MOVE LEGALITY IN LITTLE CUP
(possibly WIP)

As Little Cup is played at Level 5, some move combinations are illegal with each other. This guide will attempt to cover these scenarios. Please note that impossible breeding combinations such as Hypnosis + Nasty Plot Zubat are already assumed illegal.

GENDERLESS POKEMON

Genderless Pokémon lack the ability to breed unless it is with a Ditto. Thus, they do not have egg moves and lack the ability to pass on level-up moves to their offspring. As a consequence, genderless Pokémon in Little Cup cannot have any level-up move that is learned beyond Level 5. Take for example a Porygon. Its staple move is Tri Attack. However, it learns it at a higher level than 5, and is genderless. Thus, Tri Attack Porygon is illegal at Level 5. Bronzor is in the same boat: its evolution, Bronzong, is seldom seen without Hypnosis, which Bronzor learns at Level 7 and thus is illegal in Little Cup.

D/P INTRODUCED MOVES

Moves, both egg and Level-up, that were introduced in the fourth generation moves, and are learned after Level 5, are illegal together with 3rd gen Move Tutor moves.

For example, Mankey with Ice Punch and Close Combat is illegal: if it was taught Ice Punch in Emerald, it couldn't been bred with Close Combat; and if it was bred with Close Combat, it can't go to Emerald to receive Ice Punch.

3rd GENERATION MOVE TUTOR/OTHER GAME SPECIAL MOVES

These moves are illegal together with any move introduced in D/P that is an egg move or is learned after Level 5. They are also illegal with any new ability introduced in D/P, since the ability change only occurs during evolution. For example, Ice Punch(3rd gen tutor) + Close Combat (4th gen level-up) Mankey is illegal. Pickup Meowth with Swift is illegal, but Technician Swift Meowth is not.

Little Cup Pokémon that can use a move that comes from Pokémon XD and is caught in that game at a level higher than 5 are illegal with that move. In the event they are able to use it, it will be illegal together with any egg or level-up move.

Special moves from Pokémon Box eggs are illegal with any level-up or egg move, as they come from a pre-made egg that hatches at Level 5. This is the reason why Belly Drum + Extremespeed Zigzagoon is illegal; as Extremespeed comes from an egg from Pokémon Box, and it hatches at Level 5. For Belly Drum to be available to that Zigzagoon, it would be needed for two Linoone with Belly Drum to breed, but that egg cannot hatch with Extremespeed.

EVENT MOVES

Event moves are illegal together with any Egg Move or Level-up move learned after Level 5. If said event took place in D/P, they are also illegal with any 3rd generation move.

I think that some event Pokemon (with event moves) may be given away at a higher level than 5 rendering them impossible.
Smogon's list of event moves does not show the level that they are given away at unfortunately so it would be hard to tell what would need banning.

And there is a way around the 100 evs max at Lv. 5 for Pokemon with ADV only moves so long as the Pokemon can be caught at lv. 4 or lower and has no egg moves.

"In the event they areable to use it..."
Needs a space in it.

"Thus, they do not
have egg moves..."
Has a extra line.

Someone needs to get the box trick tested at Lv. 5.

Back. Will see in the next week or so how much I can contribute.

I think that we should make have a sector for illegal combinations/moves in each pokemon analysis or incoporate. At some point it will be very useful to have a reference to all of it in one thread.

Then I'll do that in the analyses I made; I suggest everyone else does so.

I'll correct stuff in a bit.

The box trick works, so the EVs line should just be removed.

There's a 50% chance of a Pokemon that can have a dual-ability in D/P but not in Adv changing abilities when it migrates to Pal Park, so Swift/Technician Meowth is legal.

SDS's official henchman

the ability switch only happens if you evolve the pokemon. Since all pokemon in Little Cup are base/pre-form pokemon, they can't get the ability switch

IIRC, genderless pokemon bred with ditto can retain level up moves?

Genderless Pokemon can't get Level-Up moves from breeding because only one of the parents have the moves.

You need to add that XD moves are also illegal on these Pokémon.

What would be nice for this would be a list of genderless Pokemon, and say "these Pokemon can not use moves that they learn above Lv. 5".

Also all XD Pokemon are caught above Lv. 5 (the lowest is Lv. 10) so the XD section should be changes to reflect that.
Some event moves are illegal entirely (Howl Charmander was given away at Lv. 40).

Something I've noticed is that a few usable pokemon were given away by the New York Pokemon Center with the move Wish, notably Lickitung and Exeggcute. These pokemon were hatched at Lv. 5 in Emerald, and cannot have any of their egg moves or level-up moves from either generation. I think that should be noted somewhere.

Bronzor, Baltoy, Voltorb, Magnemite, Beldum (lol one move), Porygon, Staryu. I think that is all the genderless Pokemon that can be used in LC.

eric asked me to look this guide over after compiling all the Little Cup specific illegal combos, so here I am.

Minor notes to begin with:
-Not that there was any way to tell in June, but now that Platinum's out, the Mankey and Meowth examples should be replaced, since Platinum introduced elemental punch tutors and a Swift tutor among others.
-4th-gen only abilities + 3rd-gen only moves are illegal on all unevolved Pokémon regardless of level. This factoid is still worth mentioning, but the combinations are not illegal solely because of Little Cup's restrictions.

The LC-specific illegal combos can be categorized as follows, I think.

-Any move that can only be obtained as a DPPt level-up move at a level higher than 5 + 3rd-gen-only move tutor (the most common)

-Any level up move that can't be obtained at L5 or under for genderless Pokémon

-All event moves from Pokémon obtained at levels higher than 5 (mostly applies to XD)

-Event moves obtained at level 5 or less + any level up move that can't be obtained at L5 or under

-Combinations of level-up moves that cannot be learned by both a male and a female parent (applies for Nidoran M and all-female Pokémon that can't breed with Smeargle)

-Expanding on the previous category for all-female Pokémon, any combination of level-up moves and egg moves that no viable father can learn (e.g. no male Pokémon that can breed with Chansey can learn Refresh (level) and Gravity (egg) to pass to a <L5 Happiny)

-For Pokémon with moves learned via level-up in DPPt and by breeding only (or event only) in the 3rd generation, any combination involving these moves that is legal now but illegal in the 3rd generation (mostly egg move incompatibility) in conjunction with 3rd-gen only tutors (e.g. Krabby used to only be able to learn Slam via breeding, but in DPPt it can get it via level-up. Slam + Amnesia is legal if the Krabby is bred in the 4th generation, but not in the 3rd, so you can't get 3rd-gen tutors on a Slam + Amnesia Krabby.)

Sorry I worded these poorly (especially at the end), but I hope I got the points across.

Hopefully if SwinubToupee gets a look at this, these concepts can be put into words better.
