Skarin kept his hold stiff. He hesitated for a second after the man replied. He felt some anger brewing in him once more. "What are you talking about, you little shit? You don't know nothing about my employers. Do you want me to break you in half?" He released Burne abruptly and let him fall to the floor. He rubbed his hands together as he stepped away from Burne.
Don't listen to him. He's got the tongue of a trickster. You need this information - or at least a lead of some sort. Get it done so you can go home and have a drink.

Skarin paced back and forth unhurriedly, casually cracking his knuckles as he did. Your scared brain against my fists, eh? Is that how it's going to be? Skarin thought to himself. "Listen, Burne, I don't want any of your damned theorizing. I'm the one asking the questions here. Now, I thought you were a valuable source of information. Is that the truth, or is it okay for me to -" he chuckled - "to mess with you?" He stopped pacing and watched the man intently.

Burne watched him and fell to the floor when he released him, slowly standing up, still backed against the wall. He watched him pacing, the smile still slightly on his face. But, when he spoke of messing with him, it made him worry again. What did he mean by that? Surely he didn't mean torture? Burne's worried expression returned again, the fear again rising to the surface. "What? What do you mean mess with me? I said I don't know." He said in a quiet but panicked voice.

Skarin eyed the scared Michael Burne. He tried to weigh his options.
The man's scared out of his mind. He must be telling the truth. He saw me blow through that guard - there's no way he'd be lying after that. Right? Skarin mumbled quietly. Get something out of him, Skar. Maybe he doesn't know when and where, but he's got to know something.

Skarin pointed at the floor. "Sit down," he ordered. He was beginning to feel rushed - the concern that someone might arrive on the scene any moment began to grow in his mind. Stay in control, Skar. It's past midnight. No one's coming over now. He folded his arms across his chest.
"Who's they? Who are the ones that tell you where these meetings are going to be?" Skarin unfolded his arms and made a threatening fist with his right hand. "You give me something good, Burne, or else it's gonna be a long night. Where do they usually meet?"

Burne sat and looked around the room. He was wondering what he could possibly do to get out of this situation. "I answer to my boss. He is one of the 20 government officials, but they only gave me a number, not a name. They call him 13, I'm guessing thats the number he was assigned when chosen as an official." He managed to say to the intruder. He didn't know what else he could get away with telling. It seemed that even in this government of democracy that people were very unforgiving.

"Look, you tell me what I want to know and you get out of this predicament. That's the deal. I know you're hiding things from me. What's the point?" Skarin raised his arms and shrugged. "No one but me and my client is gonna know what you've said. You'll go to hospital, you'll get your house fixed up, and we'll write your name in on our list of cooperators. That means we'll leave you be."

Skarin knew that he couldn't honestly promise that Burne would be looked upon favorably, of course, but the official's assistant had no idea who Skarin was or how much power he had. Besides, he seemed scared enough to believe anything.

"Keep your eyes on me,"
Skarin told Burne, making a two-fingered gesture between his own eyes and Burne's. "Keep your eyes on me," he said again, "and tell me everything you know about where this meeting might be, what they'll be doing there, and whether or not you can figure out where it is in the next few minutes. You tell me about those little things, and I'm out of your hair." Skarin opened his arms as if they were a gateway. "You'll be free."

Burne's eyes were fixed on Skarin's. He stared deeply into his eyes, focusing only on him and his words. Maybe he was right. It was obvious that no one was going to help him now, and odds were, if he did help they would leave him alone. If they wanted him dead, he would already be a corpse. "Alright, i'll tell you. The meeting is in the 3rd sector, taking place in a large abandoned warehouse. The place will likely be filled with guards and surrounded by guards as well. Its likely that the guards will be hidden too. Its supposed to take place tomorrow night at 10:00 A.M." He said quietly to him, speaking quietly and clearly to ensure that he understood him. He was still afraid, but now he hoped he could at least escape with his life.

Skarin clasped his hands together somewhat excitedly. "That's good, Burne, that's good. You're just a minute or two away from having your house to yourself again." Skarin removed the paper of orders he had received from his pocket and looked it over, squinting to see better in the poor light. "Tomorrow at 10 A.M., eh?" He scanned the orders briefly then put them back in his pocket. "Sector 3 in an abandoned warehouse. Heavily guarded. 10 A.M." Skarin nodded as he repeated the information.

He leaned over and gave Burne a pat on the shoulder. "You sure that's all accurate? I don't want to have to waste more of both of our lives by coming back here." Skarin began checking that he had all of his things together. He could really feel the aches and sores from his fight with the body guard now. His face felt like it had been hit by a train, and he would savor the opportunity to sit down and use his abilities as a Beast to mend his body. He needed to focus for that, though - it was a psychic ability that he forced upon himself, and he was not much of a natural. Berserking was more his thing.

"Is the info correct?" he asked again. "Remember what's at stake here. Give us the truth and your life is in your hands. Give me bad info and your life is in my hands."

Burne looked at him worriedl. Although he felt relieved that he was apparently going to leave shortly, he still felt a little afraid of him. What if he didn't believe him for some reason? "Yes, thats all I know and its accurate. Its just what they told me." He said quietly, his voice more calm and back to normal now. He really wanted to just get his house back to normal and go back to sleep.

Standing up straight, Skarin nodded his head once again. He dusted himself off and took a quick look at his coat.
"Won't be wearing this in public any more." The red cape on his back was dirty and torn. He looked at Burne, gesturing towards him and bowing slightly.
"You have a nice night, Mr. Burne." He glanced into the kitchen, spotting a side door through which he could exit.
Knives? Check. Cape and mask? Check. Orders? Check. Now I'll head down to Sector 5 and deliver the information. Another payment will be coming my way, and soon enough... they'll remember my name.

Skarin made his exit quickly, jogging to the door and unlocking it, at last leaving the Burne household and feeling the cold night air on his hands again. He hopped over Burne's wall and turned his jog into a sprint, bounding down a few streets, keeping his eyes open to make sure no one could spot him. He hopped behind a nearby bush on one of the lawns of the houses nearby to remove his sock mask.

He took off the uncomfortable head gear and took another drink from his canteen. "Ah," he sighed in relief, savoring the moment of relaxation. "Better keep moving." His mind wandered to the thought of whiskey at home. Keeping with his speedy pace, Skarin tucked away his sock mask and found the portal down to Sector 8. Most people took the elevators that were installed for these higher levels, but Skarin believed he could be faster on the stairs. He dashed down the stairwell, jumping over several steps at a time to be efficient.

He was soon at Sector 8's level, but the portal descended all the way down to Sector 6, so he continued to follow the stairs. Eventually, he reached Sector 6, panting for breath as he came out the door and back into the night air.
Now I can take a shuttle to Sector 5 and get into that safehouse. Skarin unfolded the map that was in his pocket and tried to gauge the best route. He walked as he did so, heading in the direction of one of Haven's shuttle stops. When he arrived, he sat on the bench, waiting impatiently and tapping his foot.

He spotted the shuttle down the other end of the street. It was hovering, inching its way over to the shuttle stop where Skarin was waiting.
Come on; I don't have all night.

Skarin stood up and began pacing. At last the shuttle arrived and he climbed on board. He didn't acknowledge the driver and took his seat in the middle of the vehicle without hesitating. It was dark inside, save for a few dim lights, and he made out the appearance of the other passengers with some difficulty. All of them seem tired, save for a few giggling girls towards the back, who had apparently been having a fairly nice night clubbing.

Aside from the girlish chatter, the ride was silent. Skarin sniffed the scent of alcohol radiating from the party girls. He thought of his whiskey at home again. Oh, I'll sleep well tonight, he told himself.

Finally, the shuttle reached his stop, and the women in the back giggled as he stood up. He turned around briefly and gave them a wink and a suave point of the finger. He then continued on his way out of the shuttle, having turned their giggles to laughter. Skarin smiled as he stepped out onto the curb. The safehouse wasn't far from here. He referenced the map for good measure, but he knew the general direction. He weaved his way in a power walk down a few streets and covered a few blocks distance before arriving at a very inconspicuous building.
"Here we are." He made his way to the door and knocked.

The door slowly swung open as a large booming voice spoke. "Enter." It said simply. He had been expected for some time. Another much quiet and less intimidating sounding voice rang out afterward. "What took you so long, buddy? Jeez, I could have had this assignment done hooooouuuurrsss ago." The voice said sarcastically, heavily emphasizing the word "hours". It wasn't very often that people under Vera's service made friends. But, this particular man thoroughly enjoyed making friends. A short man in a dark black suit and tie stood inside, standing next to a chair with a large beared man sitting in it. The beared man glared at him, waiting for him to enter. "I trust you have the information we seek." He said sternly, his heavy voice echoing through the room.
