[STAT=Yanma,65/65/45/75/45/95,Bug,Flying]193[/STAT] [SET] name: Lead / Sweeper move 1: Air Slash move 2: Bug Buzz move 3: Protect move 4: Hidden Power Ground / Hidden Power Fighting / Hypnosis item : Focus Sash / Life Orb ability: Speed Boost nature: Timid / Modest evs: 236 SpA / 236 Spe [SET COMMENTS]
Yanma's lead set is one of the most effective sets it can run, as Stealth Rock can't be in play and it can be used as a early game sweeper. Air Slash is it most important move here as it gives Yanma a powerful STAB attack and has a nifty 30% chance of flinching the the foe. Bug Buzz is also a reliable attack to Yanma as it helps take down Grass-, Dark-, and Psychic-types, as well as doing more damage than Air Slash.

Protect is very important as well, as it provides a free turn to activate Yanma's ability to get a free Speed boost, and will help against Fake out leads such as Meowth and Aipom. After a Speed boost Yanma is able to outspeed most of the common scarf users with a Timid nature.

Hidden Power Ground allows Yanma to put some huge dents in to Pokemon and is able to OHKO most Rock-types and Electric-types. Hidden Power Fighting will allow Yanma to dent Mucnhlax, while also hitting Rock-types and Dark-types.

Hippopotas, Bronzor, Gligar, and sometimes Phanpy all fall victim to Hypnosis, and then that will allow to stop them from setting up Stealth Rock and gives you a chance to bring in an appropriate counter for them.
[SET] name: Choice Specs move 1: Bug Buzz move 2: Air Slash move 3: Shadow Ball move 4: HP Ground/HP Ice/HP Fight item : Choice Specs ability : Speed Boost nature : Timid/Modest evs : 236SpA/236Spe [SET COMMENTS]
This Set is pretty simple, it can work either ways for a mid game or late game sweeper. After one Speed boost PLUS the Specs Boost, this Yanma can become devastatingly strong. Bug Buzz and Air Slash are it main moves in its arsenal providing a STAB boost and both are able to OHKO Meditite

Shadow Ball is mainly for the ghost types, OHKOing all the ghost types and Psychic types. HP Ground will help with its weakness towards electric and rock types, while HP Ice helps with Gligar, Diglett and Co. HP Fighting is able to 2HKO Lax with ease on Modest Nature.
[Other Options]
Yanma doesn't have a very wide movepool so gets little Options. Ancient Power could be used over any of the Hidden Power Moves, but Yanma will lose a lot of coverage. Signal Beam could be a choice over Bug Buzz, but it loses some BP but gains a 10% chance of confusion.

Roost or Giga Drain could be useful, as Roost helps the Lead/Early Sweeper set keep on recovering from Life Orb Recoil or damage received from foe to keep own going. Giga Drain on the other hand allows you to inflict damage and still be able to make a decent recover of HP, Giga Drain can be very useful against water, rock and ground types as it will be easier to recover HP. Quick attack is also a great OO as it provides Yanma with priority to sometimes revenge kill in a late game.
[EVs]
The 236 EV spread on speed allows Yanma to get a speed of 19, on timid it gets a speed 20. But speed doesn't really matter to Yanma because of its ability "Speed boost." This will allow you to outspeed Missy and Gligar and then hit with a near OHKO with Shadow Ball to Misdreavus or a OHKO to Gligar.
[Opinions]
Some of the reasons why Yanma was moved into the LC Uber tier, was because of the combination of its stats and ability.

With special attack of abase power of 75 along with the ability of speed boost, Yanma can become a great early/mid/late game sweeper. If you opponent doesn't carry any Priority moves, Yanma will have a chance to sweep the entire team with ease.

Another great option for Yanma is the reversal set, though this may be very difficult to be used(That's why its here), though it would be useful after all opposing priority enemies are eliminated. This should be the set used for it though, Substitute / Reversal / Return / Aerial Ace @ Liechi w/ Speed Boost, Liechi along with Reversal is a great offensive combination.

Reversal's base power increases based on the Yanma's HP. 1% Being the maximum. Then Liechi + Speed will top things off while gaining speed and a huge physical attacking power.

Another option could the Sleep N Sweep set, which Yanma will rock the foe to sleep with Hypnosis giving it time to hit it hard with double STAB moves like Bug Buzz and Air Slash.

Another thing is that it cannot be revenge killed by the most popular form of revenge killing; Choice Scarf, and with decent defenses, base SpA, and coverage, Yanma is definitely worth consideration for any Ubers team. Since it carries the a great a ability; Speed Boost.

Along with a move like Protect it can gain a free turn to boost it's speed, which will leave the Choice Scarf users for a nasty surprise when then come in and think they can outspeed, and ends up receiving a STAB Air Slash or Bug Buzz.
[Counters]
Yanma is almost impossible to stop once it obtains a speed boost from its ability. Yanma can be taken down by the use of priority moves such as Bullet Punch and Quick Attack. But its main counters are definitely the ice types. Sneasel, Snover and Swinub are probably its main threats as they are the most common used Ice Types with Ice Shard. An Ice Shard from them can result in a near OHKO or a OHKO.

Bronzor can be a pretty good counter to Yanma. The Trick Room Bronzor will completely wall Yanma, using its own speed against him then hitting with a high powered Gyro Ball. Munchlax is also a notable counter. Restalk Lax is a perfect counter and the Wall Lax set is a damn good one too, Munchlax is able to take special attacks from Yanma and then reply with a hard hitting Return or Body slam or even a devastating Double edge.
Edited by Hybrid, Jul 25 2009, 03:08 PM.

Hypnosis and Quick Attack should be in OO for obvious reasons. Sleep is useful and so is priority |

Before I have a long time to go through this, I'll just point out your stat chart is wrong. Yanma has 75 SpD, not 95. 95 would be ridiculous... Another quick thing, when you say: "Protect is VERY IMPORTANT", take out the caps. Edited by HeYsUp, May 28 2009, 05:01 AM.

Yanma doesn't have 45 Speed. If it did, it might be fair. Fix that. |

Not going to do much in depth right now, but Hypnosis should be the main option. The HP section in the first set needs removing or rewriting, do calcs to see if Bug Buzz would do enough to the pokemon you are thinking of targeting, and if HP really does much to munchy... Opinion needs more about how it functions, why it got banned that kind of thing. Comparing to Tangela is a bit strange, they are very very different. Quite a few formatting things needs fixing, as well as grammatical flow issues. This could help: http://www.smogon.com/articles/grammar_standards Its a good start but needs some work, particularly in the last two sections. |

Ill add more later, but there was a ton of formatting errors here. Hidden Power Ice shouldn't be an option, because most Flying types Yanma will be against usually have a secondary bug type (Scyther and Foe yanma). |

Made the edits, but I still think Hypnosis should be an option on the Lead set. Hypnosis will help with Bulky leads likes Phanpy and Hippopotas etc So that you can bring in a counter to kill them. Edit: Added Quick Attack in OO. Edited by Hybrid, May 31 2009, 08:10 PM.

should be
, and
should be
(
ends your paragraphs, not just
again). Your sections like [OTHER OPTIONS] and [COUNTERS] shouldn't be in all caps, but [SET COMMENTS] is. Grammar will come later, I'm sleepy. |

Hey, what's up?

On the Choice Specs set, you need to fix the formatting. Hidden Power needs to be written as "Hidden Power <Type>", so it should look like this: "Hidden Power Ground" for example. Also, with /'s, it should be like: X / Y / Z, not X/Y/Z. And make sure you wright the EVs with the correct abbreviation. For example SpA = Special Attack, not Spe. Atk. EDIT: Please fix the
Tags too. It should look like
Hi
. Other than that, the first two sets are fine except for wording, which you definitely want to take a look at and read it out loud or something, or ask someone like Addie / SDS to look at it. However in OO, you need to definitely add a Reversal set in OO. It can work if all priority are eliminated too, though it is hard to do that (Which is why it's an OO set). Just mention that, and the set would be Substitute / Reversal / Return / Aerial Ace @ Liechi w/ Speed Boost. Also you should mention a Sleep N' Sweep set in OO with Hypnosis and compoundeyes. For Opinion, you need to change [OPINIONS] into [Opinion] (not caps, and without the s at the end). You also need to probably scrap half of the first paragraph, and make sure you state the differences between the two. Neither outclasses the other. Talk about how Yanma is exteremely powerful because it cannot be revenge killed by the most popular form of revenge killing; Choice Scarf, and with decent defenses, base SpA, and coverage, Yanma is definitely worth consideration for any Ubers team. In counters you need to emphasize Priority from Pokemon like Scyther, Sneasel, Murkrow, Meditite, etc. from the Uber tier, not really BL/UU Pokemon. Edited by HeYsUp, Jun 19 2009, 06:53 PM.
