Preview to Short Intro Hey everyone! This happens to be my first decent team built in the LC metagame, but I'm still fairly new to it. It's performed rather well from the few battle challenges I get on the Smogon University Server of Shoddy Battle, but I can't help but think it's not performing as well as it could be. This was originally a much worse team until I asked Cooper for some help, having a Glameow lead, and being even more Ice weak than it is right now. He gave me some good replacements and insight into my team; thanks for the nudge into LC :] Oh, this also happens to be my first RMT. Alright, here's the team. I hope it isn't too terrible: The Team Sourpuss @ Life Orb Ability: Technician EVs: 76 HP/236 Atk/196 Spd Jolly nature (+Spd, -SAtk) - Fake Out - Hypnosis - U-turn - Bite Role: I've always been pretty fond of Anti-Leads/Annoyers. Meowth might not fit perfectly into either one, but with a STAB Technician Priority move, and one of the quickest hypnosis', it does it's job well. While Fake Out is typically what I lead off with if it's something that would like to stay in on me, hypnosis is used over Fake Out if I expect a switch to a ghost to block it. Murkrow switches are a pain however, typically messing me up. Uturn is 40% off of Lileep while giving me a slow switch, and Bite is for the sleepy ghosts. Keeping him alive until later is pretty important, as he's my only other priority user with the exception of Doduo. Synergy: Meowth fits quite well with Misdreavus, as she cover's his fighting weakness and can stat up on the switch. Overall, he works quite well with any of my stat up-ers; Munchlax has a pretty easy time with Murkrow, and Dratini gains some nice speed. ColinJF ;o @ Choice Scarf Ability: Early Bird EVs: 236 Atk/236 Spd Adamant nature (+Atk, -SAtk) - Quick Attack - Return - Flail - Brave Bird Role: The speed demon of my team, hitting a frightening 25 speed (that is frightening by LC standards, right?). Doduo is packing a priority move for certain Agility Pokemon, pesky Sucker Punching Murkrow, and weakened foes with scary stuff like Ice Shard. Stab on both Return and Brave Bird is a cool feature. Early Bird also helps him with Hypnosis. Synergy: While none of my pokemon are weak to EQ, the immunity is still quite helpful. While Staryu absorbs sleep a little better because of Natural Cure and Dratini laughs at most status with Shed Skin, it's still an extra option. Oh, and I had lots of trouble with Snover Ice Sharding through my team once Lax was down, but then I noticed that Doduo would live through it and OHKO with BB. It MIGHT not of been a CBed Snover, but it's still nice to know. Munchlax is Doduo's best friend, saving it from scary thunder bolts and nasty ice beams. Noobie Dunk (F) @ Life Orb Ability: Shed Skin EVs: 84 Atk/196 Spd/196 SAtk Mild nature (+SAtk, -Def) - Draco Meteor - Fire Blast - Dragon Dance - Outrage Role: Eh, this was originally Choice Specs Dratini, but it did next to nothing for my team. I made her into Mixtini, but I've had only one match since then. It seemed to do it's job, OHKOing two pokes before dieing to a combination of confusion and Munchlax. This is probably my iffiest pokemon right now, but maybe I just needed this set over specs all along. Synergy: Shed Skin makes Dratini a pretty good status absorber, allowing her to stay in where Staryu would have to switch out. DD gives her pretty good speed, which my team enjoys. It's also a good stat up to use while Murkrow is trying his luck Sucker Punching. Work's well with Thick Fat Munchlax covering it's ice weakness. HotGarbie @ Oran Berry Ability: Levitate EVs: 28 HP/240 Spd/240 SAtk Timid nature (+Spd, -Atk) - Substitute - Hidden Power [Fighting] - Shadow Ball - Calm Mind Role: Calm Mind the switch, and hit with powerful STABed Shadow Ball or the SE Hidden Power Fighting. Oran Berry + CM + Misdreavus' defenses give it some decent lasting power, Synergy: The immunity to fighting is key, covering meowth and munchlax's biggest weakness'. It makes a great partner with Munchlax, as previously stated. Levitate makes this my second ground immunity. Revisions -Removed Double Hit on Doduo for Flail -Removed Destiny bond on Misdreavus for Substitute Captain @ Oran Berry Ability: Levitate EVs: 220 HP/4 Atk/148 Def/68 SDef Sassy nature (+SDef, -Spd) - Stealth Rock - Gyro Ball - Earthquake - Reflect Thunderhose get it? @ Oran Berry Ability: Volt Absorb EVs: 236 HP/228 SDef Relaxed nature (+Def, -Spd) - Thunderbolt - Confuse Ray - Surf - Thunder Wave Graveyard
R.I.P. ![]() Outro And there you have it. That's my team at this moment, and I would like you're thoughts on it. My tournament match is probably taking place tomorrow, but i'm not rushing you guys. I'll just try my hand with this as is. So Doduo and Staryu I would like to keep if possible :[ Thanks for the time to look at this all. Edited by Mr Escalator, Jul 23 2008, 09:38 PM.

Double Hit still doesn't circumvent Focus Sash, so it's a completely useless move on Doduo. You know on the analysis when I said Destiny Bond might be better than Substitute on Misdreavus? I lied. Use Substitute. Nasty Plot Croagunk absolutely destroys this team, as do most Fighting Pokémon. Less Normal types would help. Hint: Replace Munchlax with your own Chinchou as they're basically both the same Pokémon, and possibly consider something like Gligar or Bronzor over Staryu. Post has been logged. Well, that makes two analysis' that lied to me. Double Hit doesn't break Sasher's, so I'll probably swap that out for steel wing. I'm also willing to try Substitute over Destiny Bond, which has worked out for me. If Chichou performs in a similar fashion to how Munchlax does now, by soaking Ice Attacks and providing good special defense, then he'll probably be a keeper. I'll fit him into my team and give him a test run. I'm wary about dropping Staryu; giving some great coverage and all without needing to stat up. I would feel more comfortable dropping Dratini, but you might be right. I'll try that out as well, just... based on my team, would I probably benefit more from Gligar, or Bronzor? Thanks for the rate, Chris ![]() Anyone else have insight on this team? I've faced quite of few of you guys, I believe, so some of you should know my team first hand. |

I'm beginning to see why you wouldn't replace Doduo, considering that your intended role for her is different than what I was thinking it was. However, this leads me to say replace with Scarf Cranidos. This doesn't help your Croagunk weak in the slightest, but it does help your Bronzor. After Dratini goes down, Staryu is your only option to take the little guy down. You've got decent protection against being walled by Shieldon/Aron, but still be wary of them.

replace Dou with Gligar Gligar (M) @ Focus Sash Ability: Hyper Cutter EVs: 236 Atk/236 Spd Adamant nature (+Atk, -SAtk) - Swords Dance - Earthquake - Stone Edge/X scissor - Baton Pass Doesn't help your ice weakness but helps your thunder weakness. Attack what you know you can kill and then SD up and bp out (when you know your opponent can kill you) to Munchy or Dratini to add an extra kick replace Staryu with Chinchou (M) @ Oran Berry Ability: Volt Absorb EVs: 236 HP/228 SDef Calm nature (+SDef, -Atk) - Thunderbolt - Surf - Thunder Wave - Confuse Ray or Psyduck (M) @ Choice Scarf Ability: Cloud Nine EVs: 24 Atk/236 Spd/240 SAtk Naive nature (+Spd, -SDef) - Cross Chop - Surf - Ice Beam - Hidden Power [Grass] This thing does about the excact same thing that Staryu does with a little less power but enough. And I always like having a scarfer so which is why I'd put Duck over Staryu (because if you go with my above suggestion you won't have your scarfer) those are my suggestions if you don't like them then don't use them but it doesn't hurt to test |

Alright! The current team has proven to be successful. Here are the changes that i'm currently using: -Took of Double Hit on Doduo for Flail. My thinking is, with SR and BB lowering my health, it may be likely to get my health low enough for it's base power to beat that of return's. -Substitute over Destiny Bond on Misdreavus. It has yet to do much of anything YET, but i'm hopeful it will work out. -Bronzor replacing Staryu. Another fine wall. He provides support with reflect and SR, while being able to hit fast guys hard. -Chinchou replacing Munchlax. I'm sad seeing Lax go, but they're share similar "resistances", while Chou can use my electric weak to it's advantage, and can give opponents a present on the switch in. There. What do you think about my team set up as such? I like it, for the most part. It won me my first tourney match without Dratini needing to show it's face (and Doduo really did a number on a great deal of his pokes, and eventually dealt the final blow with Flail). I don't see Gunk doing much to this team (though I really didnt see what he planned to do in the first place with Doduo's super speed and STABed priority). Thanks for the suggestions, Beefy, but Chris got here first, and I like how his revisions have worked out. |

Good Point Beefy. Sub does give me some good protection. Destiny bond, however, did seem to scare off Murkrows when I used it. I'll wait and see how Sub works. On the topic of Murkrows, I actually haven't had many problems with the mobster bird. Doduo can poke him really hard with QA and SR's from Bronzor hurt him quite badly as well with reflect weakening his Sucker Punch. Chris is probably talking in terms of what I'm using them for. Munchlax's ThickFat helped my ice weak, and his huge special defense laughed at thunder attacks. Chou resists Ice and Fire as well, and gives a great electric immunity. but... I think Lax did a lot more. Though, now that I don't have Staryu, I need his coverage. Ah well. Question: Will I get more battles from Doug's server, or Smogon's? I'm frequently on the Smogon University server but theres times where nobody is looking for a battle. |

Thanks Spanky! Too bad I never got to see if I did have one, since your Gunk was level 100 xD Doduo seems to handle him quite well, though, I wasted him by not QA'ing Crow. |
