Here's all the basic information on cards, points, trading, rewards, and more! It may seem a bit overwhelming at first, but once you begin, you catch on very quickly.
Cards
The Gems is a community that is based around a card game. The goal of the game is to collect every card of specific sets of your choosing. On average, each set contains 15 cards. There are also special sets, however, that may contain more or less. You can collect cards by participating in activities and contests, buying more cards, or trading with other members. The amount and value of your cards help determine your membership level. (More about membership levels will be covered below!) Since we are a rating community for ladies, most of the cards are based on girly things like clothing, accessories, makeup, etc. Some cards hold a higher value than others based on rarity. There are regular cards (worth 1), special cards (worth 2), and community cards (worth 3). Here are some examples of which cards are of what values:
Regular Card (Worth 1)
Special Cards (Worth 2)
Designer Cards Large Specials Jewelry Boxes
Since we are the Gems, we have Jewelry Boxes. Jewelry boxes are posts that each member will have that hold all their cards, rewards, trinkets, etc plus membership level and net worth. You must have a jewelry box set up before you can begin playing and completing activities. To learn more about setting up your jewelry box, go here. (While most TCGs require you to host your own card page, we require you to host it on the board to make things easier for all of our members and to be sure that your page and cards are always readily available for those willing to trade.)
Card Game Rules Make sure you read these rules carefully in order to be able to participate in the card game!
001. No cheating!! Much of this game is based on an honor system, so no taking cards that you did not earn or are not given to you. Cheating ruins the fun for everyone, and, if you are caught or suspected of cheating, you will be banned from the community.
002. Update your jewelry box at least once every two weeks, preferably more. The more active you are, the more often you should update. Updating includes adding cards earned, checking up on trades and offers, and recounting the net worth of your box. If you are going to be on hiatus, please post a message somewhere in your jewelry box letting the mod and other members know that you are currently unavailable for updates.
003. If you trade cards with a member, be sure to take that card down off of your page after the transaction is completed. Furthermore, be respectful and kind to all members. If someone doesn't want to trade, don't get in a tissy.
004. If you make a post of your own including an activity that will earn you cards, your cards and rewards will be given to you in a comment of that post. If you earn cards and rewards by commenting on a mod's post, like in a contest, guessing game, etc, your cards will be awarded to you in a post in your jewelry box. Generally, the post will explain where you will receive rewards.
005. Always save cards and rewards to your own computer! Upload them to your photobucket or elsewhere to insert them in your jewelry box. If not, you are eating up the bandwidth and the cards will not be available on the page. If you are caught hotlinking graphics, you will lose points and be warned. The second time, you will be banned!
These rules are simple. Follow them, and we can all have a great time!
Membership Levels
The total value of all your cards and accessories in your jewelry box determine your membership level. You membership level represents how active you are in the community, so, the higher the membership level, the better. There will be special rewards and privileges for each membership level. The current membership levels and jewelry box worths are as follows:
Level 1: 0 - 40
Level 2: 41 - 80
Level 3: 81 - 120
Level 4: 121 - 160
Level 5: 161 - 200
Level 6: 201 - 240

More levels will be added as needed.
Leveling Up
Each time the total worth of your jewelry box goes up to a new level, you will receive a reward in cards and points. If, upon updating your jewelry box you find that you have gone up to the next level, make an post with 'Level Up' in the Topic Title and the level you were promoted to in the Topic Subtitle. Include in your post:
Previous Level:
New Level:
Choice Card:
Rewards: 1 choice regular & 1 random regular
Your Gem group will receive 100 points for your level up!
Your rewards will be posted to you in that post. So, be sure so check back for my reply to get your cards to add to your jewelry box.
Mastering a Set
Mastering a set is when you have collected all of the cards in a specific set. If you have mastered a set, you will receive a special mastery card (available on the page with that card set). You can place the mastery card in your jewelry box and then remove all the cards from that set if you'd like to save space. The mastery card will be worth the total net worth of the set you mastered. Note that if you opt to keep both the cards and the mastery card, the total net worth of the set can only be counted once. You will receive two choice regular cards (or 1 choice special card) , 2 random regular cards, and 100 points to your gem group for mastering a set. If you master a set, make a post with the title 'Mastered (Name of Set)' and include this information in your post.

Rewards will be posted in that post, so be sure to pick them up! Also, do not take down your collected set and replace with a mastery card until I have put up your rewards!
Trading Cards
You can trade cards with other members to help you collect your set! Links to other members' jewelry boxes are located in the jewelry box forum. If you see that someone has a card you would like in their jewelry box, leave them a reply requesting a trade for that card. If you think you have something they may want that you would not mind parting with, offer them a card of the same value, or, if you don't know what they'd like, they can take a look around your jewelry box and make you a counter offer. Remember that you don't have to trade cards. Just be sure to turn down offers nicely.
Starter Packs
Upon being accepted as a member, you will receive a few cards to help you get started. New Members will receive:
If their collecting set is Worth 1
+ 2 Cards from their Collecting Set
+ 3 Random cards Worth 1
+ 1 Random card Worth 2
If their collecting set is Worth 2
+ 2 Cards from their Collecting Set
+ 3 Random cards Worth 1
Note that even though the number of cards is different, the net value is the same.
Freebies
Occasionally, in my update posts, I will post freebies. Freebies are cards that members can take for free and add to their total. The only conditions are that the member must comment in that post with what cards they are taking, and you can only receive update freebies from updates that were posted after you were accepted.
We realize that this is a lot of information to take in all at once, so if you have any questions or comments, feel free to ask here!
