[SET]
Name : Choice 'Mander
Move 1 Dragon Claw / Outrage
Move 2 Flare Blitz
Move 3 Shadow Claw / Crunch
Move 4 Fire Punch / Overheat
Item : Choice Band/Choice Scarf
Nature : Adamant/Jolly/Naughty
EVs : 44 Hp/ 180 Atk/ 36 SAtk/ 236 Spd

[SET COMMENNTS]

Physical charmander unfortunately has a lack of a decent move pool to work off. Dragon Claw or Outrage are good and nearly unresisted in Little Cup. It depends if you prefer the raw power of Outrage, for the confusion, or the safety of Dragon Claw, which allows you to switch out of Bronzor if it rears it's metallic head. Flare Blitz , Fire Punch or Overheat are for STAB and to hit those steel types who resist Dragon Claw or Outrage (Overheat has the advantage of OHKO'ing Bronzor). Use Flare Blitz like you would Draco Meteor on Specs Mence : to hit one thing hard, and then run away. You cannot use Flare Blitz all the time, for Charmander's small HP will be whittled down quickly. Shadow claw (or Crunch) is mainly filler (Charmander doesn't get Earthquake, unlike it's evolved form) but can be used to hurt the Ghost and Psychic types of Little Cup.

The item choice is huge, though. With Choice Band, Charmander has a 22/21 Attack and 16/17 Speed, depending on your nature (Adamant/Jolly). With Choice Scarf, however, the fire lizard has 15/14 attack and 24/25 spped, which is enough to outspeed all non-scarfed Abra and Gastly and OHKO Abra with Shadow Claw or Flare blitz. Gastly, however, has a chance to survive the Shadow Claw, but is OHKO'd by Flare Blitz.

[SET]
Name : Special Choice 'Mander
Move 1 Flamethrower/Fire Blast
Move 2 Hidden Power [Grass]
Move 3 Ancientpower
Move 4 Overheat
Item : Choice Scarf/ Choice Specs
Nature : Modest/Timid
EVs : 44 Hp/ 196 SAtk/236 Spd

[SET COMMENTS]

If you thought Charmander's Physical options were bad, its special ones are even worse, which is sad, considering Special Attack is its best attacking stat. Flamethrower or Fire Blast are for STAB, again, your choice dependant on Accuracy or Power. Hidden Power Grass is for Water and Rock types that resist Fire. Ancientpower is used against flying and the dragons, who resist your other moves, and a boost is always helpful. Overheat is when you want to destroy something (other than Charmander's SAtk).

The item is influencial once again. The multicoloured specs brings Charmander's Special Attack to 24/23, and 16/17 speed, or scarf, which makes Special attack 16/15 and speed to 24/25, dependant on your nature. Scarf has the advantage of being able to outspeed AND OHKO Abra and Gastly with Overheat, something the physical set can't say.

[SET]
Name : DDMander
Move 1 Dragon Dance
Move 2 Outrage
Move 3 Fire Punch
Move 4 Shadow Claw/Crunch
Item - Focus Sash/Oran Berry/Lum Berry
Nature : Adamant/Jolly
EVs : 44 Hp/ 180 Atk/ 36 SDef/ 236 Spd

[SET COMMENTS]

Charmander is one of the rare pokemon who can DDOutrage, the other most famous one being Dratini. What charmander does that Dratini doesn't is speed, with Charmander having more speed, but with the disadvantage of having less attack and STAB.

DD is the core of the set, and the item choice reflects this. Focus Sash Guarantees that you can pull off a Dragon Dance, while Oran berry is so that if you get hit while Dancing, you can recover your health (as most things 2HKO the poor lizard) and Lum Berry can get rid of the conufsion that Outrage causes (while being a good protection against sleep from a Gastly. Outrage and Fire Fang are unresisted together, with Fire Punch receiving STAB and Crunch is for the Abra's or Gastly's that roam Littlt Cup (and are both OHKO'd by a +1 Crunch/Shadow Claw).

[OTHER OPTIONS]

Charmander could do a Belly Drum set, with an Oran berry, but would lack the speed to sweep opponent's teams. Focus Punch could work in the highly-paced Little Cup, but you could always switch to a ghost and block the attack. All of the other options are in the sets - Charmander's movepool isn't something to write home about. Fire Fang can always be used over Fire Punch on the Physical sets, if you have no Emerald acess, or if you really want the Flinch hax (Charmander isn't really fast enough to make use of it).

[EVs]

With Charmander's frailness, max out the attacking stats, while providing extra EVs to bulk Charmander up how you can. On the Physical Choice 'Mander set, use 36 SAtk EVs only with Naughty, otherwise, they should be 36 SDef Evs.

[OPINION]

Charmander is the definiton of BL - It can do most things, and most things well. It's just that other pokemon do the same job better than him. The best thing about him would be the Fire STAB that keeps Bronzor from walling, but is then cannon fodder for the opponent's Diglett. It's a good pokemon, and can be a breath of freash air.

[COUNTERS]

The main counters are dependant on the set - the Rock/Ground types or Steel/Rock types are good counters to the physical set, but die to either HP Grass or Overheat. It is the same with Muchlax and the special sets, but will not be OHKO'd by a +1 Outrage, possibly the best Charmander can throw against the the big eater. The Water/Rock Types of Little Cup can switch in on almost anything Charmander weilds, apart from HP Grass. Omanyte and Kabuto can set up Rain Dance, incresing their speed and reducing Charmander's Fire STAB, while Kabuto can hit Charmander with STAB Aqua Jet. Charmander's unpredictability is it's best weapon - find out its set and you can counter accordingly.

Charmander gets Fire Punch. Isn't that better than Fire Fang? None of your sets seem to have truly illegal options with it (Charmander can get Shadow Claw with Fire Punch because it's a TM, and it can get DD and Outrage with it as well).

Yer, but all Fire Punch Charmanders are level5 when you get them, so I don't think you can EV them fully...

Link to Fallacy's explanation of the Box Trick. It is indeed possible to EV a Lv. 5 pokemon correctly without getting it to Lv. 6.
Seven Deadly Sins

Banded Gible 2HKOs pretty much everything with Outrage, and OHKOs most everything.

Oh, OK then. I'll add Fire Punch over Fire Fang on the physical sets.

Anything else needed to add?

Back. Will see in the next week or so how much I can contribute.

diglett cannot switch into Charmander and without scarf gets beat by DD versions, so it is not the best counter. Larvitar, Aron, Shieldon, Onix, Rhyhorn all deserve mentions, Omayte and Kabuto also do; with Kabuto getting STAB Aqua Jet too.

First set
Crunch should only be listed in the third slot. Shadow claw is pretty obsolete to it.
Why isn't focus punch anywhere? It makes a fine substitute for anything in the last slot.

Second set
It's fine I suppose... although I don't honestly like it. Not sure if it can KO, but maybe suggest Focus punch for .

Third set
The big draw of a DD+outrage set is that the outrage is STABBEd. If you start outrageing, you'll just have to watch the painful process of a Bronzong switching in and killing you with earthquake while you attack. Flareblitz does more, especially if you're using a focus sash. I think that maybe Return or substitute could be nice options over it.

Again, Scrap shadow claw.

Other options-
If a pokemon lacks enough speed to run a bellydrum set, then you give it a salac berry to make it faster. I REALLY think that a bellydrum set should go on charmander somewhere. Focus punch doesn't really deserve to be in other options. It's not like Focus punch is a chargeing move were your opponent gets a free turn, the move is a wild, unpredictable attack ment to hit on the switch.

Opinion-
It just seems kind of poorly written. Maybe elaborate more on why charmander is a good choice, what his pros are and what sets him back.

Counters-
"The best charmander can through at the big eater" is a focus punch when you predict a switch. the hole section about water/rock types also needs to take a little bit of choice banded focus punch into account.

Sorry, but I'm not sure this is salvagable. From Charmander's "poor movepool" (You see, he could easily run Flare Blitz / Dragon Claw / Focus Punch / Crunch) to DD getting priority over the superior Belly Drum + Salac to your lack of knowledge on how a Salac Berry could improve his Speed, it just seems like you're really unfamiliar with Charmander. Hell, you don't even know what BL is. BL is the group of lesser used Pokémon that are as good as OU, thus keeping them out of UU...

Recommending thread for lock. I've bees steadily losing my mod priveleges all day...
