MonteMaria, Tagaytay City

I took these pictures of MonteMaria when we went to Tagaytay. It is located in Alfonso, Cavite. Doubleclick the images to make them bigger. This is where Fr. Suarez, the famous Healing Priest, holds his Sunday service. On this site will rise the Oratory of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Inspired by Rio de Janeiro’s Christ the Redeemer, Fr. Suarez envisioned a place to be known as the Oratory of the Blessed Virgin Mary with a majestic statue of Mary, the tallest in the world, standing on a mountain "like a beacon of light, a proclamation of love and faith, a steadfast companion," her gaze benign, her hands raised in loving benediction over her children. The land was donated by Danding Cojuangco Jr. Fr. Suarez only accepted 33 hectares of the land.

An engineer by profession, Fr. Suarez personally works with architects, engineers, sculptors and landscape artists to realize his vision of the Oratory. Its centerpiece, an image of Mary, Mother of the Poor will rest upon a multilevel pedestal.

Towering over the Tagaytay Ridge, the Oratory will command a majestic panorama of the famous Taal Volcano, the world’s smallest active volcano on serene Lake Taal.

The Oratory complex also features Stations of the Cross with larger-than-life-sized images, chapels, gardens, and huge concrete beads arranged around a kilometer-long processional road to form a giant rosary draped on landscaped slopes with the Basilica as its cross.

Among these chapels are replicas of two beloved Philippine pilgrim churches, the Minor Basilica of the Black Nazarene in Quiapo and the National Shrine of Our Mother of Perpetual Help in Baclaran, the Blessed Virgin Mary’s house in Ephesus, Scala Sancta in Rome and the Sto. Niño Chapel - a testament to the Filipino’s unique heritage of devotion to the Holy Child of Cebu.
