I've always wanted to start a thread on this. Ever observed a few things in Pinas that didn't sit well with you or things that you think are so wrong? Here's one: A few nights ago did you see your local prime time TV news showing this news report?: Posted Image That's the picture of DOTC Sec. Jun Abaya walking on the MRT platform -- he was inspecting something kuno :hmm: Is he an train engineer? Dunno what you will find on the elevated platform of the train station unless this was just a photo op for the news media to report on. Right behind him was his aide holding up an umbrella for him, reminiscent of the Marcos years. Do you see something wrong with that? Did I miss the memo announcing our nation is now a MONARCHY? Maybe I did! Can Abaya not hold his own umbrella? Maybe he doesn't want to be called a 'girly man', right Arnold? Here's another one: Ever noticed some "DON'T DO" signs when you go to department stores in Pinas? A sign on top of chairs or sofas sez "Pls don't sit" or "Thank you for not sitting". So how can you test if a sofa or chair is comfy enough for you or has the right back support? By telepathy? Contrast that to what's allowed in furniture stores in America. They allow you to do anything you want with them short of wrecking or damaging them. They even allow you to sleep on their beds so you can pretty much "test-drive" your favored bed. You can't do that in the FAIL-ippines. There are also signs in the same stores that says "Pls don't take pictures". One time I was in front (not inside) of a store in a mall and I wanted to take a picture of their display. One of the sales ladies stopped me on my tracks. HEHE...she said I can't take any pictures of their window display. I took them anyway. :irule: When we went to the Ayala Museum in Makati we were told not to take pictures too. DRAT! It was a great museum with some awesome artifacts! If you are a tourists in Pinas, don't miss that museum. I was also told not to snap pictures inside Baguio's St. Louis University's museum. That's not the case in Chicago. You can take as many pictures that you like when you go to our museums there. And Chicago has many world-class museums. And then this: When you shop at a supermarket you MUST go through the designated entrances to the supermarket, and not through the check-out counter aisles or exits. What's the big deal? :duh: :rolleyes2: May I say this about many people in PINAS? -- Too many ANAL people don't know how to relax! |

What's wrong with our banks? The fees negate campaigns to promote saving money in banks. A P10-15 interbank ATM withdrawal fee is more than interest earned. Some banks still don't have interbanking except when it comes to dollar deposits. I bought drinks from a 7-11 store in Pinas. I asked for straws (normal to ask for them if you buy drinks, right?)...GUESS WHAT? They charged me P2 per straw. :ramhd: We were dining in a restaurant and for myself I ordered a burger (and it wasn't the cheap kind). Being from Chicago, I'm so used to putting mustard on my burger. So I asked our waiter to give me some. GUESS WHAT? They charged me P20 for it. :what!: Do you know that it now costs P10 to P20 a piece if you want to opt for plastic bags when you go grocery shopping in Pinas? :td: ONLY IN THE PHILIPPINES! |

Most motorists don't stop when you cross the pedestrian lane or when a child or people with disability or the wheelchair-bound is crossing the street. It's drivers not stopping when pedestrians have the right of way. Mostly, they try to go around you. In the U.S., drivers just stop on their track and allow such pedestrians to cross safely. Most Filipinos don't even know how to say thank you when you pass their pamasahe to the tsuper-sweet-lover or when you hold the door for them so they can go through or when you give female bus/train passengers your seat. Many people have forgotten to say 'Thank you.' I've been to a few hospitals in the Philippines where the medical staff talked so loud about their private lives, or their patient or about things that I'd rather not hear about. That's just so unethical and unprofessional. Doctors and nurses, please watch what you say in front of your patients or the people around you in a professional setting.
