American Idol 10: Rumors and Changes

It's hard to believe that a new season of "American Idol" is just around the corner, but it's even harder to believe that the reality-TV ratings juggernaut has been around for a decade. If you have been living under a rock, American Idol is undergoing a lot of changes. One of them is they dropped the age requirement to 15, to make sure it doesn't miss out on a potential Justin Bieber. I would have wished for them to increase the age limit requirement and perhaps allow groups to the show specially with X Factor US giving Idol a run for its money. To celebrate the 10-year milestone, it was announced that, for the first time, "Idol" hopefuls can submit online audition videos to MySpace. From now through October 6, aspiring Kelly Clarksons and Chris Daughtrys between the ages of 15 and 28 (as of July 15, 2010) have the opportunity to submit an audition video. According to a news release from the network, entrants must demonstrate their "stellar singing ability by performing one of the songs from the approved list a cappella. Videos are limited to 40 seconds in length, and are limited to one submission per person. Auditions will be judged in a similar fashion to the live audition cities and a select number will advance to the next round of callbacks in Los Angeles." Idol is also going back to the 3-judge panel, not 4.

Simon Cowell left Idol to be in X Factor. Ellen DeGeneres is also living the show. In her blog, she said Idol was not the right fit for her. They tried to re-hire her but she declined. Kara DioGuardi, on the other hand, is rumored to have been fired. Her contract was not renewed. Of course, with Idol, nothing is etched in stone. They could still re-offer her the job if no replacement judges sign up before the season starts. That leaves Randy Jackson as the only original judge. BUT...there are also rumors about him being axed.

As for the rumored replacement judges, one of them is Steven Tyler of the famous Aerosmith and father of Liv Tyler, the actress (famous for her role Lord of the Rings). The Aerosmith rocker is the only candidate who hasn't completely avoided the issue. When asked about his possible new gig recently, Tyler gave a candid, confident response:
"Probably going to be a judge on 'American Idol,' " Tyler said. "I'm doing it! What do you think?"

J Lo (Jennifer Lopez) is also rumored to be one of the replacement judges to take the place of Ellen. Spokespeople for "Idol" offered a no comment on the J. Lo rumors, and the "Jenny From the Block" singer's reps didn't return requests for comment, though an unnamed source told the L. A. Times that Lopez's camp is holding up final negotiations by trying to sweeten her package with perks including a development deal at Fox. Her camp is also reportedly waiting to gauge public reaction to the leaking of the news about her possibly joining the "Idol" cast.

Other rumored judges are Jessica Simpson, Elton John, Justin Timberlake, Usher and even Paula Abdul.

The X Factor UK is an awesome program. I will definitely be watching the US version of that show and can't wait. It's a much better program than Idol and Simon will be on it. Yeah! Idol will, indeed, get that pump at first next season because of people tuning in to see the new judges and new contestant lineup, but when X Factor hits the small screen, it might be all over for Idol. It will never achieve it's former glory.

The also eliminated the celebrity judges. There will be an in-house mentor instead from the industry. My only problem is I do not like J Lo and I think Tyler's bandmates think this is upsetting.

Is Ryan Seacrest Leaving 'Idol'?
Report: Reality TV host in talks to develop own competition series
By Tim Kenneally
The Wrap

In a move that could signal his departure as the host of "American Idol," Ryan Seacrest and his production company are talking with NBC about developing anothere musical competition series, the New York Post reports.

NBC's head of alternative programming, Paul Telegdy, told the paper that the proposed project -- said to be still in the embryonic stages of development -- would be "another music concept, which is a totally different kind of competition show."

So how would it differ from Seacrest's current gig? According to Telegdy, "It is self-contained episodes. It is a bit more fun. It's not contestant competitive. It's artist competitive."

So would Fox and "Idol's" producers be cool with Seacrest producing -- or even hosting -- a show that might have similar themes?

At least the Post, which headlined its report, "Is Ryan Seacrest Preparing to Leave 'Idol'?" thinks it might be.

Seacrest has only one year left on his contract with CKX, the parent company of "Idol" producer 19 Entertainment -- a $45 million deal he signed back in July 2009

Seacrest has so many producing irons in the fire right now -- including ABC's "Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution" and the seemingly ever-expanding Kardashians stable of shows on E! -- that it's difficult to imagine him picking up another one without spontaneously combusting.

Seacrest's Ryan Seacrest Productions already has a deal to develop eight new shows for the network.

This might be the reason why Kara left the show or was let go. Read the last paragraph:

Kara DioGuardi: I Was Date Raped by Well-Known Music Producer
From: http://www.popeater.com/2011/04/18/kara-dioguardi-date-raped/

In her soon-to-be-released memoir, former 'American Idol' judge Kara DioGuardi reveals she was molested as a child and date raped by a well-known music producer, E!Online.com reports.

In the book, 'A Helluva High Note,' DioGuradi opens up about a family friend's son who repeatedly molested her when she was only 11. "On one particular day, he took me into the back shed of his house and put his hands all over my breasts and vagina," she writes. "I remember freezing and not knowing what to do."

DioGuardi, whose new Bravo show 'Platinum' debuts next month, also reveals how a well-known producer date raped her after dinner. "Within a few hours, he was on top of me, pumping, sweating, and speaking to me in Spanish, not a word of which I could understand," she writes.

The former 'Idol' judge said she never told anyone for fear it would affect her career.

DioGuardi also reveals in her book that a "hugely successful artist" sexually harassed her a few years later. She was invited on a three-day songwriting trip but instead of actually writing songs, "the trip's activities consisted of watching Russian porn, scavenging around the kitchen for food [and] leering at two strippers ... as they performed sex acts in the living room."

She also discusses her struggles with getting pregnant during her final season of 'Idol.' She ended up asking the producers to let her out of her contract. "I wanted a child and there was no way I could get pregnant under the stress of eighteen-hour work days and live TV," she writes. "I had undergone three unsuccessful rounds of IVF during Season 9."

I also read in another article that Kara also said that during the pre-public voting stage of AI, the show execs did some judging on their own, bypassing the real judges, and eliminated some contestants. These really surprised her and the other judges.
