How much hope do you have about the Philippines ever improving?

How much hope do you have indeed for the Philippines to change for the better? We just had an election and we voted for a new president and voted out most of the old politicians. There is now a new majority in Congress. What else do we need for change to happen so we can see improvements in our economy, how the government conducts business, in improving the plight of the poor, in increasing employment and foreign investments, in beautifying and greening our environment, etc?

Post your thoughts and suggestions?

Read what a foreigner posted about what he thinks of our country:

....yes I have seen a lot of the Philippines and the country does have much going for it.
But in the time I have been here I think many things have gone backwards rather than improving.
Hopefully the new goverment might turn things around but I doubt it - the same old faces are still there in Congress and the Senate.

The only real way to improve or change a country is by educating the children of today. Unfortunately the educational system is a failure with not enough classroom or teachers & textbooks with hundreds of errors in them. It won't matter if they extend the schooling by another 2 years if the children still don't learn anything.

Someone shouted me down once before for saying that most Filipinos do not know how many centavos there are in a peso, but I have asked hundreds and most do not know. Or try asking what time the 7:30 AM bus leaves. You will get answers like every 30 minutes or when it's full !! Which is probably the correct answer LOL...

I read this too....really embarrasing:

BOBO COPS
by Happy Seeking on Thu, 08/26/2010 - 10:03

There are some news circulating that a movie will be made, entitled: "BOBO COPS" translated in English as "STUPID COPS." It's indeed very sad, because it was shown on TV worldwide, & it is evident how stupid our cops are. And the worst part is our own president did not even do anything. What kind of president do we have? If he cannot handle a simple hostage crisis, how can he handle the tons of problems of our country. It a big shame.

Kung nakakahiya si Kris Aquino because of what happened to her marriage (it was much publicized which has damaged her private life & destroyed the reputation of the Aquino family), I think what happened in the hostage-taking was worse, more shameful to Nonoy Aquino, because he put our country to shame. He also put the dignity and plight of the many OFW in HongKong at risk. It's really terrible, and I hope the president realize that. So much damage has been done.

Most Filipinos will agree that many things need to be done to better the country but I think the main problem is the "bahala-na" mentality most have. This is how it has been for them and they accept it. Maybe it is fear of being too outspoken as one has a tendency disappear in such cases.

If greed and corruption are not at least reduced or addressed, I don't expect much change ever happening. Very unfortunate as so many deserve much better.

We also need to change our Constitution as that 60-40% restriction against foreign investors is not seen as an incentive by investors.

The president needs to also have sound and creative economic policies to get the economy going and at the same time help the most destitute of the poor.

Our government agencies need to have more computerized systems so people wanting to get involved in business do not have to physically go to the government offices to apply for applications to start a business, apply for clearances, etc....online applications should be an option to business people.

With Duterte heading our government I now have better hope that things will change or move in the right direction. I'm so glad N0Y & his gang are gone. But there are still LP politicians in our midst (in the Senate, the House of Reps, in our courts and media). VP Leni could be a president-in-waiting. Let's pray for our president. In a few weeks of his presidency there are so many things he has done already. Compare that to the last pwesident. No comparison at all.

I have renewed hope now for things to improve overall in our country now that Duterte is at the helm. Never again will I vote for any yellows, with the exception of Lacson.
