Hey, what's up?
![]()
|
Well here it is! The reason this team is called "Damp Offense" is because its not a full Rain Dance team, it only uses the 8 turns (or so) of Rain Dance to sweep late game, when the opponents walls are naturally weak from my wall breakers, Stealth Rock, and revenge killers. Basically I made this team for the BL/UU tier. It counters the most threatening Pokemon I could find, and also works well regardless of what it's up against. Now enough waiting, onto the team: __________________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________ ![]() Swinub (M) @ Focus Sash Ability: Snow Cloak EVs: 116 HP/196 Atk/196 Spd Adamant nature (+Atk, -SAtk) - Stealth Rock - Earthquake - Ice Shard - Protect --- Role Summary: Well you don't get much better than Swinub in BL/UU with the ability to beat common leads, and possibly setting up the always important Stealth Rock. With its bulkiness, it can often survive a hit or two, but there are many Pokemon with Close Combat or Fire Punch, making me glad I didnt change it to the "bulkier" version of this lead. Moveset: Well Protect beats Fake Out leads, such as Glameow, while Earthquake is there for a hard hitting STAB attack. Ice Shard finishes off Sash users, and helps revenge kill if I save Swinub for later. Stealth Rock is very helpful, allowing me to plow right through Scarfers. EVs, Nature, and Item: Well I considered changing to my "bulkier" OU version of this lead with Oran Berry, but with the sash, Pokemon like Snubble have a harder time beating this lead without losing a massive chuck of HP, and letting me set up SR. Adamant gives me as much Attack as possible, it really helps with Swinubs merely decent attack stat. __________________________________________________________________________________ ![]() Eevee (M) @ Life Orb Ability: Adaptability EVs: 236 Atk/36 Def/236 Spd Adamant nature (+Atk, -SAtk) - Quick Attack - Frustration - Iron Tail / Hidden Power Grass - Bite --- Role Summary: Eevee is a great mid-game revenge killer and sweeper, and is the first wave of offense that my opponent has to deal with. With great Speed, and seriously AWESOME damage from Frusteration and Quick Attack, Eevee really does its job well, getting me at least a KO and a half each game. Moveset: I used to use HP Grass, but I thought it might not be as needed without Kabuto here. However, if Hellmonkey used Barboach I would've regretted it lol. Anyway, Frusteration and QA are there for sweeping and revenge killing. QA does like 70% to Pokemon like Bulbasaur, who have decent defenses, its power shouldnt be underestimated. EVs, Nature, and Item: Maximum Offensiveness here, with leftovers in defense. Life Orb seemed obvious, because LO + Double STAB Priority + SR = game ending, so often too. __________________________________________________________________________________ ![]() Bagon (M) @ Choice Scarf Ability: Rock Head EVs: 236 Atk/36 Def/196 Spd/36 SAtk Naughty nature (+Atk, -SDef) - Outrage - Hydro Pump - Dragon Claw - Fire Blast --- Role Summary: Slightly weaker than Eevee, but its bulkier and faster. Outrage seriously hurts like a Mach Truck, and can even sweep late game. It works well as a Grass / Electric resist too, sort of. Basically its my Go-To Pokemon for Physical non-Normal / Dark attacks. MixBagon is basically like a "worse" dratini in a sense, but thats not exactly the case, because I basically just have those two moves to get certain OHKOes, and I didnt use them at all during the tourney. Moveset: Outrage is obvious, with Dragon Claw as a "Safe" move to use. Hydro Pump is only here to hit the defensive Rock types who can probably take an outrage. And similarly, Fire Blast is only here to take care of basically Magnemite. EVs, Nature, and Item: Maximized Atk and Speed first, while opting for a Naughty Nature, maxing out at 21 Speed. 22 Speed is so uncommon in BL/UU, I found the Extra attack to be worth it (especially in the final match). The rest of the EVs were dumped into SpA and Defense, making Hydro Pump and Fire Blast do something, and giving Bagon such much appreciated Bulkiness. __________________________________________________________________________________ ![]() Mantyke (M) @ Damp Rock Ability: Swift Swim EVs: 236 HP/36 Def/36 Spd/200 SAtk Calm nature (+SDef, -Atk) - Rain Dance - Ice Beam - Hydro Pump - Hidden Power [Grass] --- Role Summary: The definition of "bulky weather" right here. Mantyke and Magnemite are probably my MVPs (with Eevee and Bagon close second), and this is because Mantyke basically shifts my team from Mid-early game, to late game. Not only can Mantyke sweep a huge portion of the metagame after setting up easily with its awesome defenses, it can also set up my other late game sweepers, such as Goldeen and Magnemite. Basically, Mantyke comes out on something, and sets up my late game sweepers, and itself. Moveset: Hydro Pump hits like a truck even from only 15 SpA. Ice Beam hits Grass types and HP Grass hits other Water types. Rain Dance is obvious. EVs, Nature, and Item: I made this set up myself, its the bulkiest of Bulky Rain Dance, and it should only work in BL/UU where the 23+ Speed Scarfers are rare. With its awesome bulk and Damp Rock, setting up my late game sweepers is definitely a big asset to my team. The Max SpA helps Mantyke sweep, and break some walls down for Goldeen and Magnemite. __________________________________________________________________________________ ![]() Goldeen (M) @ Life Orb Ability: Swift Swim EVs: 220 Atk/36 Def/252 Spd Adamant nature (+Atk, -SAtk) - Rain Dance - Waterfall - Megahorn - Return --- Role Summary: Now I switch around with this spread and a bulkier Spread with 92 Spe often. This is basically my only "purely offensive" (other than Eevee I guess..) Pokemon on the team, although it has some nice defense as well. With its really high attack, and Ability to hit all of the common Rain Dance walls hard enough to KO them once Eevee has dealt with breaking them, its defenitely a good late-game sweeper. It takes advantage of Mantykes long rain late game. Its usually the last Pokemon that comes out in the battle. Moveset: Waterfall + Megahorn + Return gives perfect coverage and then some. Megahorn basically hits all of the grass-types and stuff that could possibly live through a return. EVs, Nature, and Item: I switched often between this spread and the bulky "less speed" spread, but I used this spread for most of the tourney and, most of the practice battles. This is basically because I had thought that in BL/UU, people would really like to use Rain, and having basically the fastest Rain Dance Pokemon in BL/UU, it allows me to beat them at their own game. Life Orb + 19 HP is a given for maximum damage output. __________________________________________________________________________________ ![]() Magnemite @ Choice Scarf Ability: Magnet Pull EVs: 236 Spd/240 SAtk Timid nature (+Spd, -Atk) - Thunder - Thunderbolt - Hidden Power [Ground] - Flash Cannon --- Role Summary: Magnemite was probably my MVP in the tourney if it wasn't Mantyke. Magnemite completely owns the tier with its STAB Thunder in the rain. With its awesome resistances, it can come in on random U-turns, Normal Attacks, Ice/Grass attacks too. Its awesome sweeping and revenge killing ability should not be taken for Granted, it 2HKOes basically everything that isnt Immune to it with Thunder. Moveset: Thunder(bolt) + Flash Cannon give decent neutral coverage, except against other Magnemite, which is what HP Ground is for. It also helps with trapping and KOing the Rock/Steel-types if Eevee looks like it can make an easy Quick Attack sweep. Obviously Thunder is for in the rain, and Thunderbolt is for not in the rain. EVs, Nature, and Item: I wanted something that could revenge kill the average 21 Speed Choice Scarfer, so Magnemite had to be Timid. With its already high Special Attack, it was fine without the extra Point. Max SpA and Spe worked best, even though without Hidden Power it could afford another point. Choice Scarf allows it to sweep and revenge kill. __________________________________________________________________________________ So here is the team. Rate/Hate/Steal! "QA does like 70% to Pokemon like Bulbasaur" I know where that example is coming from... Anyways, I didn't even at first realize why Rain Dance was so underutilized by this team, but now it makes sense. It isn't much for OU, to be honest, where there are some great RDance abusers, but it won the tourney and beat my team (by a hit point). EDIT: Why no Explosion or Hidden Power Ice/Water on Magnemite? Explosion is really awesome in LC, because the required Attack to KO something with it is generally very low. Edited by bahohns, May 22 2009, 05:28 PM.

Well with Magnemite, there is no room for another Hidden Power as I already have HP Ground, lol. HP Ground hits Electric type Pokemon, which is the only typing that Steel / Electric doesn't hit for neutral (other than Barboach). HP Grass is the only other option, imo, because of this. But I prefer HP Ground because Magnemite traps other steels (its needed to OHKO other Magnemite, Aron, Shieldon, etc.). Explosion isn't there because it cannot fit anywhere. I need all of those attacks for either Coverage or sweeping when the rain isnt up. Magnemite is also something I dont want to be exploding tbh, and it probably does more damage with Thunder than explosion >.>. |

Oh...I didn't mean two Hidden Powers or anything "uncanny" like that. I just meant Water works for the +50% in the Rain and Ice provides great neutral coverage in LC. Also, don't forget about Wooper, who is also Water/Ground like Barboach. The lack of Explosion makes sense, as the set is actually great for your team. I just wanted to hear a bit more about why the more common Hidden Powers didn't work for you. |

Hidden Power Ice actually doesn't give much coverage in BLUU, because HP Ice basically only hits Ground / Dragon types. The former is very uncommon, and Flash Cannon OHKOes most of them, and same with the second. The main reason they dont work as well is because Flash Cannon is on this set, because my main Attack is Thunder(bolt), with Flash Cannon + HP Ground as coverage. Without HP Ground I can't trap and KO the Rock / Steels or foe Magnemites, and HP Ice basically does nothing in this case, neither does HP Water (with the lack of Ground types). I used HP Grass for a bit too, just for Wooper / Barboach. Basically: Electric / Steel / Ground > Electric / Steel / Ice or Water. Edited by HeYsUp, May 23 2009, 03:06 AM.
