move 2: X-Scissor
move 3: Rock Slide
move 4: Brick Break
item: Oran Berry/Life Orb
ability: Battle Armor
nature: Adamant
evs: 236 Atk/ 116 Def / 76 Spd / 36 SpD

[SET COMMENTS]

With a Rock Polish under its belt it hits 30 speed, which can outspeed any non-boosted Pokemon. Flinch hax on Rock Slide is also helpful against Pokemon like Gastly that will OHKO it. Jolly lets it keep from falling behind speed-wise. X-Scissor and Rock Slide are STAB, while Brick Break has excellent coverage and prevent Anorith from being walled by Steels. The added defense allows it to survive Aqua Jet.

[SET]
name: Swords Dance Sweeper
move 1: Swords Dance
move 2: X-Scissor
move 3: Rock Slide
move 4: Brick Break
item: Oran Berry/Life Orb
ability: Battle Armor
nature: Adamant
evs: 236 Atk/ 36 Def / 236 Spd

[SET COMMENTS]

With a Swords Dance under its belt it hits 38 attack. Combine that with 18 speed, and you have an offensive monster. Flinch hax on Rock Slide is also helpful against Pokemon like Gastly that will OHKO it. X-Scissor and Rock Slide are STAB, while Brick Break has excellent coverage and prevent Anorith from being walled by Steels.

[SET]
name: Support Anorith
move 1: Stealth Rock
move 2: Rapid Spin/Knock Off
move 3: Rock Slide
move 4: Protect
item: Oran Berry
ability: Battle Armor
nature: Adamant
evs: 76 Atk/196 Def/196 Sp.Def

[SET COMMENTS]
Anorith is, again, made to survive in this set. Rapid Spin lets him spin away Stealth Rock before setting up his own. Knock Off can ruin your opponent’s team if they rely too much on their items instead of spinning away rocks and Rock Slide is just to hit hard. Anorith isn’t really made for this role, so he doesn’t have that many support moves. Protect also helps with scouting. If you insist on it, he can also use Rain Dance, Sunny Day and Sandstorm. If he’s under Sandstorm, he also gets a lot more survivability against special attacks since he’s a Rock-type.

[SET]
name: Choice Anorith
move 1: Rock Slide
move 2: X-Scissor
move 3: Crush Claw/Body Slam
move 4: Brick Break
item: Choice Band/Scarf
ability: Battle Armor
nature: Adamant/Jolly
evs: 236 Atk/ 28 Def / 236 Spd

[SET COMMENTS]
Anorith with Choice. He can be a very powerful offensive force with either CB or Scarf, hitting 28-30 Atk or 25-27 Speed. The set is pretty straight forward-if you want a clean sweep, nothing can get the job done better than X-Scissor. 80 BP+STAB is nothing to scoff at. Super-effectively on Dark-, Grass- and Psychic-types is also good. Rock Slide gets spectacular coverage as well as a 30% flinch chance in exchange for 5 lower BP. Crush Claw has that nice 50% chance of -1 to opposing defense, but Body Slam has 30% Paralyze and 10 more BP. Your choice on which is better. Brick Break adds some more type coverage to Anorith’s repertoire.

[Other Options]

Rapid Spin is good if you want to use Anorith to set up for your team and can be combined with Stealth Rock. Knock Off also can help with a sweeper Anorith set, allowing him to stop opponent’s Life Orbs, Oran Berriers and Choice Items.

Screech reduces the opponent’s defense by 2 stages, which can be useful. But, if you ask me, you’re better of with Swords Dance. Crush Claw has a 50% chance to reduce the opponent’s defense by one stage which is tempting, but overall it just wastes a moveslot on a low-power move that has no super-effectivity or STAB.

Aerial Ace is alright for hitting Fighting-types such as Mankey, Machop and Croagunk, but overall it's not very good.

[EVs]
The way to go on Anorith is to get max attack and speed as well as boost one of his defenses for the sweeper sets. If you want support Anorith, boost his defenses and his offense.

[Opinion]
Anorith has a nice offensive typing that lets him hit a lot of types hard. He’s a speedy little bug and also has Rock Polish to let him go even faster. His attack is also base 95, nothing to scoff at and is further augmented by Swords Dance. His defenses are both base 50, meaning that he’s average there which allows him to take a hit or two before dying.

His movepool could be more diverse, since he really only has access to 6 types of attacks. 7, if you count Water Pulse and 9 if you count Hidden Power and Nature Power. His weakness to rock is a problem, since it is one of the most common offensive types in the game and is everywhere in LC. Stealth Rock also hurts. Water is also an issue, largely because many Little Cup Pokemon carry a water attack paired with a Normal or Dragon attack.

Anorith is an often overlooked Pokémon; however, with adequate team support he can easily sweep or aid the team.

[Counters]

Gastly and Abra are both faster than unboosted Anorith and can come in and OHKO it if they're Sashed or revenge kill it. Croagunk resists both of its STAB and Brick Break and has priority Mach Punch and Sucker Punch to beat the more offensively-oriented Anorith. Tentacool resists his Bug STAB and has a super-effective STAB on Anorith which will usually KO him. Porygon can take any hit that isn't named Brick Break from unboosted Anorith and proceed to either OHKO him with Thunderbolt or Ice Beam, or to use Trick Room and then hit him with one of the previously mentioned moves

Diglett is faster than non-Scarf, non-Rock Polish versions and can get a revenge kill on it with Earthquake or Super-Effective Rock Slide. It can also Sucker Punch Rock Polish versions, which will get a 1-2 hit KO. Cranidos, while slower and easily KO'd, can get an easy KO on Anorith with Stone Edge or Head Smash, both being super-effective. Any Fighting-type resists both of his STABs and can get a good hit on him because of their high attacks, allowing for either a counter or a revenge kill, depending on the fighting-type.

Poliwag is faster and can get an SE Surf or Waterfall on Anorith and KO him. He can also Hypnosis and Belly Drum, letting him run rampant with the other team members. Krabby has high defense to withstand a hit or two and then hit back with SE Crabhammer for an OHKO. Omanyte and Kabuto are both good choices to beat Anorith under the rain, but they need to look out for Brick Break, which almost all Anorith sets carry. Buizel's +nature, max EV'd Aqua Jet 2KO's Anorith, regardless of defensive EVs and nature.

Other suggestions to the Counters list or really anything else in the analysis are appreciated

I'm sure there's a reason for this, but are you aware that you're missing a move in the first set? I mean, even if you get perfect type coverage with the first three, you should probably just throw some kind of filler in.... Also, I believe you were looking to eric's Porygon analysis for an example, as Anorith does not currently have access to Download, and Modest probably isn't the right nature to use.

Second, I'd recommend combining the first two sets. They're exactly the same except for what stats they boost, so you might just want to call the set "Stat Upper" and put RP and SD in the same slot.

Third, in Other Options, why are you listing things that are bad? I don't particularly care how good Slash would be if Anorith were Absol. Just list things that are useful in certain situations, but not good enough to be listed with the main sets.

Thanks for the advice on the set combination, as well as pointing out that I forgot to change the nature and ability. That was a pretty big mistake. The missing move was a typographical error, and a large one at that, so...>-<
Also, I added a Choice set.

Don't list the Other Options, then do paragraphs on them. Just do the paragraphs. Same with Counters; that style is a hold over from RS.

Counters have to be able to switch in for close to nothing and immediately threaten. Cranidos dies to pretty much anything Anorith carries.

Brick Break is way more important than a Normal move because Steels completely wall sets without it. It should be on as many sets as possible.

Don't list his entire physical movepool in Other Options, only the moves that don't completely suck. Slash and Cross Poison are useless, as is Fury Cutter.

For LC you kinda need to list things that can switch in on 1-2 moves and beat it, and those that can revenge kill it.

Added Revenge Killers and some more Pokemon in general to the Counters section.

Back. Will see in the next week or so how much I can contribute.

Split up the first set, if you are using RP, you only need 15 speed, so you can go Adamant instead

Swords Dance needs max + jolly.

You don't need a set with RP and SD, since you won't get 2 free turns in LC.

Other options is pretty weak atm. Metal Claw doesn't need mention since its not usuable with Brick Break already there. Rapid spin has already been mentioned and Aerial Ace is a decent option since Fighting resists both of Anorith's STABs.

The first set has a serious case of slash-itis. Double Edge doesn't deserve a mention at all if you don't have a way to reduce the recoil, and Body Slam, with no additional type coverage given, isn't worth it for the 30%. Dixie's right, take Metal Claw out of OO, and put Body Slam there if you think it's a viable move. I also noticed Crush Claw while looking through serebii, which might deserve a mention with its 50% chance to lower defense.

Also, correct me if I'm mistaken, but I don't believe that Rapid Spin and Knock Off are legal on the same set. The only pokemon who could possibly have both moves is Tentacruel, who is in the same egg group as Anorith, meaning HE'D need to get them from somewhere, and he can't, because the combo isn't legal on him in the first place.

Yeah, ditch everything but Brick Break, which is needed to cover Steels. Double-Edge doesn't hit anything harder than a STAB X-Scissor or Rock Slide, neither of which have recoil. Body Slam doesn't give any coverage at all, and the 30% paralysis chance isn't worth having Aron and Shieldon come in and ruin your party. And Rapid Spin is a godawful idea on a boosting sweeper, especially since free turn = Anorith dead.

Metal Claw is a horrible move, and Crush Claw, while having an interesting side effect with a decent proc rate, doesn't come anywhere near the power needed on a sweeper like Anorith.

EV-wise, the Swords Dance and Rock Polish sets should be separated. The Rock Polish set should be built a little bulkier, since it doesn't need as much speed. The Rock Polish set should have at max 15 speed, which lets it put the rest into defense to avoid priority that would take it down. At that point, it's got 30 speed after a Rock Polish, which beats all scarfers except Diglett and Elekid, and 20 attack, which is pretty brutal.

The second set is utterly useless, as Anorith will never get 2 free turns in LC. Ditch it entirely.

How does SD make you outspeed stuff?

Change the whole AA paragraph to "Aerial Ace is an alternative option if you want to hit Fighting-types for super effective damage, but it's a rather average option." You don't need so many explanations.
