Beginning in April, the United States will begin withdrawing ~8,000 soldiers per month for the established amount of 50,000 soldiers left in Iraq by September of this year. In September withdrawals will dramatically be decreased and all combat operations will stop by U.S. Military forces. By June of this year, the last of the additional 30,000 US Troops in Afghanistan will arrive. With June as the starting date, 18 months from then, a planed withdrawal from Afghanistan must be initiated. |

The Iraqi Withdrawal plan is continuing as scheduled. There are now 50,000 American soldiers left in Iraq solely for the purpose of training. Troop levels will continue to drop from now on, averageing from between 1,000 troops a month - 5,000. |

The Iraqi government is asked if they feel that a US military base in Iraq is necessary until Iraq's military is capable of home defense on its own. |

Iraqi officials tell the US in confidence...violence is more prevalent than during Saddam's reign, economic output has dropped, and our stability is...not optimal. We fear the government will fail if the U.S. withdraws.

How many soldiers do you think are necessary to ensure your governments survival? |

Minimally 15,000-20,000 but we'd prefer closer to 35,000-50,000. |

You wish for us to maintain our current contingency? Would a series of 3 bases in the North, Central and Southern parts of Iraq suffice, each with a garrison of 10,000? |

We can't make you do anything, but we feel Iraq is not able to stand without considerable support from the U.S. |

We were asking if you felt that would be suitable. |
