[SET] name: Lead Spikes move 1: Spikes move 2: Protect move 3: Stun Spore move 4: Giga Drain/Leaf Storm item: Focus Sash evs: 196 Hp/36 SpAtk/236 Spd nature: Timid [SET COMMENTS]
This set is entirely focused on remaining alive and setting up spikes. You've got several options here. Stun spore is so you can cripple some pokemon after Spikes have been used or if all is left are pokemon with Levitate or Flying-Types. Focus Sash is so even if the other pokemon is faster and goes to KO Budew it survives for atleast 1 layer. Giga Drain would be so it can gain back lost HP. Leaf Storm is so Budew is able hit harder.
[SET] name: Double Powder move 1: Sleep Powder move 2: Stun Spore move 3: HP Rock/HP Fire move 4: Leaf Storm item: Focus Sash evs: 196 Hp/36 SpAtk/236 Spd nature: Timid [SET COMMENTS]
Pretty much get in there, and spread status. Focus Sash lets you actually do something instead of being KOed off the bat. HP Rock covers fires and flying types in the line of Murkrow that think they can OHKO and don't fear sleep. HP Fire has other grass types and Steels. Leaf Storm is for heavy hitting on everything Budew outspeeds.
[OTHER OPTIONS]
Toxic is a good choice for statusing. Cotton Spores can force switches from fast sweepers. With Sunny Day, Budew can make good use of Synthesis for heal. Though it's only 1/4 in Sand,Rain, or Hail.
[OPINION]
Budew is an OKAY pokemon if you're going for status and residual spreading, which, don't get me wrong, is a pretty good use. There's just other pokemon who are faster, tougher, and stronger which do it better. I think Budew would've been better off if it got Toxic Spikes like it's other evolutions but it's stuck with spikes.
[COUNTERS]
Anything with weather breaks Budew's Focus Sash. So, Hippowdon and Snover are problems for this awkward brusslesprout. Fake out is also a problem, for it breaks sash and flinches allowing the pokemon to then OHKO it the next turn, stopping budew from doing anything. Edited by PirateDelux, Jun 29 2008, 02:09 PM.

Doesnt budew get toxic spikes? That could work well with Sleep Powder. |

Needs more Choice Scarf. With 55 base speed, that's pretty much the only way you're going to be able to sleep something on the first turn. Also, what's the point of Protect on the Spikes set? It doesn't serve any functional purpose besides stalling for a turn, and there are a lot of better options when it comes to scouting. |

I'd say Scarf just for the sake of Sleeping, which may fail at 25% of the time, is useless. |

*cough*ScarfGar Hypnosis only has 70% accuracy*cough* Pokemon rarely revolves around accuracy, but more around effectiveness. |

ScarfGar lead works in OU. I do not think ScarfedBudew would work at all. |

It's your choice really, but I think it deserves a mention in Other Options. There's absolutely no difference between ScarfGar and Scarf Budew in terms of effectiveness of sleep moves (hypothetically). Also, no offense, but that stat chart is really ugly. Would you mind replacing it with this one?
