With smogon's official little cup tournament over, I feel comfortable with posting my winning team. As a little background, this team has hardly changed since I started playing LC. Mainly, I have replaced things here and there as things got banned, but a majority of my team, and its play style, was inspired by my former teacher, Seph. His strategy is to mainly be as offensive as possible, and with LC being as offensive as it is, it has worked out quite nicely, despite the fact that this team appears to have some big weaknesses to some pokemon, such as Murkrow. However, without further ado, the team that won me the LC tournament, against all odds! Kid Boo (Gastly) (M) @ Life Orb Ability: Levitate EVs: 76 Def/236 Spd/196 SAtk Naive nature (+Spd, -SDef) - Hypnosis - Explosion - Thunderbolt - Shadow Ball Inspired by the LO gar set from standard. It's my standard all around lead. Hypnosis is to send the slower, bulkier leads to sleep, and Shadow Ball and Thunderbolt for standard attacks. The main thing I need to be careful of is Murkrow, as it can easily switch in on Shadow Ball and Hypnosis and kill me with Pursuit, but Thunderbolt will OHKO if I manage to predict the switch. Lastly, explosion is my last resort move as it kills pretty much anything that doesn't resist it and catches a switching munchlax in by surprise every now and then. --- Whopper Jr. (Munchlax) (M) @ Choice Band Ability: Thick Fat EVs: 236 HP/236 Atk/36 SAtk Brave nature (+Atk, -Spd) - Pursuit - Earthquake - Fire Blast - Return CB Snorlax was one of the things Seph introduced me to in OU, and I realized that its alter ego, CB Munchlax, has a nice niche in LC. It's my main switch in to to special attackers (And Gastly/Misdreavus counter), but most people don't expect CB Lax. CB Return OHKOs many would be switch-ins, such as Machop and Makuhita, and even 2HKOs some bulkier things like Gligar. Munchlax is even bulky enough with these EVs to only be 2HKO'd by Murkrow's Drill Peck (3HKO'd by Pluck and HP Fighting) but always OHKO'd by Return. Earthquake is to handle some things that resist normal, like Shieldon and Magnemite. Pursuit allows me to hit and revenge kill some ghosts. The last slot was filler, as since Munchlax does not learn Fire Punch or Self Destruct, Bronzor painfully walls this set. CB Return does about 40%, which is respectable, but Bronzor usually packs reflect, so I decided to take advantage of the fact that Munchlax learns Fire Blast. However, in most of my battles, Munchlax either dies or does its job before having to deal with Bronzor, so it's almost an afterthought. ---- Run like a pussy! (Diglett) (M) @ Life Orb Ability: Arena Trap EVs: 196 Atk/76 Def/236 Spd Jolly nature (+Spd, -SAtk) - Earthquake - Aerial Ace - Rock Slide - Sucker Punch My main Revenge Killer and possible late game sweeper. It allows me to trap and OHKO several things that resist my Murkrow's attacks with Earthquake, but it is also useful because it is fast enough to finish off almost everything in LC. Rock Slide will beat Murkrow, provided it doesn't Sucker Punch, and Aerial Ace is filler. Sucker Punch mainly helps me pick off faster but weakened targets. Bronzor is again my biggest problem, but again, Digglet always kills something before that happens. --- Murkrow (M) @ Life Orb Ability: Insomnia EVs: 36 HP/236 Atk/236 Spd Hasty nature (+Spd, -Def) - Drill Peck - Sucker Punch - Pursuit - Hidden Power [Ground] My primary sweeper. It's pretty much used on every team, and for a damn good reason. Having access to an 80 BP STAB priority move is just awesome. For this reason, it's pretty self explanatory, but I use HP Ground over HP Fighting for a few reasons. One is that HP Ground will always OHKO Magnemite, and it also allows me to finish off some weakened electric types like Chinchou and Elekid. It also does just as much damage to Aron and Shieldon as HP Fighting does, two of Murkrow's most common switch-ins. All in all, a very powerful force, but believe it or not, it hasn't been the main source of most of my wins: --- Fuck off Bronzor (Magnemite) @ Oran Berry Ability: Magnet Pull EVs: 236 HP/36 Def/236 SAtk Modest nature (+SAtk, -Atk) - Thunderbolt - Substitute - Hidden Power [Ice] - Explosion Magnezone is one of my favorite pokemon in OU because because it can stop steel types that otherwise wall you right in their tracks. Of course, I originally intended to use this as a Bronzor counter (Hence the name), but since I learned that Magnet Rise is illegal (And with Bronzor still packing Earthquake), the best it can do is revenge kill Bronzor after it is down to about 60% of its health. I still use Magnemite for one reason though, and that is because Murkrow (like Bronzor) is on virtually every team. Bearing a 4x resist to flying, it takes less than 20% from Drill Peck (25% from Pluck if it gets my Oran Berry) and always OHKO's Murkrow with Thunderbolt. I then have substitute to scout switches, such as Gligar, Munchlax, and Chinchou, and then either react with HP Ice or Explosion accordingly. If the Murkrow chooses to stay in, HP Fighting from the average Murkrow fails to OHKO but leaves Magnemite with just enough HP to recover with an Oran Berry, while my substitute still stands. Without even considering Murkrow, however, Magnemite is still quite powerful, able to at least 2HKO almost anything that doesn't resist its Thunderbolt. --- judooo choppp! (Machop) (M) @ Oran Berry Ability: No Guard EVs: 196 HP/196 Atk/36 Def/76 SDef Careful nature (+SDef, -SAtk) - Dynamicpunch - Bullet Punch - Ice Punch - Bulk Up This is it -- My main source of victory for almost all of my LC matches. Machamp appealed to me in OU for having a cool combination of bulk and power, but also being able to stop things with a No Guard Dynamic Punch. In LC, since Bronzor walls half of my team, it is useful to have one pokemon that can come in and freely set up on it, which is exactly what Machop does with Bulk Up. Still, I have rarely needed to do so, as Machop is bulky enough to survive most neutral hits and then OHKO opponents right back with Dynamic Punch. Even if they survive, they are left with confusion, as well as a Bullet Punch to finish them off. Lastly, Ice Punch allows me to OHKO unsuspecting Gligar switch-ins with one Bulk Up. PS to eric -- I want a badge for winning the tournament! D= |

I can see this could have some problems revenge killing Scarfers or speed boosting Pokemon if you lose Murkrow, would you consider trying a sash on Gastly? As its the lead you have no fear of SR and you no longer have to run from Scarf leads. CBlax is cool.. but I have always hated the way that you end up 2KO'd by strong special sweepers without Oran. But if it works for you keep it. For Diglett, Pursuit (for levitating ghosts), HP ice (for Gligar) or Sub (Sucker Punch THIS Murkrow) work as better fillers than AA. Your Krow set looks fine, have you weighed up Drill Peck against Pluck? How often do you get to use BU on Machop? Maybe Fire Punch would be an alternative option? Incredible how even a tournament winning team still has a little room for improvement... But its very solid, everything I have said are just nitpicks, or ideas for things to try out. I remember playing this team.. you brought you Magnemite into Murkrow, I went to Diglett to absorb the Tbolt but you HP ice'd me.. I think if your Mite goes down you do have big subkrow problems, but who doesn't? At least you start of with a decent counter. And Lax can revenge wall it if needed. ps. It was a Smogon tournament, why would I give you a badge here? Edited by eric the espeon, Sep 21 2008, 03:19 PM.

cool team, and congrats ![]() You probably arent interested in much of a rate (nor in need of one) but a couple of things: ~Try out HP Ice>Aerial Ace on Diglett since SD Gligar could potentially sweep you. 10 SpA is all that is needed to OHKO from my experience ~Try Sub>Explosion on Gastly if you find yourself with Murkrow troubles. ~You need a Murkrow nickname Eric, Bass needs a badge damnit
