This is GNS. Real. Current. News. As you may know, GNS was recently targeted by hackers from a rogue "journalism" group. The incident involving the death of a prominent Brandfall orator on live feed was declared to be their work during the incident itself. Naturally, GNS would like to apologize for this incident. We have switched information security contractors and tightened up all facets of network security following this episode. But today, we've got an interview with one of the "journalists" who was responsible for the incident. Intrasense initiating... The scene is a small, underground room somewhere in Edictus space. A tall, thin man in a black jacket is seated across a circular table from our young, nervous-looking GNS reporter. The thin man coughs. Shall we proceed then? Sure. I still don't know what this is about. I'm assuming it is about the intrasense virus. All right. And you're a hacker? Or just the reporter? We crack in to report that which commercial networks will not cover. I see. And you feel there are serious issues going on in the galaxy that are not being covered? Yes. It is not in the immediate financial interests of commercial networks to report certain issues. So why hack the major networks to do this? Why not start your own network? We have our own network on cloudnet, however, we do not have the resources and access to distribution at our disposal to adequately reach our audience on the extranet at large. UBF also operates on cloudnet. Over 99% of their peercasts never reach the extranet. So are you closely connected with Brandfall, then? We both use cloudnet. You do realize you may have harmed people in your attack, right? I am aware that we should have reviewed the contents of the file before we released it, however we had reason to believe it was from a reliable source. Cloudnet reaches beyond Brandfall and Umbrionage. It's peer list is expanding. So does Cloudnet cover news outside high-viewership areas? As users of cloudnet we utilise the power it offers to promote knowledge. I see. Well, we're out of time. Any last messages? The GNS reporter coughs twice. Seek truth and avoid people who think they know it. Earth Police rush into the room. They grab the "journalist", who begins yelling angrily. The feed fades back out to the GNS studio. Just a reminder. GNS does not under any circumstances condone hacking, and encourages everyone to ensure they are safe from those who spread an agenda of fear and chaos, be it on the extranet or in battleships. Next up: Is Fraunhofer's Syndrome on the wane? News at every :11. Got oil lying around in jars? Oil is still used on outlying planets as fuel. The Redemption Project wants you to donate your old oil to our bank, which sends it out to technologically poor worlds which still use oil for transportation. This is good for tax credits on many major worlds, so odds are you'll save money too. Our offices are located on over 200 planets. Intrasense terminating... |
