Sunny Day Effects: 1. All Fire-Type moves have 150% power 2. All Water moves have 50% power. 3. Thunder's acuuracy is reduced to 50% 4. Synthesis, Morning Sun, and Moonlight heal 2/3 of health. 5. Activates the abilities Chlorophyll, Solar Power, 6. Weather Ball becomes a Fire-type move. Sunny Day Team Building Guide: You should have 2-3 Pokemon who set-up Sunny Day, 2-3 Fire-types, and some favorable Grass-types. Chlorophyll Pokemon: Oddish Bellsprout Exeggcute Hoppip Sunkern Seedot Cherubi Solar Power Pokemon: Sunkern Dry Skin Pokemon: (DON'T use these.) Croagunk Paras Leaf Guard Pokemon: Hoppip Set-up: You should have 2-3 Pokemon to set-up the sun. If you only have 1, you're screwed if it gets KOd, but if you have too many, you're wasting valuable moveslots on other Pokemon. Set-up examples: Exeggcute@Heat Rock Timid 36 HP/36 Def/196 Spe/196 SpAtk Sunny Day Solarbeam HP Fire/Ground Explosion Exeggcute is one of the best choices for set-up, since he has Chlorophyll, a strong Solarbeam, a Sleep move, and Explosion. However, he may not be the best lead because he is rather slow before setting up Sunny Day. You can use Sleep Powder over HP if you are using him as a lead, though. HP Ground is an option because it hits other Fire-types. Ponyta@Heat Rock/Wide Lens Timid 36 HP/196 Spe/236 SpAtk Sunny Day Flamethrower/Fire Blast Hypnosis Solarbeam Ponyta is probably the best choice for a lead in a Sunny Day team. 19 Speed+Hypnosis+Solarbeam makes a very powerful combination. Heat Rock is the preferred item, but if you have adequate team support, Wide Lens increases the accuracy of Hypnosis and Fire Blast. Ponyta is also the only Fire-type in LC (besides Hondour) to learn Solarbeam. LC Legal Fire-Types: Charmander: Access to Belly Drum and DD, decent offenses and speed Vulpix: Decent special movepool, bu horrible stats and no Nasty Plot Growlithe: Good offences(Base 70), but poor movepool(Fire, Dark, Normal, Steel, HP) Ponyta: As stated, Hypnosis, Solarbeam, and fast Cyndaquil: STAB, Choice Scarf Eruption hits very fast and very hard Slugma: No. Magby: Good offences and movepool, very fast Hondour: Fast, high SpAtk, Nasty Plot Torchic: Nothing exceptional about it Numel: Not weak to Rock, but that's about it Chimchar: Decent offences, OK speed, unpredictable movepool, SD and NP Not too many choices, but enough. Other useful Pokemon: Munchlax: Thick Fat and EQ makes it a very good counter to other Fire-types, and is strong overall. Sample LC Sunny Day Team: Ponyta (M) @ Wide Lens Ability: Flash Fire EVs: 36 HP/196 Spd/236 SAtk Timid nature (+Spd, -Atk) - Sunny Day - Fire Blast - Hypnosis - Solarbeam Starter, very fast, sets up Sunny Day --- Exeggcute (M) @ Heat Rock Ability: Chlorophyll EVs: 36 HP/40 Def/196 Spd/196 SAtk Timid nature (+Spd, -Atk) - Solarbeam - Sunny Day - Explosion - Hidden Power [Ice] Second sun starter, good Special Sweeper, can go out with a bang --- Munchlax (M) @ Oran Berry Ability: Thick Fat EVs: 236 HP/36 Def/236 SDef Relaxed nature (+Def, -Spd) - Earthquake - Fire Punch(Filler, as I just found out that Curse+Pursuit is illegal) - Curse - Return Physical sweeper, Fire counter #1 --- Magby (M) @ Choice Band Ability: Flame Body EVs: 236 Atk/252 Spd Hasty nature (+Spd, -Def) - Fire Punch - Thunderpunch - Mach Punch - Overheat Physical Sun abuser --- Houndour (M) @ Life Orb Ability: Flash Fire EVs: 240 Spd/200 SAtk/40 SDef Timid nature (+Spd, -Atk) - Nasty Plot - Flamethrower - Dark Pulse - Hidden Power [Fighting] Special Sun abuser --- Oddish (M) @ Heat Rock Ability: Chlorophyll EVs: 200 Spd/236 SAtk Timid nature (+Spd, -Atk) - Sludge Bomb - Hidden Power [Rock] - Solarbeam - Sunny Day More Chlorophyll action, can also set up the sun, Fire counter #2, but only in the sun Edited by npchimcharftw, Dec 13 2008, 08:38 PM.

This guide is really, really bare bones and doesn't really say much about Sunny Day strategy. A new user might wonder why they need 2 to 3 SDers, instead of 1 or 5. What are the drawbacks of Sunny Day? What are some recommended movesets for XYZ? |
