Jessica Soho to Vice Ganda: Rape is not a joke
From: http://www.gmanetwork.com/news/story/310398/lifestyle/people/jessica-soho-to-vice-ganda-rape-is-not-a-joke

GMA News anchor Jessica Soho has reacted to a joke made by comedian Vice Ganda about the popular media personality and an imagined rape scenario, which has earned criticism from many sectors.

In his concert last May 17, Vice Ganda joked that if Soho were a bold star in a movie, the scene would have to involve a "gang rape." The comedian made fun of Soho's physique for a full two minutes before moving on to other celebrities.

In a statement sent to GMA News Online on Tuesday, Soho said: "Rape is not a joke and should never be material for a comedy concert."

She added: "I thank all those who shared my hurt and expressed their support, but this should not be about me but about rape victims who suffer tremendously from this terrible crime. The horrors they go through are unspeakable and should never be taken lightly, especially by way of a cruel joke."

Soho is the host of the evening news program State of the Nation on GMA News TV, and is also the Vice President for News and Public Affairs of GMA Network.

She has won numerous awards in her career as a broadcast journalist for more than two decades, including the prestigious Peabody award, and has repeatedly ranked as among the most trusted news personalities in the country.

I refuse to address this abomination as "Vice Ganda" being that not only is he uber beastly and hideous in appearance he is also as repulsive and loathsome inside. So let me just address him as Vice since that word befits him well. I saw the video of Vice's apology to Soho in YouTube. I purposely picked the blurriest video on YouTube showing Vice apologizing to Soho so it won't hurt your eyes looking at Vice:

Is that what you call an apology? :dramaqn: :harhar: :gayfight: :crap: If that is an apology, and not just another publicity stunt and a justification, I have 50 mansions to sell you spread out all over Europe and the Americas. WoW! And his fans are buying his/her crap and defending him/her. He is even demanding that people should stop talking about it. Excuse me, Ms Vice, you are in NO position to demand anything because you were not the one who got hurt by your cruel joke. You and your low-life fans had your laugh so let those you offended had their say too. And according to you, you won't change your comedic style. That means you will continue to insult people as you see fit. I never watched his/her show. I have always thought of him/her as a no-class actress. It is amazing how many Filipinos patronize the type of crap and sleaze he/she puts out for the public. And he had done this in the presence of children? These children who had been exposed to this scum will be the future Vices. Nice! According to Vice, ABS asked him what he wanted to do. WHAT?! Ya mean to say he didn't get a memo or his walking papers? :rollonflr: ABS did not even issue a statement regarding how badly their Vice acted in public. No wonder you get reactions like this:

Quote:

And what about MTRCB? What is their stand on Vice's over-all comedic style? Is this the type of stuff we want to see on TV?

There are a few scenes in GMA's Bubble Gang which also made light of rape. That is equally as disgusting. Are the producers or directors of these shows asleep on the wheel? What is happening to Philippine television? All they want is to make money. Shameless!

I do not find it funny when comedians do their act at the expense of others, specially those who make fun of people's physical attributes, handicaps and imperfections. In the past I have seen on local TV and movies actors making fun of ngongos, pilay, bungal, fat and ugly people. You can still see that in a few TV shows. One in particular is Eat Bulaga when some of the participants of the show refer to Ruby as "baboy". I find that simply repulsive.

Back to Vice, may nag-post nito:

Quote:

To condone Vice Ganda is to insult the millions of obese and rape victims. Decent Filipinos should rise and fight for what is good.

What Vice did was to make fun of Soho's weight. People's "flaws" should not be made a comedy material. It is simply cruel.

Ang hirap talaga kapag bakla ka. Yung ibang bading, hindi naman lahat, they just have to call attention to themselves by being repulsive and putting down people to feel good about themselves. Basic psych 101. :harhar:

These reactions should give Vice a wake-up call:

Just saw the Vice Ganda clip. It was tasteless, crude and cruel. And even more amazingly, supposedly intelligent people lapped it up.

Atty Harry Roque:

Vice Ganda will soon find out that some things can't be the subject of jokes!
I'm happy that Pinoys will no longer tolerate pun on sexual violence. Way to go Pinoy public!

Vice Ganda telling his viewers to RESPECT gays when he can't even give respect to normal people, especially to women.

Ellen's last statement seems to be missing the word "him" in the above photo:
They are not making HIM apologize to Jessica?

From someone who knows Ms Soho:

...knowing Jessica wala naman sa kanya yun pero sa kapamilya nya hindi natin alam.

Nakakabigla lang na may mga Pwenoy na ideni-defend pa si Vice sa ginawa niyang kabastusan kay Jessica. Brainwashed na talaga ang ibang tao sa kaimoralan ni Vice Ganda at marami pa ring low-livians sa Pinas na masyadong fanatico sa mga networks na tinatangkilik nila. Halatang-halata ang pagka-third-world natin. HAYZ! Whaddya gonna do? Did she deserve that? Did she do anything bad or harmful to other people? Did she libel anyone? Did she put down other people? Did she report any news which were unfair to anyone? I'm sure she was hurt. You can read all the gleeful cheers that Vice's fans are posting in many Pinoy forums. Totally loathsome people they are. Nakakaduwal sila. Yuck! Maybe it's just pus$y-envy kasi di naman talaga sila mga tunay na babae. They just wish they are. Hindi rin nila mararanasan how horrible rape is. Maybe some of them would wish they get to experience that. KADIRI!

Jessica Soho have done far better than Vice. Jessica Soho was honored as Asia's Journalist of All Times. She is also a George Foster Peabody awardee and is the first Filipino to win the British Fleet Journalism Award.

Kung gusto ni Vice yurakan at gawing katatawanan the likes of Boy Abunda, Kr!s @qu!no at mga kasamahan niya sa network nila, go fire away, Vice! Sige babuyin mo ang pangalan nila. Friend mo naman kasi sila eh. It's like you can't use the "N word" on an African-American if you yourself is not African-American. If you do so, you would be beaten up to a pulp or be killed. Yung yagballs mo ipapakain nila sa iyo. Yan naman ang hilig mo eh. But they can call each other the "N word" because between them it's nothing racial kasi magkalahi naman sila eh or they are friends or they are just horsing around not meant to demean. We do that to each other because we're buddies and we know deep down we really do not mean what we're saying and most importantly, the friends we do insult are used to that and they insult us back. No feelings are hurt when that happens. What was the point of insulting Ms Soho by Vice? To attract attention? Slam the competition? If it is the point then it is low-blow. Because of what he did should we declare this time an open-season to slam all gays, give them a hard time (although they do love "hard"), ostracize them, or make them feel like second-class citizens?

Someone posted this in another forum:

Quote:

Marami na talaga siyang nasasakatan. He's making fun at the expense of others which is not a good comedy. Nilalait niya yung kulay ni Nancy Binay and while people are laughing biglang nag-focus yung camera sa isang black African or American na nasa audience.

Vice Ganda made mention of GMA News' Jessica Soho during a portion of his concert wherein he joked about her weight saying that whenever she would step on a weighing scale, the machine would complain repeatedly, “One at a time, one at a time.” He added that should there be a launching movie for Soho, it will be titled "Tinimbang Ka Ngunit Sobra."

Vice also made a rape joke about Soho saying that any rape scene involving her would definitely be a gang rape. He added that the rapists would say: “Ipasok ang lechon!”

Soho's co-pillar Arnold Clavio, also made mention of the incident on his radio program One on One this morning challenging Vice Ganda: “Papatulan ko na siya kasi pag di natin siya sinita, hindi natin alam sino pa’ng isusunod niyang biktimahin. Si Nancy Binay noon, tapos si Jessica Soho."

Clavio also added: “Bakit mo binibiktima ang mga taong seryoso sa trabaho nila? Huwag mo silang kasangkapanin para lang makapagpagpatawa. Bakit hindi taga-diyan sa inyo ang gawin mong subject ng jokes mo? Baki hindi taga-ABS? Hindi ba bullying ang ginawa niya kay Jessica Soho?"

There's nothing wrong with a comedian making jokes but rape is indeed a very sensitive subject and rape jokes aren't funny. Public personalities like Vice Ganda should be considerate of other people's feelings, like the rape victims. He should also always consider that a fraction of his audience are those from the younger demographics who may get (negatively) influenced by what he's saying on-air. Sure, it happened in a concert, but in this day and age of sharing and liking, it wouldn't be a surprise if it gets viral. Each networks should be accountable for their talent's actions. Regardless of Ms. Soho's size, no one can deny that she's a first-rate journalist and one of the BEST in the industry. Her recent win as Reader's Digest 2013 Trusted Brand for TV host in News and Current Affairs category can attest to that.

Why did Vice choose Jessica Soho as the subject of that rude skit? There are a few people on his home network who are also overweight!

Example:
Edgar Mortiz
Cherry Pie Picache
Kat De Castro

The fact that Jessica Soho is in the News and Public Affairs Department of a certain institution means that she has a name and dignity to protect.
