Team Immune Vader (needs a better name) This team got me to #1 on the Ladder almost continuously from January 1 to the beginning of February and is my best team to date. Sadly, once you’ve battled the team a few times it becomes much less difficult to deal with. It takes a lot of prediction to use, so it can be very erratic in its win/lose ratio, but I’m confident that it is an excellent team that can still get better. Team at a Glance: In-depth: ![]() Vader (Gastly) (M) @ Choice Scarf Ability: Levitate EVs: 196 Spd/196 SAtk Modest nature (+SAtk, -Atk) - Energy Ball - Sludge Bomb - Shadow Ball - Hypnosis I think I can safely say that Gastly is one of the centerpieces of my team and reflects the primary goal: Immunities. Gastly scores three immunities for the team: Normal, Ground, Fighting. With his massive Special Attack he can very easily cause trouble for the opponent early with STAB Shadow Ball and Sludge Bomb. Energy Ball is nice for Chinchou and just in general. Hypnosis can put a Pokemon to sleep, but is a last resort due to its low accuracy. Forms 1/3 of the Offensive Core of this team. --- ![]() Magmortified (Munchlax) (M) @ Leftovers Ability: Thick Fat EVs: 236 HP/36 Def/236 SDef Sassy nature (+SDef, -Spd) - Earthquake - Return - Protect - Pursuit Munchlax is a beast. Coming in safely on any Ghost attacks aimed at Gastly and hitting hard with Pursuit lets it get a free kill on Scarf Gastly. Leftovers restore more HP than Oran Berry after six turns, which are rather easy to buy oneself combined with Protect, one of the best scouting moves in the Metagame. Protecting and then switching to an appropriately immune or resistant Pokemon is a must. He’s one half of the GligarLax defensive combo. --- ![]() Squirtleboy12 (Gligar) (M) @ Oran Berry Ability: Hyper Cutter EVs: 76 HP/236 Atk/156 Def Adamant nature (+Atk, -SAtk) - Roost - Aqua Tail - Earthquake - Rock Polish Gligar is another valuable member of the team. Adding an Electric immunity and another Ground immunity give a significant advantage to Gligar over other defensive Pokemon such as Chinchou. He can RP up and smack down the opposition with Aqua Tail and EQ, though it sadly walled by grasses. Aqua Tail is usually a 2HKO on other Gligar, while EQ deals with most everything else. Combined with Munchlax, this guy is monstrous. --- ![]() Elekid (M) @ Life Orb Ability: Static EVs: 252 Atk/236 Spd Jolly nature (+Spd, -SAtk) - Cross Chop - Ice Punch - Thunderpunch - Quick Attack The second member of my team’s Offensive Core, Elekid is one of the best physical sweepers in the game. Hitting the magic 20 speed lets him wreak havoc with opposing teams. Ice Punch hits Gligar, Diglett and the like hard, while Cross Chop deals with Munchlax. Thunderpunch’s STAB lets it dominate anything it hits neutrally, while Quick Attack assures a kill on Sashed and Scarfed Pokemon. --- ![]() HybridHerpes (Houndour) (M) @ Choice Scarf Ability: Flash Fire EVs: 240 Spd/200 SAtk Modest nature (+SAtk, -Atk) - Dark Pulse - Fire Blast - Hidden Power [Fighting] - Flamethrower Houndour’s immunities are much less common than the others: Fire and Psychic. Coming in on Abra and killing them with Flamethrower is an easy task. Fire Blast adds that extra “oomph” when necessary, while Flamethrower is more reliable. Dark Pulse is good when I don’t know if the opponent has Ponyta or not and HP Fighting hits everything else. The last member of my team’s Offensive Core. --- ![]() Kannon (Croagunk) (M) @ Life Orb Ability: Dry Skin EVs: 188 Atk/116 Spd/188 SAtk Hasty nature (+Spd, -Def) - Earthquake - Nasty Plot - Sucker Punch - Vacuum Wave Kannon’s MixPlotGunk set. EVed to outspeed other Croagunk and OHKO with EQ. EQ also deals with Elekid and the like and is an all-around excellent move. Sucker Punch hits Ghosts hard and is great for mind games. NP+Vacuum Wave needs no explanation. Water Immunity is also pretty sweet. --- So then, Vader, how do I play this team? Very carefully. The team is much less straightforward than it looks and takes a lot of guesswork and prediction to properly utilize. That said, when used correctly and effectively, this team can very easily stop an opponent in their tracks. Unlike other teams which rely on gaining momentum and revenge-killing, this team is very much about abusing the various immunities and resistances its members hold. Learning how to utilize the synergy inherent between the team-members is vital. Let’s take a look at some of the commonly-used pairs in this team: Gastly&Munchlax: Switching to Munchlax will take any attack that Gastly doesn’t like. Munchlax Pursuits other Ghosts into oblivion and Returns anything else to death. Houndour&Croagunk: A match made in heaven. With Croagunk’s handy water immunity and Rock and Fighting resists coupled with Dour’s Psychic immunity make them a formidable duo. Gastly&Houndour: Ghost/Dark has excellent defensive capabilities. Gastly doesn’t like Rock or Water moves, but that’s okay. Dour takes Ghost and Dark moves, while Gastly takes Fighting and Ground ones. Munchlax&Gligar: Munchlax/Gligar forms a superb defensive combination. Munchy takes nearly all Special hits while Gligar takes nearly all physical ones. Munchlax resists the Ice-type with Thick Fat, letting it take hits for Gligar from its main weakness. Gligar resists Fighting, Munchlax’s only weakness. Now, for the combos of three Pokemon: Gastly/Houndour/Elekid: Less about being able to come in on resistances than having excellent offensive capacity. Gastly/Houndour easily deal with any physically defensive Pokemon trying to wall Elekid, while Elekid can easily dispatch Munchlax. Gastly/Houndour/Croagunk: A combination of two pairs, this combination is nothing short of incredible. Houndour takes the Psychic moves, Croagunk takes the Water moves, Gastly takes the Fighting and Ground moves. Switch-ins are easy with this trifecta. Gligar/Croagunk/Elekid: Gligar covers the Ground weakness of Gunk and Elekid. Gunk deals with Water weak, and Elekid gets excellent offensive coverage. Although not quite as excellent as some of the other combos, it still merits mention. Okay, then Vader. I like this team. But, I saw ObiStall and it had a “How I made this team” section, and I was wondering how did you make your team? It started off with the idea of an Immunity Team, a team with the ability to switch in a member on many different kinds of attacks at either a benefit or for free. I made a list of all the immunities that exist in Little Cup: Electric Fighting Normal Ghost Poison Ground Water Fire Psychic Next, I made a list of the usable Pokemon that held these immunities: Electric: Gligar: Larvitar: Chinchou: Fighting/Normal: Misdreavus Gastly Shuppet Ghost Munchlax Lickitung Porygon Poison Bronzor Magnemite Shieldon Aron Ground Misdreavus Gligar Gastly Taillow Murkrow Bronzor Water Croagunk Mantine Fire Houndour Ponyta Psychic Murkrow Houndour Carvanha From there, I took out the ones that I had used in the past and was most comfortable with and took note of their strengths and weaknesses:
I decided to try a Stally team, with Snover/Lax/Missy/Bronzor/Gligar/Chinchou. However, this was less effective, and I rethought it to be the Immunity team it is today. The reasons I chose each Pokemon are included in the In-Depth Look, so I won’t detail them here. Edited by Dixie, Feb 18 2009, 12:14 PM.

My MixPlotGunk <3 I can see you've put much effort into your team, but from what I've seen and done, Focus Sash + Priority makes everyone on your team cry. SR could be fit onto Gligar if you changed to a defensive set with Roost/EQ/SR/Stone Edge or Aqua Tail. Leadiglett also gives major problems, as does Mixed Mankey (to a lesser extent) You might want to implement some sashes yourself. Very great team and makes most of using immunities to force switches |

It is about time you posted this team as a RMT! It will likely get in the team archive. If this team has one fault, it is that elikid isn't named Eric the Espion. Then your team would be perfect. |

I was considering SR somewhere on the team, but between Elekid's Quick Attack and Croagunk not many Sashed Pokes manage to beat me. I'll edit in a bigger thing into the RMT later when I have time, but the team doesn't worry about Sashers because of RP Gligar, Munchlax and Priority. I do have some issues with Trick Room when Lax goes down, and losing Gastly gives me quite a bit of trouble. Gastly outspeeds and OHKOs Mankey with Sludge Bomb in my experience. Could you tell me what LeaDiglett is, since I've never encountered one? |

Leadiglett is EQ/HP Ice/Sucker Punch/Protect @ Sash. It can deal massive damage to most leads and can finish off sashed ones with it's speed or Sucker Punch |

I think this is deserving of an archive place. I have uploaded the team for you. As for a rate HP Psychic > EQ on Croagunk unless you fear Chinchou since you can then hit Koffing and OHKO other gunk easily and don't give a free turn to Sub Gastly. iirc on gastly you can add 116 HP to increase HP by one. Perhaps Sub>Quick Attack on Elekid as it also protects you from scarfers as well as meaning your opponent needs to sacrifice to break your sub to come into Diglett to make you a bit less Diglett weak at least one/two of Houndour, Munchlax and Croagunk will lose to ScarfDiglett. You could combine that with SubLeichi if you wished. If you are going for Fire Blast on Houndour as a power move, why not use Overheat instead or find space for Sucker Punch/Pursuit. The Croagunk in the uploaded file has Anticipation rather than Dry Skin. :/ This is a problem because it loses its all-important Water immunity. |
