[SET] name: Standard move1: Shadow Ball move2: Hidden Power Fighting / Thunderbolt move3: Hypnosis move4: Explosion / Thunderbolt item: Life Orb nature: Hasty / Naive evs: 36 HP / 200 SpA / 200 Spe [SET COMMENTS]
Gastly's a cool Pokémon, and this set has some advantages over Ghost cousin Misdreavus. Most notably, Hypnosis will put something out of commission 70% of the time; that's plenty reliable enough in Little Cup. Gastly also gets the excellent Explosion, something Misdreavus could only dream of. With a neutral nature and Life Orb, it can be quite deadly.

Shadow Ball is Gastly's best STAB attack, and it has good coverage. Hidden Power Fighting together with Shadow Ball allows for perfect coverage of types. Thunderbolt is an option to hit Bronzor and Murkrow harder, but it's not required.
[SET] name: Choice move1: Shadow Ball move2: Hidden Power Fighting move3: Thunderbolt / Energy Ball move4: Hypnosis / Explosion item: Choice Specs / Choice Scarf nature: Modest / Rash evs: 36 HP / 200 SpA / 200 Spe [SET COMMENTS]
Hypnosis and Explosion are required, otherwise Misdreavus does this exact set better. This is also the reason Modest is recommended; the extra Special Attack really helps and Timid wouldn't let Gastly hit 19 Speed anyway. Anyway, this set works like any Choice user: Come in on a resistance or immunity, hit, and run. Murkrow gives this set problems, but it doesn't make this set any worse.

With Choice Scarf, this set hits 25 Speed, making Gastly an effective revenge killer to anything without a priority attack.
[[SUBSALAC DB SET]] [[CHOICE BAND SET?]] [[OTHER OPTIONS]] [[OPINION]] [[COUNTERS]] Edited by eric the espeon, Nov 27 2008, 06:06 PM.

Sort'a I copied the text from there, but changed the numbers based on the LC Stats program. I wasn't sure if the "Min-" values were supposed to be with a 0 IV, so I put the ones in that the program said. I can change them for 0 IV's if that's what it's supposed to be. [edit] The table in my other post now has 0 IV's for the "Min-" column. Gonna look into what sort of SubSalac set he could run. With or without Destiny Bond?[/edit] Something along the lines of: Name: SubSalac Move 1: Substitute Move 2: Shadow Ball Move 3: Hidden Power Fighting Move 4: Thunderbolt / Explosion Item: Salac Berry Ability: Levitate Nature: Modest EVs: 36 HP / 40 Def / 200 SpA / 200 Spe or Nature: Lonely EVs: 36 HP / 40 Def / 200 SpA / 200 Spe Comments: The dreaded SubSalac set from his older brother Gengar. Substitute until you are low enough on health to activate Salac Berry (with the stated EV's, Salac will activate after 3 Subs). After the Salac boost your Speed is at 25, which sets you above any non-scarfer. Gastly's excellent list of resistances means he shouldn't have too much trouble coming in on any Poison, Ground, Normal or Fighting type moves. Also can switch into Sucker Punches, and use Substitute while the opponent attempts to hit him with Sucker Punch again, or switches to an appropriate counter. The only reason to go Lonely is so that Explosion is an almost guaranteed OHKO on standard CurseLax and SubPunchLax (87.18%). While it's not suggested you switch into either of these, it is always better to have something to do, over getting KO'd by a Pursuit as you flee. If you do choose Explosion, then you can place Thunderbolt over HP Fighting for better overall power. Edited by BeUndead, Nov 27 2008, 10:27 PM.

Min- has 31 IV. DB is an option over Explode to get Rocks Steels and Ghosts who you expect to attack. Chris want to edit that set into your analysis? |

Then the first one I posted has 31 IV's across the board. And yeah, DB is an option. As is Hynosis, since when you're faster (thanks to Salac) there's not much you can't outspeed and put to sleep, although I wouldn't want to due to poor accuracy risk. |
