Intrasense still on, we're running all-Intrasense today...

Months ago, the Neraltia system was destroyed by its star unexpectedly going supernova. Now, we have reports that it may have only been the beginning. This is GNS. Real. Current. News.

Are auroras appearing where they never have before on your planet? They may look pretty, but don't be deceived. These auroras are indicators of a sharp spike in geomagnetic activity being reported on worlds across the galaxy, throughout all factions. Several prominent scientists from Edictus and Arthran worlds have linked this activity to an increase in solar output from stars, quasars, and other stellar objects.

This geomagnetic activity is also shorting out your communications, killing satellites across the galaxy. At least one brain-copy AI has "perished" as a direct result of this phenomenon. But the danger isn't just to AIs.

Professor Daniel Barnassi of the Terra Ad Astra Institute, the galaxy's foremost astrophysical research organization since the early Edictus era, has conclusively linked this incident to the destruction of Neraltia. We'll be going live with him on Earth in just a minute.

The familiar GNS newsroom smoothly fades into a marble room where a GNS reporter is seated with Dr. Barnassi in front of a huge metal statue of Atlas supporting a model of the Terran solar system.

Dr. Barnassi, you've claimed that the destruction of Neraltia is related to the recent surge in geomagnetic activity. How is this?

Well, Neraltia's star's output abruptly began increasing, like these stars are doing, shortly before it went supernova. We've carefully watched the background radiation from just before the supernova.

So would you say that there is a risk of these stars sharing the Neraltia system's fate?

Absolutely. The Neraltia system may have been just the first in a series of supernovae which could wipe out any number of stars anywhere in the galaxy. We're still researching this phenomenon. We don't know what's causing it.

Do you have any advice for our viewers, for their safety?

I wish I did. There's really no way of knowing if and where this might happen again. But I would encourage any travelers to avoid planets experiencing geomagnetic surges and stars that had suddenly increased output.

Thanks. I'm Uri Mzasky here with Dr. Daniel Barnassi for GNS.

The GNS studio appears to fly in sideways.

Thank you Uri. We'll keep you all posted on this mysterious phenomenon. Updates will be available as they come exclusively through GNS and allied services. Next up- Is Edictus as unified as it claims? News at every :11.
