[SET] name: Lead-off / Revenge Killer move 1: Hypnosis move 2: Fake Out move 3: U-Turn move 4: Bite / Return item: Life Orb ability: Technician evs: 76 HP / 236 Atk / 196 Spd nature: Jolly [SET COMMENTS]
Hypnosis from 19 Speed is the best reason to use Meowth. Technician Fake Out with STAB, even off of 14 Attack (18 after Life Orb), is going to put a good number of Pokémon in pain after a kill. Fake Out also serves as a priority move, which is mandatory in Little Cup. U-Turn lets Meowth flee while doing some damage, and Bite is to revenge kill Gastly with a Technician Dark move from a higher Speed. The flinch rate is also handy. Return is just a solid STAB move, but you won't use it much.
[SET] name: Nasty Plot sweeper move 1: Nasty Plot move 2: Hypnosis move 3: Thunderbolt move 4: Icy Wind / Water Pulse / HP Fighting item: Focus Sash / Life Orb ability: Technician evs: 116 HP / 196 SAtk / 196 Spd nature: Timid [SET COMMENTS]
Meowth is a great sweeper thanks to Nasty Plot, Technician and excellent Speed. Hypnosis should buy Meowth time to Nasty Plot, bringing his Special Attack up to a respectable 26 (33 after Life Orb). Unfortunately Swift is illegal on this set with Nasty Plot.
Thunderbolt is your main attack and hits a wide amount of OU for at least neutral damage. Water Pulse gets a Technician boost, has a decent Confusion rate, and deals with Rhyhorn and Shieldon excellently. Icy Wind also gets a Technician boost (to 82 Base Power), is nearly unresisted with Thunderbolt, and slows any Scarfers down to your level or lower. Hidden Power can really be any type, but Fighting is the best here as it takes down Munchlax. If you're using Hidden Power Fighting, Icy Wind or Shadow Ball probably works better in the second slot.

With Hidden Power Fighting, you'll want 30 Def / 28 SAtk / 30 SDef / 30 Spd. Thus your EVs should be 36 HP / 4 Def / 212 SAtk / 4 SDef / 200 Spd.
[[CHOICE BAND]] [OTHER OPTIONS]
Last Resort on a Life Orb set could work, but Meowth's Attack isn't all that special and other things could really do that better. And it's a gimmick, as Choice Band Return is almost as powerful but you have to essentially be Choiced into a Normal move 100% of the time.
[OPINION]
Meowth is so cool. He's got Technician to boost all of his oddball attacks like Fake Out and Bite, plus access to a nifty seeping move in Hypnosis. Nasty Plot users are fairly hard to come by; combine with Hypnosis with high Speed and you get pain. Meowth should be considered for any team thanks to his Fake Out, Hypnosis, and Nasty Plot talents.
[COUNTERS]
Bronzor walls Meowth extremely well and strikes back with a powerful Gyro Ball. Misdreavus can Calm Mind up with the Nasty Plot set, has high Special Defense to shrug off Water Pulses, and Hidden Power Fighting to own Meowth. The revenge killer is walled by Rhyhorn and Geodude pretty badly.
Edited by Chris, Aug 14 2008, 10:57 PM.

Dont use phrases like "stops the shit". We want this to be a user friendly place and want Little Cup to seem that way. Add in a stat chart and get a picture from here: http://pokemonelite2000.com |

I wasn't finished with the analyses when I put them up. I'd appreciate it if you didn't post 5 or 6 times telling me to do something that I actually was the first to do back on Smogon 0_o. |

I'm not 100% certain, but I think that the only way for Meowth to learn Swift is from an Emerald Move Tutor, which would make it illegal with Technician and Nasty Plot. |

It's not illegal with Technician, but it's probably illegal with Nasty Plot. I thought I found that Meowth learned Swift some other way, so I'm trying to figure out what that way was. Maybe an obscure event or something. Swift isn't illegal with Technician though, I think. At least, it's not on Persian or something. Gah, I'll figure this stuff out soon. |

uh Meowth has a 50% chance of gaining the technician ability upon transfering so it would be legal. sorry if Im wrong but im fairly certain that it works that way for all d/p pokemon. |

Someone already tested it on Smogon, and yes, if the Pokemon has a different ability that it can get in D/P, it has a 50% chance of changing to that ability. |

I'm 98% certain that only works when they evolve. |

Technician and Swift is illegal on Meowth (not on Persian). Abilities only change after evolution, and Swift isn't a breed move. Put Thunderbolt, Shadow Ball/Dark Pulse, or an HP(60) in the place of Swift. |

Thought of this this morning: you may want to add Shuppet to the counters list. It doesn't completely wall the NP set, but a Shuppet lead vs. Meowth lead will resist Hypnosis (Insomnia), Fake Out, and WP to a point, all the while nailing you with things. It can also Trick you a Choice Band or something. |

Shock Wave is Technician-boosted and can provide decent coverage against Mantyke on a Nasty Plot set, so it should get a mention. |
