped. “My momma taught me more than a runt like you will ever know!”

He was trying to decide whether he was insulted enough to strike the first blow when the other dog arrived. Shadowfire’s ears lifted again. Now here was a dog more like the kind he was used to. He reminded Shadowfire of his adopted sled dog family. He looked bored—and curious. There wasn’t much to break the monotony around here, Shadowfire noticed. The newcomer also spoke much more reasonably than the hairless, tailless dog king. Shadowfire moved a little closer to give him a sniff. “I wouldn’t think you would be comfortable here, either. Your fur is as thick as mine. What’s your name, friend? And what are you doing here?” He put the faintest stress on the last word, casting a look around the barren winter desert. Along with being rather empty of canine life, this place seemed like a one-way street. What would make an honorable dog stick around here, where a lost wolf was exciting enough to turn out the entire pack?
