Earth elections are coming up, and your planet can influence them and the policy of how Earth uses its dubiously large force of battleships, fighters, and AMWs in the future! Through the power of lobbying! I'd suggest looking over Edictus political information HERE, but will provide some basics below this post.

How can your fine world affect the outcome of Earth's elections, you ask? Simple! Since this is more experiment than proven process, for now you can send an e-mail to alteron@the-fall.net with the subject line as the party you would like to see gain the majority in the elections. Nothing more, nothing less, just an e-mail with the subject as the party you want to see in power.

In addition, I would like Edictus alliance leaders and just Edictus players to query me on IRC when possible to give their opinion on who they want to gain majority, as Edictus worlds are more capable of lobbying their own capital.

The people of Earth will have the final say, of course, but your lobbying e-mails will represent campaign donations, ad campaigns, intrasense broadcasts, and door-to-door groups which will push your party on the voters.

Isn't it great to have democracy? Lobbying begins now, elections are at some point during the week. (Wednesday?)

QUICK PARTY INFO FOR LOBBYING:

Singularity Party, 2% currently: Most likely to attempt to boost client worlds' technology level and attempt a Singularity. Would likely stay out of current conflict unless either side possessed evidently superior technology Edictus could acquire.

Interventionist Party, 5% currently: Most likely to intervene militarily in Edictus client worlds who do not follow Edictus policy. Would likely declare on Kantus.

Isolationists United, 7% currently: Most likely to declare neutrality in the Kantus-Arthran war and pull client worlds out of fighting.

Minarchist Party, 8% currently: Most likely to shrink Edictus government and remove restrictions on what client worlds can and cannot do. Would have no stance on Kantus-Arthran conflict.

Red Dove Party, 21% currently: Most likely to open peace dialogues between Edictus and other factions while keeping limited to total war an open possibility with either faction.

Terra United, 57% currently: Party of Miranda Nethun, most likely to enter total war against Kantus while offering minimal to no support to the Arthran. Currently in power.

This will be interesting to see what will happen to Edictus players and their client worlds. Good luck in the elections.

OOC: It does seem somewhat reminiscent of the current German elections, coincidentally.

Hey Mi-ran-da Ne-thun, An-gel-a Mer-kel. It's even the same syllable pattern. :P

IC: I bet that if TU lost their majority share they'd go into coalition with pretty much any party that could keep them in power. Probably the interventionists, or a grand coalition with the red doves.

We have good political analysts on Neriad. The Commonwealth of Neriad itself is democratic, even if the Kantus as a whole are ruled by the King of Man. That just makes for good, strong coalition policy on the war, while keeping regional government flexible.

OOC: Absolutely no connection to the German elections, actually... >_>

The Minuteman Party of New Francisco has entered coalition with the federal-level Minarchist Party, with Leader Mercutio Midas actively campaigning for Minarchist candidates in Altair District in coordination with the recently-publicized Declaration of Equality. A minority of the Minuteman Party plans on supporting Singularity in the Edictus elections.

The only other major party on New Francisco, the Libertarian Greens, is campaigning for Isolationists United.

New Francisco's otherwise-fractious main parties are in full agreement, for once, on the need to avoid a Kantus war and to get Nethun out of government, and both the Minutemen and the Lib Greens plan to lobby their Edictus counterparts to enter into coalition with each other and anyone else necessary to block another Nethun term.

The Galactic Republic has chosen to lobby and support the Red Doves in the upcoming election. We have been vigorously campaigning for them. We see a need to remove Nethun, and hope that the majority of the Congress can be wrested from her party. That is all.

OOC: I guessed it wasn't deliberate, hence my wording 'coincidentally'.

The German elections are so boring that no-one outside Germany knows or cares about them, with the exception of me. I only know because I was on a plane, very bored, and read an article about them yesterday.

BTW, how do the various delegates get elected, and do they have responsibility for a particular planet or group of planets that elect them? I'd have thought the obvious would be to have one delegate per Edictus world, but it clearly doesn't work like that. I'm guessing perhaps a proportional vote system, with every elegible citizien on every Edictus world voting for a party rather than a candidate, with the actual members being chosen from party lists?

IC: Melutar, trust me. We Kantus know president Nethun - she will do anything to hold on to power. Even if the Red Doves take away Terra United's overall majority, TU will just go into coalition with other parties, and as the largest of the parties in the coalition, Terra United's leader, president Nethun, will be president again. The other parties might gain control over a few important ministries, nothing more.

The only other way is to get all the other parties to form a super-coalition, having taken the majority from TU, and get them to form a government. But such a coalition would have little cohesion - the constituent parties would be far to disparate to work together; even if the Red Doves took all the important ministeries, which is unlikely, getting consensus during any vote would be difficult, and the Edictus would have an ineffective government.

As a Kantus member world, Neriad likes that idea. We support your campaign.

{OOC - I pay attention to the German elections as much as I pay attention to the Bundesliga, which is to say zealously. Blanket assumptions are the path of the devil, much like the SDP. ;) }

Ultimately, whatever party does or does not win the election is irrelevant to the interests of the Blood God. If your leaders are chosen in a bloodless manner, then they will view all things behind a curtain of comfort and lose track of the manner of things. The "government" of Terra would garner more respect from Kalamity Godarce if one of their candidates staged a military coup and seized true power, instead of simpering to the cattle to decide.

OOC: But the question is, are you German/resident in Germany? You'll notice I qualified my assertion. ;)

IC: I disagree, my Kantus ally. In the absence of any true right to rule, such as our King has, the closest the Edictus ruler can come to a legitimate government is having the will of the people behind them. Leaving aside the fact that the will of the people is dictated by the propoganda that is fed to them, via intrasense, it is the best they can do, until they accept the rule of the King.
