Where do you see Sonic being from

Its a strange thing really.
Sega never really did give a crap about continuity, but they apparently do so know. But over the years, its been listed that Sonic has been from various different places.

Earth
First of, theres earth. In a lot of the early games, much to my surprise, the planet Sonic was running across was referred to as earth at times. Then of course came the adventure games, where Sonic was seen amongst humans, and of course that trend has continued throughout the latest games.
Also, its also claimed by Sega that Sonic was born on Christmas island, which is indeed an Island on our very own planet.

Mobius
Then of course there comes Mobius, the very planet this forum was named after. A planet said to be filled with furries and what not, which links nicely into the very first Sonic games where our hero is seen saving small animals and what not.
The idea of Mobius was also very present in the catoon series', with SatAm and Sonic Underground very clearly stating Sonic was from Mobius, and Sonic X as far as I can remember refers to Sonic's home planet as Mobius.

Freedom
Freedom is far more seldomly used planet compared to the others. Its main exploit was during Sonic the Movie, where planet freedom was a planet inhabited by a mixture of both Humans and Furries, as well as Sarah who had an animals tail? But either way, this planet probaly fits the Sonic Series the best, considering that it provides a world where both Sonic and Eggman could exist together, with out the questions of what is a Human doing in an animal world, or vice versa.

Of course there is no definitive answer to all of this. But most Sonic always have a planet they like to trust Sonic originated from. So basically, what planet have you always seen Sonic as being from, if any at all

While I recognize that this may be very narrow-minded of me, I hold the games in higher regard than any other media featuring the hedgehog. After all, it started as a video game series, so I'm just that much more inclined to follow the video games. As a result, I will always see Sonic as an Earthling.

Funnily enough, I've grown up with the series and was exposed to all of the Mobius mischief because I obviously bought the western version of the games and watched the shows. However, I didn't mind the regional consistency that happened when Adventure came about for two reasons: Despite popular belief, it actually didn't affect the story any when it happened, and I was just way too young to give a damn. Destruction is tempting
I would say Mobius because the fact it's the first time i would see him in action. In the AOSTH show that is. Of course the game started it all. But the matter of fact a planet all alone with no human activity kept a good atmosphere to Sonic in all means since i thought there had been enough with earth cartoon shows all over.

Mobius is my pick. Simple as it is. ^o)

I think I've always prefered Mobius as well. I started out watching Sonic Underground, and that always refered to their planet as Mobius, so I picked it up from there firstly.

Besides that, I've never really played the sonic games that have sonic running about earth. I did play Sonic 06, which really, burned the whole idea of Sonic living on earth to a crisp, with animal human relationships. I mean, people are arrested for that shit.

Though, the concept behind planet freedom I think is the most interesting. Where the planet is split into two layers, a bit like a heaven and hell sort of thing. Then you have a world were Humans can exist, which helps to make sense of where eggman came from. I think all of that really creates a Sonic world that makes sense.
Plus the land of the sky is split into various islands, which helps explain the drastic change in landscape during Sonic games.

But despite all that, I've always called Sonics home mobius. Its almost comes natural I think.

Sonic started off on Planet Mobius fighting the deadly Robotnik, not on Earth with Eggman. Thus, MoD hath spoken =P

That's true... if of course, you followed the western interpretation and not the eastern one which was just as canon at the time. XP

Honestly, I've never seen why the concept of Sonic living on Earth has confounded some people, regardless of issues with the retcon. Most anthros we know today live right here on Earthly soil, such as the Looney Tunes or the Mickey Mouse crew. These interpretations of Earth defy just as much logic as the one presented in the Sonic games. So, why a hedgehog, an animal from Earth, has been better perceived as an alien entity is beyond me.... (I'm ironically about to shoot this type of thinking down in a rant I'm about to post. Cheerio! XD)

As I may have mentioned in another thread, there are now so many versions of what can be considered canonical that it's tearing the fanbase apart. I've always believed things to be set on a fluffy planet of goodness, and others jumped on board with the comics, others with the movie...

It's about time SEGA grabbed a fucking hold of their franchise and decided in what direction it's going. Oh, and please forbid the fact that the new Sonic RPG by BioWare throws another spanner in the works!

Frankly, I think they're doing the right thing by leaving the different universes as separate from their own. At this point, the majority of them have been so developed and/or popularized, mainly Archie, that if Sega were to step in now and streamline everything, it'd be no less than fucking Armageddon. Characters would be lost, regions would be vaporized, and the amount of hate and lost revenue would be absolutely enormous; it'd be a metaphorical slap to the face to the rest of the fans followed with a spit in the eye and a "This shit has always been wrong!" to boot. Unless they are absolutely that tyrannical or just don't care, they'd be wise keeping their changes as minor as "Sonic can't cry that much." (Personally, I'd love it if they did that, just to get back at all of the people who laugh at those for liking the games more than the other media.)

Nevertheless, in regards to canon, I don't think it's that hard to figure out. The games are separate from the comic which are separate from the television shows which are separate from each other. Everything is different and whatever you want to follow is on you. I'm still very elitist regarding this matter, however, and hold the games as above everything else because Sonic is, at first and foremost, a gaming franchise regardless of how popular the other media outlets have become.

Though, what do you mean about Chronicles? I've heard it's actually set on fixing any "loose ends" the series has, which are very minimal in number if one is to really think about it.
