Well, I decided I wanted to start playing in the Little Cup metagame, so I made a team for it. This team is a Doubles Team. Any suggestions are appreciated, since I’m pretty new to competitive Pokemon. Main Team: Pair One: Gastly@Life Orb Ability: Levitate EVs: 76 Def/196 Sp. Atk/196 Spd Modest Nature (+Sp. Atk, -Atk) -Hypnosis -Shadow Ball -Thunderbolt -Energy Ball This Gastly is to complement Rhyhorn as well as cover weaknesses. His Energy Ball hits opposing water and ground-types for super-effective damage and is used when paired with Rhyhorn. It was chosen over Thunderbolt because of its super-effectivity against ground-types, which can also get a STAB super-effective attack on Rhyhorn. Shadow Ball gets a nice STAB. Hypnosis can shut down an opponent. He has Life Orb because Gastly’s EVs are a simple rush&go to KO as many Pokes as he can without dying. Thunderbolt has nice type coverage and hits water-types for more than Energy Ball, notably Mantyke. Counters Wooper, Buizel, Larvitar and Chinchou. Hypnosis is also useful to shut down counters and sweepers. Tailow@Flame Orb Ability: Guts EVs: 36 HP/236 Atk/236 Spd Jolly Nature (+Spd, -Sp.Atk) -Facade -Protect -Roost -Pluck Tailow is a physical sweeper to take out what Gastly can’t and serves as his partner. He protects on the first turn while Gastly puts a counter to sleep or attacks. Once Guts is on, Tailow proceeds to use Facade and Pluck. Facade gets STAB plus Guts bonus, as well as having base 140 during the burn, making it the main offense. Pluck is an odd choice, since it seems to situational. Well, in the Little Cup environment, berries are the most common item, the usually-seen ones being Oran (heals 10 HP, which is 1/2 on most Pokes), Liechi, Salac, Petaya and Lum. This doubles Pluck's power AND gives Taillow the benefit of the berry, making it a force to be reckoned with once it's picked up a Liechi and a Salac boost. This also gets rid of the berry, making the opponent squirm once their Salac-reliant Porygon dies from lack of speed. Lum Berry does nothing to Taillow except double its Pluck's power, as well as remove the opponent's Hypnosis guard. When necessary, it uses Roost to regain HP lost from burn damage. Pair Two: Dratini@Lum Berry Ability: Shed Skin EVs: 28 HP/244 Atk/36 SpAtk/196 Spd Jolly Nature (+Spd, -Sp. Atk) -Dragon Dance -Outrage -Fire Blast -Waterfall Dratini isn’t a very often-seen Pokemon on the Little Battling scene, or so I’ve been told. Mine is a pretty simple adaptation of Dragonite. It gets a Dragon Dance and then uses Waterfall. If it needs to, it can resort to Outrage. Its partner’s Helping Hand is very useful for helping Outrage take down powerful opponents, notably Aron because of its high defenses and Dragon resistance. Fire Blast helps hit Steel-types and is pretty standard on Dratini. I would like to keep the nature, since this one has already been bred, and Dratini eggs are a pain to hatch, but if the change is absolutely necessary I will make it. Eevee@Chesto Berry Ability: Adaptability EVs: 236 HP/236 Atk/28 Def Adamant Nature (+Atk, -Sp. Atk) -Quick Attack -Helping Hand -Return -Rest This guy’s whole purpose is to Helping Hand Dratini’s Outrages and Waterfalls. He can also use Quick Attack to finish off a weakened opponent so that Dratini’s Outrage will hit the stronger one. Rest is to help it stay alive, while Return is purely filler, since I don’t have a Eevee with Wish and my Wi-Fi doesn’t work. However, if Eevee gets the chance, then it will by all means use an Adaptability STABed Return to KO a slow Pokemon. Pair Three Anorith@Muscle Band Ability: Battle Armor EVs: 236 Atk/28 Def/236 Spd Adamant Nature (+Atk, -Sp. Atk) -X-Scissor -Swords Dance -Rock Slide -Rock Polish Anorith is late game clean-up. After Dratini and Gastly have devastated their team with sweeping, Anorith comes in to pick up the last couple Pokemon. With a remarkable base 75 speed, he can outspeed most Pokemon that are left after a single Rock Polish. After one Swords Dance and a Rock Polish, Anorith becomes almost unstoppable. Smoochum@Salac Berry Ability: Forewarn EVs: 236 Sp. Atk/236 Spd Timid Nature (+Spd, Atk) -Ice Beam -Psychic -Substitute -Calm Mind Smoochum has great STAB in the form of Ice, as well as a high base 85 Special Attack, tying Porygon. With Timid Nature and Calm Mind, she can pack a wallop. With Ice’s wide type coverage, Smoochum can score Super-Effective on five types. Shadow Ball picks of Super-effective damage on Ghost-types and Psychics. Psychic gets STAB and helps out with Fighting Pokemon. Her EVs are fairly basic, a normal sweeper spread. Subs: Rhyhorn@Oran Berry Ability: Lightningrod EVs: 116 HP/236 Atk/156 Def Brave Nature (+Atk, -Spd) -Megahorn -Stone Edge -Earthquake -Curse Rhyhorn’s purpose is basically to kill opposing Pokemon while soaking up physical hits. He has a high base defense for a Little Cup Pokemon as well as very high HP. His weakness to water and grass-type moves is his major flaw. Oran Berry was included to help out with strong attacks that manage to get through to him. His Lightningrod ability lets him take Thunderbolts aimed at either Gastly or Mantyke, his two partner options. His EV distribution is very straightforward: Since he uses Curse, he doesn’t need speed. Since he’ll still be easily KO’d by most special attacks, he didn’t need any Special Defense. Earthquake and Stone Edge are givens, seeing that they’re a powerful offensive duo and both receive STAB. Megahorn is for dealing with pesky Grass-Types that receive STAB on moves that can easily kill Rhyhorn. Curse helps out when Rhyhorn is up against a pair of physical attackers, allowing him a nice boost in his already-impressive attack and defense stats. Mantyke@Leftovers Ability: Water Absorb EVs: 196 Sp.Atk/196 Sp.Def/118 Spd Modest Nature (+Sp.Atk, -Atk) -Hydro Pump -Aqua Ring -Ice Beam -Agility Mantyke is made to Rhyhorn’s partner exclusively. This is due to Mantye’s glaring 4x Lightning weakness, which Rhyhorn’s ability negates. Mantyke can also get rid of Grass-types using Ice Beam. Its basic strategy is to use Agility and then attack with Hydro Pump or Ice Beam. Leftovers can give it back its health, since it can take a special hit better than any other Little Cup Pokemon. Criticisms are welcome, since I have a feeling my team is quite bad. Edited by Vader, Jun 26 2008, 05:42 PM.

First of all, your EVs are inefficient as at level 5, you do not always need 252 EVs to max a stat so you are wasting EVs. Check out this guide for more help http://s1.zetaboards.com/The_Little_Cup_Forum/topic/374147/ If you are using this team on Shoddy, for singles, Helping Hand is useless on Eevee, replace it with bite, and give it something over rest, for example sub and add leichi berry. dont start with taillow since you are walled by bronzor starters. Thunderbolt>Dream Eater for Gastly to hit Murkrow. Also use Sub on Smoochum to activate Salac and avoid status, take out shadow ball in the process. Use fire blast over Waterfall for Dratini too. |

Thanks for the EV article link. It was helpful. Also, this is a doubles team for Wi-Fi play, so I'm not worried about Eevee's Helping Hand. The Taillow, Gastly and Smoochum advice is also good. I took out TWave instead of Waterfall on Dratini. Was this a good choice or a bad one? |

i think that most people here play shoddy little cup and, thus, probably wouldn't be extra skilled in little cup double battles. i wasn't even aware that there was a LC Wi-Fi community, or even a doubles LC community. |

I didn't know anything about Little Cup except that it existed until earlier today. I just saw PBR footage of double Little battles, so I thought I might give it a try. |
