OOC: Actually, the proportion of players lobbying for the Red Doves was in excess of 80%. I had to tone it down to make it more realistic, and represent the surprising amount of Singularity and Minarchist lobbying mail I recieved. IC to follow:

The new majority leader for the Red Doves, Congressman Rasul Tahan, has prepared a statement for the first meeting of the Second Congress of the Edictus, currently in session:

"Change, they say, is good. As I stand before you today, I can point out fifty one faces out of our new crowd of one hundred. Those fifty one faces are members of the Red Dove Party, and they are here to help you, Earth!"

-Momentary round of cheering, subsides with Tahan's gesture.

"Our constituents, to their credit, did what they thought was best for the defense of Earth, the defense of the Edictus. But their time has passed, their policies will be reversed, their decisions overturned. Where Edictus worlds were threatened for not following obscure capital doctrine, we will speak and reason with them so that they might understand why we do what we do. We will be the party of new beginnings.

Let me also clear the air now: we should not, cannot, and will not pursue peace with the Kantus - not so long as they are led by the King of Man. The massacre of trillions cannot be met with any action save justice for those responsible - nary a man in the Edictus would tell you otherwise.

-Clapping, cheering drowns out Tahan's next words, subsides after several minutes.

To our client worlds, our client alliances, we ask that speak to us. (OOC: PM or query Alteron) Tell us where you feel the Edictus should move, and we will guide it there, for our charge is not just over Earth but indeed a third of our entire galaxy. The people of Earth have not forgotten this responsibility, and indeed shall be rewarded for it. The Edictus has been the superpower of the galaxy for three millenia now: the power is in our hands to change the course of the galaxy forever. As for myself and the Red Doves, we will keep all options on the table, save peace with the Kantus.

Change, they say, is good. Let us now proceed with the first session of the Second Congress. Let us get work done. Thank you, goodnight.

OOC:Is Earth that susceptible to lobbying?

They're all intrasense addicts. The Kantus have been trying for years to hack the Earth system intrasense network and thus decide who will win the elections for themselves.

Uh, BTW, I'm suddenly wondering- were Kantus and Arthran planets allowed to influence the elections? It would seem a bit odd for a planet that was ruled by a military junta until 5 years ago, when the junta willingly allowed democratic elections, to be allowing enemies to donate to campaigns...

I do like the outcome, though... if the Kantus were influencing elections the any-option-but-peace-with-Kantus speech was a great backfire for them, though it probably wasn't intended as such. ;)

Also yeah, it does seem to be a tad bit oversusceptible by lobbying. Certainly it should have an influence but counted as the % of votes? Maybe you should just make these "Edictus elections" and say that Earth is just the capital of Edictus, in the same way Washington is the capital of the U.S. but the other 50 states can still vote in the elections- the military and whatnot of the Edictus "federal government" is just listed as "Earth" stuff for game mechanics purposes. I mean, isn't a lot of that stuff generated by taxes from Edictus worlds or something?
In fact, maybe the other Edictus planets could lobby in a political party on the platform of allowing that next election, though it would likely be something like they only officially count for, say, half of the total outcome, with the people of Earth still controlling the other half- maybe a two-house legislature or maybe some voting method that works it out that way.

Oh, also- go Singularity but, meh, I think Minarchist is an issue with including a present-day philosophy which only appeared a couple centuries ago in elections set 3000 years in the future... as in, that's what it is.
