The weak just talk.” ~Marisela Kedieo~ “They say that love is for the weak. If this is so then why is it that the strongest of wolves are those that are loving?” He wasn’t sure what to do anymore. Part of him wanted to fight for the Valley, and the other wanted him to simply give it up forever. The second would probably be better, he thought, because his memories of Aeon and their good times together were in the Valley. Being there would only bring him pain. Still, on the last day he had a chance to go and respond to the challenge Namchuri lingered, hoping that the gods would give him some sort of sign on whether or not to actually go respond to the challenge or not. ‘Aeon, my love… you told me that when you died to find another to be with, to cherish and hold. How can I? I miss you so much…” The male shook his head as he fought back the tears that threatened to overflow. In the clearing of Tall Fortress it was only him, so it didn’t matter if he cried. Or, so he thought. The sound of crunching snow brought Namchuri’s head up. A laugh, a deep, horrid laugh filled the air. He was up and facing this wolf in seconds. It was Keno, his worst fear, a wolf he had nightmares about at night. Her eyes shown with the purest of insanity-- her mind was barely her own. The white and dark blue brute’s eyes shown with caution as he stepped back, narrowing his eyes. Cautiously he put up his defenses, which seemed to draw the red femme’s attention all the more. Keno remembered faces and feelings now, not much else… And the feeling she felt for this face was hatred. That meant it had to die. A roar of hatred escaped the red beast’s mouth as it charged towards the smaller male, reddish-gold eyes flashing with the intent of murder. Blood, she wanted blood, needed blood, needed to see this wolf dying at her paws. She didn’t know why, didn’t care why, and couldn’t comprehend why anyway. Namchuri’s blue eyes flashed with fear for a quick moment before he gathered himself, leaping away to his right just as Keno charged where he just was. The middle of a clearing was certainly not the best place for him to be fighting a crazed wolfess, especially not one that was bigger than he was. He spun, facing her again before she even noticed she had missed her attack. A snarl escaped her maw now as she made ready for another attack, charging forward and then leaping, aiming to bring her paw down upon his head. Nam attempted to jump back but was too slow-- Keno’s paw crashed into his muzzle with surprising force that brought him to the ground. He saw stars in the blackness, could hear her snarling above him as he was aware of the electric fire of pain pulsating from his maw. Her breath, hot, was soon close to his neck. -- The scent of Keno had caught them all of guard. The three had stopped, looking at each other for a moment. Keno was to be dealt with-- she’d hurt them all and had to pay. A low growl came from Randy as he charged off, leading the way towards the red demon that they had all called “mother”. The brown, white, and black brute was also the first to emerge into the clearing. Like his mother his mind was slipping, but he could still tell the difference between friends and enemies, who to protect and why to protect them, and speak, even if that speak was rather emotionless. Seeing Namchuri, a familiar ally from Willow Valley, only brought more rage into the young brute’s heart. A snarl escaped his maw, a snarl that drew the red beast’s attention away from his fallen friend and to him. Kyte and Marisela weren’t too far behind. The first thing Mari noticed was her mother, then the felled brute at her paws. There was blood on the snow next to his muzzle-- that much she could tell from this distance. As she ran she looked towards Kyte and spoke. “I’ll take care of the injured brute. Get Keno a couple of times for me, okay?” Her eyes were focused on her mother now, who was starting to move towards Randy at a charge of her own. Kyte couldn’t believe this. Their mother… she was not their mother, she couldn’t be. This Keno… was a monster. His heart was heavy as he followed his brother, barely recognizing the words Marisela said to him. As Keno broke away from the other brute Mari broke away from his side and made a dash for the injured wolf. It was funny when one thought about it. Marisela knew about herbs and fighting but if it came down to helping an injured wolf or fighting she’d much rather help the injured first. However that didn’t mean she wouldn’t fight afterwards. The demon had been distracted from her victim. Another face, another feeling of hate, was recognized. Her crazed laughing filled the air as she charged the brute, a brute that was really her own son, not that she knew that anymore. The two wolves drew closer and closer to each other until… They collided. Neither had veered from their course which caused both to crash into each other. The smaller male instantly went for the area between his mother’s neck and shoulder on her right side, clamping down as the larger wolfess jaws found his left shoulder and did likewise. But unlike Randall, who just held on, the demon tore back, spilling his blood onto the snow. In a gasp of pain he let go of the flesh he had been holding on to, allowing the red beast to leap away from him. Her shining eyes flashed as if to say “come and get me if you dare” before she turned, running off into the trees. Surprisingly, Randy didn’t follow. Kyte arrived at his brother’s side just as Keno ran off, a surprised look on his face when he saw that Randy didn’t pursue her. Unsure, he didn’t either. “So err… what now?” He asked, looking at his brother. “We help Namchuri.” Namchuri? Kyte’s gaze traveled to the injured brute that Marisela was leaning over. Ah, him. As his brother began to walk, with a slight limp, over to his sister and friend Kyte followed. -- One moment Keno was there and the next he was gone. Slowly, as his vision came back Namchuri saw a fae running towards him, stopping and showering his face with snow. He got to his paws, shaking his head. “You’re lucky to be alive.” Marisela said, though she was really concerned. It appeared that the only wound was on this brute’s muzzle. She turned to see Keno running off into the trees and, blinking, she looked over to her brothers. Why didn’t they give chase? Well, whatever. Keno was getting old for one, and she was raving mad. She was bound to die sooner or later. “Yes, it appears so.” Namchuri said, also looking after Keno. “This is the second time I’ve nearly been killed… and this is also a sign from StarClan to me, I’m sure of it.” Marisela blinked, not really understanding what he meant by ‘a sign from StarClan’. Her eyes were slowly drawn however, to his neck. There was a patch of fur missing on either side of the throat, scars there… from fangs. ‘Who did that!? Shouldn’t he have died from a wound so close to the throat?’ Namchuri smiled, looking to the femme. “You’ve noticed my scar I see. Keno’s son, Yaoi Kedieo gave it to me when I fought him and his mate… You look as though you are one of Keno’s children as well.” Mari nodded. “Yes, I am. I am Marisela Kedieo. The orangish-gold brute is Kyte Kedieo and the brown and white brute is Randall Kedieo.” As she finished both of her brothers walked up beside her. “Good to see you again Randy.” The she wolf blinked. They knew each other? She looked from her brother to this strange brute to her brother again. “You see Randall used to be a Willow Valley member. He and his siblings were born around the same time me and my siblings were born. We grew up together. Ah, yes, I’m Namchuri Demitrius by the way.” Namchuri Demitrius… Randall, face lacking expression, spoke now. “Why are you not in the Valley yourself Nam?” Ah, the moment of truth. He couldn’t tell them the whole truth… so he tweaked it a bit. “I lost my mate to an incurable sickness, or so I assume. She disappeared... Our pups disappeared too. I was out here trying to find some peace of mind… I’ve abandoned the Valley I’m afraid. I was trying to decide on what Clan to join.” Abandoned the Valley he did. Namchuri had made up his mind. He wasn’t going back… and his challenger had given him all the excuse he needed. “Why not come back to ShadowClan with us? If your Randy’s friend you’re sure to be accepted.” Marisela turned to him. “Keno’s the alphas, remember!?” Kyte snorted at her comment. “I doubt she still is. She’s so crazed now that she can’t even give orders. She’s probably been challenged, lost, and doesn’t even know it yet.” Mari considered this and nodded, looking at Namchuri. The white and dark blue brute thought a moment and then nodded. “Alright, lets go.” He’d join ShadowClan. Marisela smiled. “Alright, you guys go on ahead. I’ll be there a bit after you guys. I have to go get Toboe.” And she padded off in the opposite direction of the boys, heading back to where she had left her love waiting. |
