Shinx
[SET] name: Choice move 1: Spark move 2: Ice Fang move 3: Crunch move 4: Return item: Choice Band/Choice Scarf ability: Intimidate nature: Jolly/Adamant evs: 236 Atk / 4 Def / 4 SpD / 236 Spe [SET COMMENTS] Jolly is the preferable nature, but Adamant works well if an extra kick is needed. Jolly and Choice Scarf beats +Speed Scarf Cacnea for the Ice Fang OHKO and ties +Attack Scarf Cranidos if you feel lucky. Other than that, it is a pretty straight forward choice user. Hit and run. [SET] name: Howl move 1: Howl move 2: Spark move 3: Crunch move 4: Ice Fang item: Focus Sash/Life Orb ability: Intimidate nature: Jolly evs: 236 Atk/236 Spe [SET COMMENTS] Focus Sash ensures that you gat at least one Howl, but this is not the greatest set in the world due to Shinx's speed. [SET] name: Endure move 1: Endure move 2: Spark move 3: Ice Fang move 4: Howl item: Salac Berry ability: Intimidate nature: Jolly evs: 30 HP/240 Atk/240 Spe [SET COMMENTS] The lack of Flail hurts this set, but Salac Berry raises its speed enough to pull of something of a sweep. Howl when you can and Endure to activate Salac Berry. [OTHER OPTIONS] Shinx can become a sleep absorber with Sleep Talk. Return is a good option for hitting things for neutral, but Electric/Ice/Dark is rather good. A mixed set is possible with the right Hidden Power and possibly Thunder, but Shinx doesn't have great special attack to utilize because of its poor speed as well. Toxic is an option if the rest of your team needs some support. [EVS] Always maximize Attack and Speed, as they are really the only things you are going to use. Shinx isn't going to be very bulky no matter how much you put into defenses, and it will be gone unless it comes in on a not very effective attack. [OPINION] Shinx is great for late game. Take out all of the things faster than it, and it has a good chance at a sweep. Be wary though, as if your scarfed, it will soon be very evident once you outspeed their Cranidos. However, lack of a strong STAB attack hurts it as much as its evolution, Luxray. It also needs to spend a lot of EVs to max out his stats, leaving no room for other stats to be improved. Its mediocre Speed is what hurts it the most, with no reliable method of boosting it but using Salac Berry. Shinx should be handled with care, as it is difficult to switch in due to it having few resistances and mediocre defenses. [COUNTERS] Wooper generally handles Shinx quite handly with its great typing. Munchlax survives just about anything barring critical hits and can OHKO back with Earthquake, as Shinx has no fighting moves outside of Hidden Power. Cranidos outspeeds every set except Choice Scarf (unless it is scarfed itself or has Rock Polished) and OHKOs with, well anything. As always, Diglett gets a free revenge kill on Shinx. Chinchou and Magnemite take almost nothing from the elemental fangs and can threaten Shinx with Surf and a Hidden Power respectively. Edited by eric the espeon, Apr 15 2009, 04:27 PM.

I'd say remove the "Don't stay in on Cranidos.Ever." and rephrase as "Cranidos will OHKO Shinx if it ever decides to stay in, so be wary of this." Same goes for the Opinios section regarding Cranidos. I'd also remove the "Say 'gg'" part for "and Shinx will have a good chance to sweep". |

Tangela needs to be removed from counters. Also, the stat chart needs to be updated: Base Stats not ending in 4 have a Max that is 3 points higher than their Min, and a Max+ that is 4 points higher than their Min, and Base Stats ending in 4 have a Max that is 4 points higher, and a Max+ that is 5 points higher. |

Took Tangela out of counters. I don't know about the stats thing, that's just what Shoddy outputted when I did min and max stats. Me or a mod can fix it if I get more feedback. |

About the stats, go look at the stats guide in the Guides subforum. That'll tell you all you need to know. |

Its always good to check the shoddy output as well, if it gives a different result than the guide please post full info in the guide so it can be investigated. |

Thunder Fang has _less_ accuracy and _less_ paralysis chance. There's absolutely no reason to use it at all. |

Thanks, and fix'd. I could've sworn that TFang had more chance of paralysis, but once again, I was proven wrong. |

Munchlax isn't really a counter for his Defense ain't all that great, but he works in a pinch. Wooper is the best counter IMO. |

You should change the EVs of Choice and Howl sets to be: 236 Attack, 4 Defense, 236 Speed and 4 Special Defense. The Attack and Speed EVs are the same obviously, and the added 4 EVs in each Defense actually yields Shinx a free +1 in both of them, increasing its chances of surviving generic attacks for no cost. As for the Endure set, you should probably just go with the EVs I just stated above. The 4 additional Attack and Speed EVs on your current set do nothing to help Shinx, along with the 30 HP EVs, which fail to create even a +1 bonus to HP due to Shinx's base 45 HP, which would require him to invest a minimum of 76 EVs to be effective. All of these calculations assume that Shinx has max IVs. Also, I see no reason to use even suggest Rivalry as an option on any of the three sets; it is unreliable, occasionally crippling and pales in comparison to the excellent Intimidate. With Shinx's two resistances and unimpressive defenses, it is often hard pressed to switch in without Intimidate, and, thanks to its lackluster Speed, it is also a rather mediocre revenge killer regardless of set. As such, Intimidate all the way. Lastly, you might want to specify, perhaps more so for clarity than for anything else, just what Chinchou and Magnemite use to "threaten Shinx's life" when they arrive on a favorable switch in. For Chinchou, that would probably be STAB Surf (and possibly Ice Beam, assuming Chinchou's trainer predicts a switch to, say, a Grass type). Magnemite would threaten Shinx with any of his commonly used Hidden Powers (all of which would hit neutral on Shinx), as both of his primary STAB moves, Thunderbolt/Flash Cannon, are resisted handily by Shinx. |

Very good advice though, the analysis that we are working currently on are in this forum: http://s1.zetaboards.com/The_Little_Cup_Forum/forum/538495/ Ill quickly edit in those EV spreads and ability changes, even though this is an old analysis. |
