The great gates, guarded by the goddesses named the Seasons, open to permit the passage of the Celestials to earth, and to receive them on their return. Beyond them is a beautiful palace where Zeus, his wife Hera, and some lesser gods reside.

This side of the palace, facing the wild hills of Macedonia, has a beautiful banquet hall, kitchen, armory, workshops, and the servants' quarters. Past the kitchen and servants' quarters, towards the center of Mount Olympus, are situated cottages for lesser gods, as well as the stables, chariot sheds, and dog kennels. There is even a private zoo where the deities can keep their sacred animals.

Between these two sections of the palace is a square court, open to the sky, with private rooms on either side belonging to the other five Olympian gods and five Olympian goddesses. Zeus and Hera's thrones face down the Council Hall towards the door leading into the open courtyard, and along the sides of the hall stand ten other thrones, five on each side, each one belonging to the other ten main Olympians.

This side of the palace consists mainly of the private quarters of King Zeus and his wife Hera. They overlook the famous Greek cities of Athens, Thebes, Korinth, Sparta, Argos, and Mykenae.

Named after Athena, Athens is the true economic, political, and artistic center, and always on a constant war against Sparta. Poseidon and Athene competed for the honor of being the patron of the newly formed city; Poseidon created a salt pool but Athene won the competition by creating the olive tree. Both of these divine creations were worshipped in the Akropolis at a shrine.

Also known as the Labyrinth, Knossos is a beautiful, five stories high palace on Krete. It appears to be a maze of workrooms, living spaces, and store room close to a central square, and its walls are covered with detailed images. The labyrinth was constructed for King Minos of Krete and designed to hold the Minotaur, a creature that is half-man and half-bull.

Ephyra, later named Korinth, is one of the wealthiest and most powerful of the Greek cities, located on the Isthmus of Korinth, which connects the Greek mainland to the Peloponnesian Peninsula. Due to its location, the city is a thriving artistic center as well as a major trading hub.

The sanctuary where the Olympic Games are held, north of the Alfeios River and Mount Kronos. Enclosed within the temenos are the Temple of Hera and Temple of Zeus, where the sacrifices are made. The hippodrome and stadium are to the east. Olympia is also known for the giganctic ivory and gold statue of Zeus.

Sparta is the military power of Greece located by the river Eurotas. Its people are very proud and the city is known as the "city with invisible walls", because they sincerily believe that if they cannot defend their home with the strength of their army, and not stone walls, they do not deserve to be free. Unlike Athens, Sparta has never been adorned with eloberate temples or impressive architecture, because its inhabitans have a more practical outlook on life rather than obsessing with superficial displays of wealth and culture.

Thebes, the city of seven gates, was founded by the legendary Kadmus when he was searching for his sister Europa. After Zeus abducted Europa, the Pythia told Kadmus to leave the temple and follow a cow until it laid down to rest and there he would build a city. It is now a bustling market town.

Troy is a city between the rivers Kamandros and Simoeis that was founded by the grandson of Zeus, Tros, and thrived for three generations until the city was sacked under the reign of King Priam. It it a place of misfortune, ravaged many times by fires and foreign armies, and has been rebuilt numerous times.

For the price of one coin, the ferryman Kharon will help the newly deceased to cross a river that divides the world of the living from the world of the dead. Paupers, the friendless, and those who were left unburied gather forever on the near shore. The far side of the river is guarded by Kerberos, the three-headed guard dog of Hades.

These ghostly plains, filled with asphodel flowers, are where the souls of people who lived their lives of near equal good and evil rest. In its own way, it is an even less perfect version of life on earth - and beware; those who drink from the river Lethe lose their identities and become mere shells of their old self. Asphodel Meadows is a land of true neutrality.

In the forecourt of the palace of Hades and Persephone sit the three judges of the Underworld: Minos, Rhadamanthus, and Aeakus. There at the trivium, where three roads meets, souls are judged, returned to the Fields of Asphodel if they are neither virtuous nor evil, sent by the road to Tartarus if they are impious or evil, or sent to the Islands of the Blessed with the blameless heroes.

Tartarus was created to be the prison of the old Titan gods, but later became a dungeon for the damned souls. Some say it is surrounded by a flaming river and triple walls to prevent sinners from escaping. Tartarus is a guarded by a hydra with fifty black gaping jaws, which sits at a screeching gate protected by coulms of solid adamantine, a substance akin to diamond. There is also a pit inside which is said to extend down into the earth twice as far as the distance from the lands of the living to Olympus. At the bottom of this pit lie the Titans, the twin sons of Aloeus and many other sinners.

The Elysian Fields, where the pale liliaceous asphodel and poplars grow, are the final resting place of the souls of the heroic and the virtuous. Originally created for the mortal relatives of the king of gods, but now also for those who had led a righteous life, Elysion is a true paradise where their souls can enjoy an immortality of bliss.
