Most of the victims of this crime are Mexican, but tourists also have been involved. If you are going to visit the “Pearl of the Pacific,” be sure to take precautions so that your vacation remains enjoyable. General Conditions Violent crime started to noticeably increase in Mexico in 2006, according to the US State Department, and Mexico has deployed military troops throughout the country to combat the problem. Confrontations between drug gangs and the military have involved automatic weapons and grenades. The State Department says 22,700 people have been killed in narcotics-related violence between 2006 and 2010. While most were drug traffickers, some have been innocent bystanders. http://traveltips.usatoday.com/mazatlan-mexico-safe-tourists-16143.html Edited by breezy, Aug 6 2012, 06:03 AM.

Travel Warning, February 8, 2012 Travel Warning for Mexico, February 8, 2012 http://guadalajara.usconsulate.gov/annoucements/travel-warning-february-8-2012.html The Department of State has issued this Travel Warning to inform U.S. citizens about the security situation in Mexico. General information on the overall security situation is provided immediately below. For information on security conditions in specific regions of Mexico, which can vary, travelers should reference the state-by-state assessments further below. This Travel Warning supersedes the Travel Warning for Mexico dated April 22, 2011 to consolidate and update information about the security situation and to advise the public of additional restrictions on the travel of U.S. government (USG) personnel. General Conditions: Millions of U.S. citizens safely visit Mexico each year for study, tourism, and business, including more than 150,000 who cross the border every day. don't go if it bothers you, some of us prefer to live life rather than lie on a couch. One thing you do have to remember is that random nut incidents in Mexico are rare, most violence is targeted. You could be caught in crossfire, but if you get murdered, 9 times out of 10 you were involved with the drug trade. |

While Americans may be debating a trip to Carnaval in Mazatlan, Canadians seem to have made a clear decision not to visit. In the latest case troubling Canadians, a Calgary woman was found badly beaten in a five star resort hotel elevator last month in Mazatlan and placed in a medically induced coma later undergoing reconstructive surgery for injuries to her face. The headline in Canadian news reports: Calgary woman Sheila Nabb emerges from coma after horrific Mexico hotel beating. Not good a good sign. In 2011, six Canadians were killed in Mexico and 50 were assaulted. According to the State Department US citizens murdered in Mexico increased from 35 in 2007 to 120 in 2011. http://www.gadling.com/2012/02/20/carnaval-mazatlan-a-festive-celebration-but-safe/ Edited by breezy, Aug 6 2012, 06:29 AM.

What you did not say is that that 4 of those 6 were involved in the drug trade the other 2 are suspected of being involved. One who was killed in a home invasion was a heavy cocaine user. The word on the streets in the town where I happen to spend winter is he stiffed his dealer. On the woman who was assaulted in Mazatlan, she was naked in the elevator at 2 AM and it is looking like she was beaten by another Canadian who was first observed with bloody knuckles, then made a hasty retreat from the country with his mother. The police arrested a Mexican fall guy. BTW a Canadian visitor from Toronto was killed 2 weeks ago in a movie theatre in Colorado, one of several Canadians murdered in the US each year, along with 1000's of Americans. |

Buy yourself some Non Drousy Dramime. My wife is very prone to sea and motion sickness. She started with the Draminine, we have since been on three cruises plus smaller boats. She has not been sick once! It works! |

Crime in Mexico: If deadly Mazatlan is out, how about Cancun? " DEADLY MAZATLAN " by Chris Owen (RSS feed) on Mar 28th 2011 at 7:00AM It is an ongoing debate about Mazatlan, Mexico. Justified or not, tourism is down. Land vacations tour operators are being cautious more than ever. Cruise lines refuse to stop due to real or perceived security issues (stabbings, drug lord bombings, no bingo). But those who live there say it is safe. Now, Cancun, Mexico, former poster-city for organized crime is saying "Hey, give US a look why don't ya?" as if the focus has shifted and they are in the clear now. Breeze, if you want to be safe, stay on your sofa. Certainly don't wander outside in your own country, the body count is going up rapidly and most of it is random. |

After recent violent crimes, cruise lines remove Mazatlan from ports-of-call inShare| More Sharing ServicesShare They hoped that it wouldn't happen, but the worst-case scenario has become reality for the port of Mazatlan with the departure of both Holland America Lines and Princess Cruises for the remainder of the winter/early spring cruise travel season. After the departure of Disney Cruises, Norwegian Cruise Lines and Carnival Cruises after cruise passengers were mugged and robbed near the pier in the Pacific Coast resort city, Mazatlan officials were hopeful that their commitment to improved security would keep at least some of the cruise lines in town for the season. But recent murders including that of two men in a popular hotel parking lot in broad daylight sealed the fate of the cruise ship arrivals for the remainder of this season. America the beautiful. Get your Auto-Loaders on sale now at............ It used to be marauding Indians, now it's marauding Americans. Now look at Americans. All we want for Christmas is a semi-automatic and plenty of clips. America is now an armed camp welcoming all comers to "Make Our Day". I guess they will have to change what is written on our money to read, "Now Do You Feel Lucky Punk". "Let Freedom Ring" with the sound of gun fire. I fear we are lost. |

Especially if you don't use it! We had one at the Jupiter Reef Club for several years and it was great. Bought it for about 20 cents on the dollar compared to what it originally sold for, used it every year and sold it for $200 less than we paid for it. Not bad for the 8 years we owned it. It was a lot cheaper than a 2 bedroom suite at a beach front hotel. |
