All right people, happy you're deciding to read this, hopefully that means that you're also interested in joining the competition. This is a competition I used to run for 3-4 years and it's heaps of fun. If the World Cup competition proves to be a success I don't mind moving onto something when the next season starts in Europe. Anyway let me explain the system for you. For the World Cup edition you will guess the result of the matches and you get points dependent on how close you were to the real score. Whoever has accumulated the most points after the Final will win the competition and the boasting rights. You've got two ways to join this competition. The first way is to just join for free and if you win you can tell everyone how great you are. The second way is to pay 10 dollars and be eligible for the prize afterwards, if you win you can tell everyone how great you are and get rich (at least momentarily). What you decide is entirely your choice. By the way if the winner of the competition decided not to put the 10 dollars in (bet you'd regret that!), the money prize goes to the highest placed participant that did put the 10 dollars in. How much you win depends on many people put the 10 dollars in, you see the winner takes it all. Now on to the scoring system. If you guess the correct result you will be awarded five points, this is in other words the most you can get for one match, but you can basically get anything between 0 and 5 points so let me break it down. 1 point for the correct number of goals for home team (for the World Cup this would be the team on the home (left) side in the fixture list 1 point for the correct number of goals for the away team 1 point for the right goal difference 2 points for the right outcome, i.e. guessing the right winner or a draw Here's a few examples: Brazil - Portugal has just ended and Brazil won 3-1. Guessing... 3-1 gives 5 points 2-0 gives 3 points (right outcome + right goal difference) 3-0 gives 3 points (right outcome + right number of home goals) 2-1 gives 3 points (right outcome + right number of away goals) 1-0 gives 2 points (right outcome) 3-3 gives 1 point (right number of home goals) 1-1 gives 1 point (right number of away goals) 0-1 gives 1 point (right number of away goals) You can see from the above examples that it is actually impossible to 4 points in a match. This ensures a solid bonus if you're spot on with the result, those two extra points are worth gold, from experience I can tell you that if you get 5 points on about 20% of the matches you will be absolutely flying! So that's the scoring system. During the World Cup I will keep you updated after every matchday so you can keep track of your progress. The only thing I need from you guys is to guess the results in advance by sending me an e-mail through this forum. Hover you mouse over the inbox on the top right corner on this very page and you'll see a drop down menu with an option to compose a message. Click on compose message and in the to field you just write my username in this forum (Morten), write your tips down and send the message. You decide how often you want to send tips. You can send me one massive e-mail with the tips for all group stage matches before the World Cup starts or you can send me a mail for each day. You can also change your mind and change your tips as many times you want until the start of the match... and obviously if you choose to invest the 10 dollars it must be paid before the start of the first match :-). If there are any questions feel free to post them under the rules and explanation folder. That's it, hope you'll join the fun! Edited by Morten, 29 May 2010, 04:07 PM.
