Blood and Oil This is supposedly a TV series. But it ended after only 10 episodes which make it somewhat of a miniseries. It is a cross between "Dallas" and "Dynasty" TV series in style and plot. But unlike those TV series, this one ended nicely with a bow and ribbon. If it shows in the PHL, go ahead and watch it. Tripped This sci-fi comedy miniseries is about best friends Milo and Danny who embark on a series of bizarre adventures across multiple, parallel universes. Narcos This show originally aired on August 28, 2015, as a Netflix exclusive. Narcos is set and filmed in Colombia: the first season comprises 10 episodes. The series was renewed for a second season on September 3, 2015; it will air in 2016. In Latin America, the term "narco" is an abbreviation of the word "narcotraficante" (drug trafficker). Before this usage in the United States, the term "narc" (or "narco") referred to a specialist officer of a narcotics police force, such as a DEA agent. Daniel Holden was imprisoned as a teenager for the rape and murder of his 16-year-old girlfriend, Hanna. After spending 19 years on death row, new DNA evidence vacates his original trial, and he returns to his hometown of Paulie, Georgia. The subsequent adjustments and events in the lives of Daniel, his extended family, and the townfolk are related as a character study in a slowly unfolding Southern Gothic story. Sundance Channel's first wholly owned scripted series stars Aden Young as Daniel Holden, who spends nearly 20 years on death row for the rape and murder of a teenage girl, before new DNA evidence nullifies his conviction. He returns home, but he's far from welcomed. He's an outsider now in a town that remains divided by his alleged crime, and contributing to his uncertain future is the man who prosecuted him -- riding that notoriety to become a state senator -- is plotting to reopen the case. As he struggles to adapt, Daniel is comforted by support from his younger sister, Amantha, who has always believed in his innocence and has worked her entire adult life to secure his release. Not so for Ted Jr., Daniel's stepbrother with whom he has no relationship. Insecure and manipulative, Ted is skeptical of Daniel's motives and will do anything to protect his family. Beowulf Return to the Shieldlands (2016 TV Mini-Series) Set in Scandinavia. Living off the grid and above the law on their mountaintop homestead, they'll protect their world and defend their way of life using any means necessary. "War and Peace" (A&E, Lifetime, and History Channel) Leo Tolstoy's classic novel receives a grand adaptation for TV audiences with this series that will be simulcast on three networks beginning Jan. 18. The epic story, which follows the travails of five aristocratic families in Russia during the reign of Alexander I, centers on the love triangle between Natasha Rostova (Lily James), Pierre Bezukhov (Paul Dano), and Andrei Bolkonsky (James Norton). Premieres Monday, Jan. 18, at 9 p.m. ET/PT on A&E, Lifetime, and History Channel. "Fuller House" (Netflix) Fans of the enormously popular '80s and '90s-era family sitcom "Full House" will finally know what happened to the Tanner clan when this Netflix sequel series debuts in February. The project reunites nearly the whole original cast including original series creator Jeff Franklin. The notable exceptions are Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, who opted not to return as Michelle Tanner. "Fuller House" centers on the life of D.J. Tanner-Fuller (Candace Cameron Bure), now an adult widow and mother of three. When things get tough, she calls on sister Stephanie (Jodie Sweetin) and best friend Kimmy Gibbler (Andrea Barber) to smooth things out. Premieres Friday, Feb. 26, on Netflix. Jessica Jones (Netflix) A former superhero decides to reboot her life by becoming a private investigator. Ever since her short-lived stint as a superhero ended in tragedy, Jessica Jones has been rebuilding her personal life and career as a hot-tempered, sardonic private detective in Hell's Kitchen, New York City. Plagued by self-loathing and a wicked case of PTSD, Jessica battles demons from within and without, using her extraordinary abilities as an unlikely champion for those in need... especially if they're willing to cut her a check. The last thing this is is a superhero show. No, Jessica Jones is a beautifully dark, witty and suspenseful drama about what makes us human and about the daily choices and internal fights all of us have between being good and being evil and making the right choice. Krysten Ritter seems to have landed the role of a lifetime. That role fits her like a glove. David Tennant is equally good as an enamored sociopath and probably the first mass murderer in film/TV who is genuinely amusing (whenever he is not repulsive). The interaction between the two is a good enough reason to watch the show alone, and the amazing writing is only matched by the skill of the actors delivering their lines. Ritter is a true queen of snappy repartees. This series premiered last year in October in the U.S. & November in many parts of the world. 24: Legacy This is a soft reboot of its real-time action series 24, which plans to adopt the same structure and style of the earlier show but with a brand new cast. Series stalwart Kiefer Sutherland will not be a part of the cast. 24: Legacy will instead “revolve around a military hero’s return to the U.S. and the trouble that follows him back – compelling him to ask CTU for help in saving his life, and stopping what potentially could be one of the largest-scale terror attacks on American soil.” The hero is a twenty-something named Eric Carter, who is described in the pilot script as an African American, but according to Deadline, Carter’s ethnicity may change during development. American Idol Legacy This is the last American Idol. Anyone watching this? Shameless (Showtime) This is not a show about MRT :kk3: This Showtime TV series is not exactly a new one but I thought I'd introduce it to Filipinoys since I don't think it has been aired yet in our local PHL cable networks. This series got me hooked when I saw the very first episode of Season 1. It is fresh, refreshing, compelling and witty. I don't usually like this genre but this series changed my mind. I have a feeling that this series will never be shown in the PHL because of its adult contents (nudities, even brief frontal ones, included in some episodes; depiction of drug use, getting extremely drunk, having rip-roaring sex, even oral sex; homosexuality) but do correct me if I am wrong on that. MTRCB and our society itself are pretty conservative...so, kiddiez, don't watch this TV series. Shameless is at its 6th Season. OK...here are some background info about Shameless: Chicagoan Frank Gallagher is the proud single dad of six smart, industrious, independent kids, who without him would be... perhaps better off. When Frank's not at the bar spending what little money they have, he's passed out on the floor. But the kids have found ways to grow up in spite of him. They may not be like any family you know, but they make no apologies for being exactly who they are. Shameless is an American comedy-drama teevee series which is a remake of the British series set in Chicago's Canaryville neighborhood on the South Side, although filmed in Los Angeles, with the exterior scenes filmed in Chicago. If you reside or have visited Chicago you might recognize some familiar Windy City places shown in this show. The series depicts the dysfunctional family of Frank Gallagher, a single father of six children. While he spends his days drunk, his kids learn to take care of themselves. The show's producers sought to distinguish it from previous American working-class shows by highlighting how Frank's alcoholism affects his family. Paul Abbott, creator of the original, said, "It's not My Name Is Earl or Roseanne. It's got a much graver level of poverty attached to it. It's not blue collar; it's no collar." When John Wells, the showrunner, began pitching the show, he had to fight efforts to place the show in the South or in a trailer park. He explained, "We have a comedic tradition of making fun of the people in those worlds. The reality is that these people aren't 'the other' – they're people who live four blocks down from you and two blocks over". The theme song for Shameless is "The Luck You Got" by indie rock group "The High Strung." The majority of the music featured throughout the series is generally from indie rock bands. The pilot episode made use of music from artists such as Say Hi, 3OH!3 featuring Ke$ha, The Vines, The Moog and LMFAO. The show has also featured music from Let's Wrestle, The Eels, The Blue Van, Cake, Alien Crime Syndicate, and Freeplay Music. Music from The High Strung, Soho3, Say Hi and The High Planes Drifters can be heard multiple times throughout the show. A few songs being "We Are The Men You'll Grown To Love Soon", "Silly Boy" and Beginners Luck. Capital Cities has been heard on the show with their song "Who's That Dude Pt. 1", as well as Johnny Foreigner with "Absolute Balance" and Bosshouse Music with "Chicago Blues". The last episode of season one featured two songs by The Diner with the first being "Indie Dreams" and with "Sun and Soil" being the second. In promotion for the second season premiere the entire cast of Shameless sang their own version of a Christmas Carol "except this one dings grandma’s holiday turkey and suggests the best route home in case you partake in too much holiday cheer" entitled Shameless: Christmas Carol. Posted Image Stranger Things If you haven't been following this new TV series, you are missing a lot. This thrilling Netflix-original drama stars award-winning actress Winona Ryder as Joyce Byers, who lives in a small Indiana town in 1983 -- inspired by a time when tales of science fiction captivated audiences. When Joyce's 12-year-old son, Will, goes missing, she launches a terrifying investigation into his disappearance with local authorities. As they search for answers, they unravel a series of extraordinary mysteries involving secret government experiments, unnerving supernatural forces, and a very unusual little girl. Network: Netflix Posted Image Season 2 will tell the story of where the monster demagorgon actually came from, and why there aren’t more monsters. So, what would a second season of Stranger Things look like? For starters, don't expect the same threat as before. As the producers explained, it's not just about facing another monster, "its a bigger, badder monster." The goal is to keep the episode count down (season one had only eight episodes) to ensure the series still feels tonally similar to the movies it draws inspiration from, however, "structurally, it's going to have a very different structure," they teased. 5 reasons critics love Netflix’s ‘Stranger Things’ http://ow.ly/k6aa302IQFW "Stranger Things" have received universal acclaim. In the first week after its release, Netflix’s "Stranger Things" has overtaken "Orange is the New Black" as the most popular digital original series.
