Unlike my last team where i said that my team didn't revolve around baton pass, this one does. Since LC is so faced paced and there are very few good baton passing options I decided to make it to where my chain would only take 3-4 turns to set up, focusing on offinsive power.

At a glance: Posted ImagePosted ImagePosted ImagePosted ImagePosted ImagePosted Image

Meowth (M) @ Focus Sash
Ability: Technician
EVs: 36 HP/236 Atk/196 Spd/36 SDef
Jolly nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Fake Out
- Bite
- Hypnosis
- U-turn

Meowth is one of the best leads in LC. Hes in the same sped tier as the fastest non-scarfed pokemon and he makes great use of that with moves like fake out and bite. Focus sash allows me to survive hits from random scarf leads and sleep them with hypnosis. U-turn lets me escape from diglett if its holding choice band or focus sash, but if its holding scarf then it will get the OK with earthquake.

Bronzor @ Oran Berry
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 220 HP/148 Def/68 SDef
Sassy nature (+SDef, -Spd)
- Stealth Rock
- Gyro Ball
- Light Screen
- Reflect
Good 'Ol bronzor. He just as effective in LC as bronzong is in standard, even though he is missing out on hypnosis and explosion. Stealth rock makes sure that my stat receivers don't get revenge killed by something holding focus sash. I picked reflect over earthquake because the extra protection I get from light screen and reflect is far more helpful to the team. Gyro ball is my "counter" to fast and frail sweepers.

Ledyba (M) @ Oran Berry
Ability: Early Bird
EVs: 196 HP/40 Att/76 Spd/196 SDef
Careful nature (+SDef, -SAtk)
- Swords Dance
- Baton Pass
- Bug Buzz/Reflect/substitute/Thunder Punch
- Agility
after some thought, i decided to replace venonat for another little bug, ledyba. although i will miss venonats ability to sleep my opponents, ledyba act kind of like gligars double. only more focused on special defence. i know that third slot is huge but each of them have their own usefulness. bug buzz for stab, reflect because, as SDS said, i won't always get the chance to you bronzor for it, sub can be really good but it is kind of situational in LC, and thunder punch will always do a minimum of 85% to staryu after sword dance and has a chance of OHKO.

Gligar (M) @ Oran Berry
Ability: Hyper Cutter
EVs: 236 HP/236 Def/36 Spd
Impish nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Baton Pass
- Swords Dance
- Earthquake
- Rock Polish
If reflect and light screen up substitute is next to impossible to get down. While agility from venonat helps both machop and houndour, sword dance only helps machop. I've often found myself starting the chain with gligar subbing up, a possible sword dance if i have reflect/light screen up , BPing to venonat, sleeping with venonat, and then just wiping out my opponents entire team with just machop or houndour.

Machop (M) @ Flame Orb
Ability: Guts
EVs: 36 HP/196 Atk/236 Spd/36 Def
Jolly nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Bullet Punch
- Close Combat
- Ice Punch
- Payback
Before I get started with machop I want give a huge shout out to cooper for making this awesome machop set. Machop is a very deadly threat in little cup. After guts activates my attack is a whopping 26 and a stellar 52 after swords dance. After one agility my speed comes to 28 which isn't bad but with the possibility of speed tie from a scarfed gastly bullet punch is just something you cannot pass up. I assume that I would use payback for more bulky ghosts like misdreavus and duskull but I have yet to run into them so we'll see if its really necessary. Machop is one of the hardest hitters in LC and once people see his capabilities I think he will be OU fast.

Houndour (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 240 Spd/232 SAtk
Timid nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Nasty Plot
- Fire Blast
- Hidden Power [Fighting]
- Dark Pulse
Houndour it my other hard hitter. Since I don't have anything that and up his sp. attack in the chain I wanted something that could improve itself out of the chain and still be a great member in the chain. Type wise, houndour works fantastic with my two BPers. Many people will throw a fire blast at venonat which houndour will gladly come into and get the 1.5 boost for fire blast. After one agility his speed becomes 34 out speeding most of the scarfers in LC. I gave him 2 hp IV's so he can keep 70 base power HP [fighting] and have 19 hp so he only take 1 damage from life orb.
************************************

Closing comments:
I think that baton passing in one of the most viable strategies in little cup. The lack of whirlwind, roar, and haze make it extreemly hard to get rid of boosted stats, and after enough stat ups, its GG. I have had a great amount of success with this team for I think two reasons 1) not many people expect baton pass and 2) I didn't make it evident from the start that I was using baton pass.

Thanks for reading and please be honest with your rate!

Is Reflect really that helpful? You have both Bronzor and Gligar that can take a physical hit, plus the Earthquake coverage was something I always found handy.

Instead of chaining SD and Agility, you could run them both on Gligar if you want.

I think a better recipient would be Cubone. Of course then you'd have half my team on yours, but Cubone can Swords Dance for himself plus still gets that great Attack without the constant burning.

The trick to BP in Little Cup is not dying. Gligar and Venonat are very good at this.

Anyway, good team. Have fun!

i see what your saying about reflect. the original idea was to make it so my two attackers would not receive much damage on the switch but i found that it would end before i got the chance to bring them in.

ill look at cuebone and see if he will work better with my team.

i don't know if i want gligar carrying both though. one of the best parts about having both of them on my team was that if one of them died the other can still BP something to either of the receivers. but ill try it out anyway.

i assume you mean to put cuebone over machop, right?

anyway, thanks for the rate!

Do not get rid of reflect. Reguardless of having pokemon to withstand Physical hits. They're ment for Baton Passing mainly. From facing this team before I know Machop is your prime recipient. His defenses wont hold up to things with sash that come back and attack chop. Makes it easier for him to survive.

I'm going to suggest either Rock Polish or U-Turn over substitute on Gligar. It doesn't really need subs and because Venonat is slightly frail and slow, as well Sleep Power has a 3% chance of missing, it may ruin Chop's chance. Other thing is if something is in that can take down chop reguardless but you can't hit with EQ, such as Tailow. Would be on the recieving end of the SDs.

The other possibility is replacing U-turn on meowth with return, this allows coverage of every pokemon excluding Shieldon for Neutral damage and allows Meowth to accept baton passes too, but even if you lack agility.

i don't think that venonat is frail. of course, hes not bulky enough to be called a wall but he still can take a hit or two.

about tailow, i don't know how much damage he can do to a max def / max hp gligar but strong hitters like that is another advantage of keeping reflect, so i just might. i don't really worry about sashers too much since when i bring bronzor out his primary objective is to get stealth rock out. reflect/light screen is just for additional team support but i don't always get to use it.

Well, 25/15/15 if Defensive Nature(Like yours) and 25/14/16 if Special Nature on Venonat.
I guess it could take some hits.

My Gligar runs both SD and Rock Polish, and I find it a great combo. I have two potential passers of Agility on my team, but it doesn't matter, because even if they go down, Gligar saves the day by showing up, priming the pump, and then passing on massive boosts to Eevee, who owns the hardcore. Sub may not help much with Gligar, as each sub pretty much gets oneshotted by anything that would willingly stay in on Gligar, and expecting a Light Screen and Reflect every battle is juuuust a bit too much to rely on.

Venonat only needs 116 for the 2 Def points, not 156. The leftover points is enough for you to pick up a SpA point.

Meowth only needs 36 points for the HP point. The leftovers is enough to pick up a point of Sp. Def.

Machop also only needs 36 points for HP, which leaves enough to pick up a point in Def.

Also, I've spotted a rather big issue- if you don't manage to get up your boost, Staryu pretty much destroys this team. Nothing resists Water at all, and your Meowth is the only thing that has any chance of matching speed with it. If Meowth goes down, a scarfed water-type attacker (or a Rain Dance team) just destroys this team. As for ways to deal with it, I'm not exactly sure. Also, if anyone even uses it, Perish Song is the ultimate counter to BP teams, ESPECIALLY ones that revolve around using Gligar. Misdreavus comes in with Levitate, then sings. Perish Song is passed by the BP, so you're forced to either break the chain willingly or hit for two turns and then die. It's doubly effective if it Mean Looks, as you're forced to BP the Song.

To my knowledge, no one uses Perish Song as the only use for it is in the relatively rare instance of a BP chain, and Roar does that faster. Mean Look / Perish Trapping is a waste of time in Little Cup when you could just be attacking things.

thanks for catching those evilbob.

SDS i don't know if i could pt myself in that kind of position but if it happens it might just be GG. I'll look into other BPers that could stand some chance in LC.

since everyone feels so strongly about it ill run rock polish on gligar over sub.
