Skarin ran his eyes over the document of orders he had been given once more.
Infiltrate the home of a Michael Burne... Location of the next government meeting.. Information... back to client. DO NOT KILL THE TARGET... You are permitted to kill any resistance other than the target.

Skarin sighed, taking a quick gulp of the water in his canteen. He had himself a few harder drinks the night before, but tonight could mean some tricky work, and he wanted to be in impressive shape, so he kept away from alcohol for now. He could celebrate afterward.

He was seated in a bench, near a well-trimmed, pretty patch of grass. One of his legs was crossed over the other, but he put it back down as he now stood up and briefly stretched his arms and back. He took a deep breath of the night air. He was well-groomed, with his hair styled fashionably, and he wore a handsome red and gold coat, buttoned up from his waist to his neck. His pants were ironed and black, and to finish off his flashy look, he had a long, red cape on his back.

He removed a folded map from his pocket and gauged the direction, then began heading towards the home of Mr. Burne.

Mr. Burne sat at the desk in his home, writing paper after paper about the previous government meetings. He hated that they had to meet in secret. Ever since it had been decided he felt like he had a big target on the back of his head. He glanced through the window, looking at the usually busy streets of the 9th sector. At least the police were nice enough to give him a bodyguard that was never more than 20 yards away at any time. Although, if Vera's men really wanted him dead he would probably already be dead. He now just had to wait to see what would happen. He had been safe so far, his bodyguard had managed to rip the last man to attack him to pieces. He still couldn't get the images out of his head. He could almost feel the blood running down his face as the memories come back to him. He shuddered and sighed to himself, beginning to work on his papers again.

Skarin strolled along with his hands in his coat pockets. He felt through the cloth, running his fingers over the unmistakable objects concealed beneath it - a pair of twin knives, sheathed in leather straps. He hoped he would be able to carry them both all the way into the Burne household, but on missions of such subtlety as this, their was always a chance he might have to dump them out somewhere along the way.

It used to make him nervous, carrying weapons through the streets. Nervousness, of course, was the best way to get caught with them. Over time, Skarin realized that it was less about keeping weapons covered up and more about acting like they weren't there. The illusion was in the confidence - the daring to go out so unacceptably armed without flinching or missing a beat.

Around one corner. The nighttime breeze was cool and fresh. Around another corner. The streets seemed quiet and unsuspecting. Up a small ramp. There was a howling of some dog in the distance. Clearly, there was no attention being spared for the insignificant assistant, Michael Burne.

This should be over in no time, Skarin thought to himself. The Burne residence was just ahead - Skarin noted the windows that revealed the lit streets on which he walked. He quickly but casually changed his direction in an attempt to get out of sight of the windows. Maybe he could find a less direct route inside than the front door.

As he worked, Burne couldn't help but feel like something was off. His bodyguard was still nearby, but was he nearby enough to be able to get to him in time? He was one of those "psychics" after all. He glanced at the clock above his study and sighed to himself, standing up and turning off the lamp on his desk. It was just about time to get some sleep. It would be good for him to count a few sleep before he began his paperwork again tomorrow. His boss sure did give him a lot of work to do. He went to his room and sat on his bed, turning on the television on the wall opposite him. The news was on, as it usually was. But, they weren't reporting anything unusual. He laid down and closed his eyes, not feeling like doing anything else at the moment. If he fell asleep, it would be fine, if not, he would have to get up and turn off the television. He usually could sleep with it on. A little white noise always helped him sleep.

Skarin made his way around the target's building, stepping onto a grass lawn that laid before a concrete wall that protected the back yard. He glanced around to ensure he wasn't being watched, then reached into his pants pocket and removed a sock mask that he had made earlier that day. It was hardly flattering, but it would do for the time being.

Slipping on his makeshift mask, Skarin took one more quick look around, then hoisted himself up and over the wall, using a small crack for support. He jumped down the other side, landing rather quietly on his feet in some well-trimmed grass.
"Not a bad place," he whispered to himself. He spotted flashing lights in one of the windows, so he cautiously crept toward the wall beside the window and pressed his back up against it.

Slowly, Skarin inched his head to the edge of the window and peered inside spotting a man - no doubt Michael Burne - laying back on his bed. He seemed to be asleep, but there was no way to tell for certain. Skaring decided to wait and listen for a minute or two to see if he could spot any others in the house.

Burne lay motionlessly in his bed, looking up at the ceiling vacantly. His thoughts wandered aimlessly like a small fish in and endless ocean. What if someone were indeed trying to kill him? Should he have hired more help? It seemed unlikely that anyone would get past such a brutish man, but who knew? He listened carefully, hearing the soft sound of a foorboard creeking in the next room. At least he knew his bodyguard was nearby. If anyone tried to attack him, they would likely be torn apart. He felt comfortable and safe in the man's capable hands. He slowly closed his eyes, and let himself fall into a shallow slumber.

Seeing little more of interest through the window aside from Burne, Skarin carefully backed away and scanned the building itself.
Windows could be a problem, he thought. He readjusted the mask on his head due to some discomfort. It was hardly appropriate for prolonged use.

Scratching his head for a moment, Skarin's eye caught some movement through another one of the windows. It was too dark to see anything clearly, but he could have sworn there was something in there. Deciding it best to keep himself hidden rather than investigate, he ducked low and went around the side of the house in search of a door - which he found. It was locked, but he should have expected that.

Was it best to break in? Skarin would have liked to do it that way, but that would limit his time with Burne by causing a commotion. Skarin was hardly used to thinking things through this much, as his abilities favored a more direct approach. However, if he could get into the house without much trouble, he was confident that everything would go smoothly from there.

Suddenly, an idea popped into his head. It was crude and risky, but Skarin was willing to take the chance. If anything went wrong, he believed he had the ability to escape. As quietly as possible, Skarin took a few steps back, then charged at the side of the house, using the wall to propel himself upwards. He managed to get a hand on the edge of the roof, though there was a slight thumping sound as his legs collided with the wall. He hoisted himself up quickly, kneeling on the roof and stalling for a moment to see if anyone came out to identify the noise.

A few heavy footsteps approached the window after he had made the sound. A large muscle bound man stood looking through the window. Even though it was pitch black outside he still wore dark sunglasses. He was also wearing a plain black suit, his arms crossing over his large chest. He didn't appear to be the kind of man one wishes to tangle with. After a few moments of looking and listening he turned around and walked back the other way, his footsteps heavy and slow.

Skarin kept his ears perked as he managed to discern the sound of footsteps from within the house below him. He leaned his head slightly over the side of the roof to see if he could spot anything. It was a difficult angle, but he could just about make out a figure of someone looking out one of the windows to his right. That's Burne - probably.

Skarin crawled with great concentration towards the center of the roof. One misplaced step and he could give away his position by being too loud. However, he was certain that this plan was the best approach, so he kept his eyes open, searching for...

He spotted it: a skylight. There were actually two of them, each of them rather small. He hadn't any idea what room they were built over, but he figured that he had to chance it. Skarin inched closer to the skylight, trying to stay low as to avoid blocking the light of the stars from entering the fixture, thereby arousing suspicion in anyone who might be inside the house. He withdrew one of his knives from beneath his coat and pressed the blade against the border of the skylight. He forced the steel against the acrylic rooftop window even harder, eventually managing to sever it from the roof itself.

He diligently and slowly worked the blade around the skylight, causing a very soft scratching noise, but one that he felt was okay to disregard. With a little sawing action, the skylight became displaced enough that he was able to remove it. He took a quick glance down the hole in the roof, but was unable to identify what room was below. He put the skylight gently back in place, such that it would be easy to remove in less than a second.

Skarin headed to the front of the building, checked quickly below to make sure he wouldn't land in front of any windows, then jumped down from the roof into a roll on the grass below to break his fall. He scrambled to his feet, his eyes darting around the streets in front of the house to ensure he hadn't been spotted. Once he felt safe, he walked back out on the sidewalk and looked for a way to cause a ruckus.

Fixing his eyes on a rather expensive-looking car nearby, Skarin clenched his fist. He looked around again to make sure no one was watching.
"Better make this quick," he muttered to himself. He approached the vehicle, wound up to strike it, then hit it hard on the driver's side door with his elbow, triggering the alarm system.

Skarin wasted no time, bolting from the beeping automobile and to the front door of Burne's house. Without thinking much, he knocked hard on the wooden door, pushed his finger on the doorbell, and then sprinted off. He hopped, using his physical prowess to get a lot of height, onto and then over the wall at the side of the house. Skarin then repositioned himself, performing the same acrobatics he had minutes before but with far greater haste to launch himself onto the roof again.

As he approached the skylight with great haste, he had little choice but to assume his "plan" was working. He removed the severed skylight and slipped down the hole, which was a few feet deep before opening up into a much wider room. It was dark, and he could not see much beneath him, but it was now or never...

He let himself drop, landing with a thud on the hard floor and brushing off the slight pain of the landing so that he could get to his feet again. He only hoped that the sounds outside and the doorbell had been enough of a distraction to guise his entrance.

When the alarm went off, Burne shot up from his bed, running to the window, looking at the vehicle. It was screaming high pitched squeels and alarms. The loud sounds were hurting his head. He turned and saw his door open, seeing his guard rush in to see if he was alright. "Go and check that out you buffoon!" He shouted to his bodyguard. The large brutish man nodded and headed outside through the backdoor between the two large windows in the kitchen. When he reached the car he looked down at it and sighed, drawing his hand up, slamming it down with is fist into the hood of the vehicle, making the loud noises slowly wir down and dissipate. He withdrew his hand and shook it off, a few bits of wiring clinging to him. Burne sighed with relief and sat on his bed. "Thank goodness. What the hell set that off?" He asked himself, looking out the window from his bed. He was a little worried now. He thought he had heard something, but imagined that it was nothing because of the alarm.

The large man slowly rentered the house, having found nothing that looked incriminating outside. "What is going on?" He asked himself, looking cautiously around the kitchen. Whatever caused it apparently wasn't in the house from here, and the front door was locked. So, if someone did enter the house, it would probably be from the living room, which was only about 10 feet from him through a thin wooden door. He stood in front of his master's door, watching the kitchen intently.
