[ooc]I am from a place where English isn't native. I prefer to use British spellings, pronunciations, and colloquialisms.[/ooc]

It could be argued that since Neo-English, the dominant language of the galaxy, is mostly based on ancient American English, the American spellings and pronunciations are at least as correct, even if only because of their popularity. After all, the only reason people begin formal letters with 'Dear', even those to bitter enemies, is because they believe that if everyone else does it that it must be necessary.

I was talking to some Chinese people while I was on holiday, and they told me that they wanted to speak English English, not American English. I don't know if that was anti-americanism or what, but I'm led to believe that it's the general view of most people who learn English as a second language in foreign countries.

I've decided I want to learn Mandarin (mainly out of shame that so many Chinese people I know speak good English!). Apparently it will be obscenely difficult, so I suspect this is kind of a new years resolution type decision.

Anyway, I'm feeling guilty about derailing this topic (even though it may well be just about done - I don't think anyone's talking about TGR's honour anymore...).

So now non-majorities represent majorities?

P.S TGR is very very honorable. :$

To stop the argument though:

[12:53:15] <`\> Is The Fall's main language (IC) closer to American or British English?
[12:53:26] <~JohnMikhailovich> Are you Cripple?
[12:53:29] <`\> No
[12:53:36] <`\> I'm Moraeth
[12:53:39] <~JohnMikhailovich> Well I'm an American
[12:53:40] <~JohnMikhailovich> So
[12:53:48] <~JohnMikhailovich> I write The Fall in American-English.
[12:54:03] <~JohnMikhailovich> IC
[12:54:08] <`\> Can I quote you on that?
[12:54:20] <~JohnMikhailovich> If oyu must, I saw the thread.
[12:54:25] <~JohnMikhailovich> I was going to comment eventually.
....
[12:56:49] <~JohnMikhailovich> I will not be placing a restriction on which version of English you can use on the forums.

Furthermore, I'd like to state now that Kantus, Edictus, and Arthran will all invariably define honor differently. Therefore, it could well be said that TGR has no honor by Kantus standards. However, I'm sure that by Edictus standards TGR is more honorable than all of Kantus.

American or British English, what does it matter, so long as you write in good English?

As for the honor thing- yesterday in the midst of the days attacks, I came upon a Reaver who was unable to recall his armies to home due to a bugged navigation computer (OOC- he couldn't access his planet page). Most of his fleets and armies were far from home razing an Edictus planet, while my forces had moved in destroyed the garrison and were already on the ground before the bug hit. I could have wrecked the place before he returned, but instead, I recalled my forces.

By the same token, the very same bug hit while I was reorganizing my defensive fleet deployments, leaving a large gap in my defenses that could have easily been exploited while I waited for JM to repair things. Yet the Reaver chose to not take the gap and allowed me to return, log in and reset my defenses properly. I doubt that this is the end of the fighting between us, we both can find softer targets to pillage, but given our low strength and large armies, it is likely that we will fight again in the future, hopefully in the next round it will be on a level playing field.

I may not be all that honorable by many standards (I tend to troll more in The-Fall for some reason), and Reaver cannibalism certainly wouldn't make my list of acceptable practices, but I'd like to think that with all differences aside, it boils down to mutual respect; strategic and tactical exploits are in play and to be applauded (the Reaver in question turned my alliance leader's planet into a smoldering ruin), while software exploits are out of play and to be avoided.

Honor is determined person to person, not alliance to alliance for the simple fact no matter what is said, one will be able to point out someone in that alliance whom will defy the honorable mention. So that is moot.

In the same light as you have spoken Artic, no 1 but 5 Edictus did the exact same to my planet, coupled with me being LoA. As it was explained to me, it was a concentrated effort (bravo on that). As JM can attest, I specifically asked him to do nothing with resetting my planet, just make it so I could access it again. When I could, I had over 50k soldiers on my planet. Its part of the system and it something we all have to deal with. Call it a casualty of war.

Summary, if you description of honor is caught up in bugged coding, then everyone is a victim of dishonor.

I'd say that my description had more to do with honor being tied to the notion of fair play and mutual respect.

You and I have fought before, but I doubt either of us would find any sense of accomplishment in razing the others planet while they were away on vacation.
