The occasional spambots

Sometimes, one or two spambots would come here and post their crap around and I sometimes see it when on the Active Topics page. Even though it doesn't happen much, I think further action should be taken. Like, maybe making use of this which is something that queenzelda and I know of, and that I've got it plugged on my forum too when I suffered a sudden influx of them one time :ermm:

Even so, at least this isn't a major problem like how it is over at the ZB support forum, but I still wanted to bring this to the attention of everyone here, even if their posts are wiped out and banned instantly by our mighty lord here.

Thanks a lot - I've implemented it right away :D .

(I've replaced the 'Valid XHTML' icon with it, since some of ZB's own XHTML is invalid, and I'm unable to change that :( )

Yep. With a bit of luck, they're gonna become even more occasional now!

Well, in the sense that that thing you showed me should make them rarer :P .

...and somehow, it didn't work. Some loser named drmohansingh11 just came in but didn't leave behind his trash around. Oh well.

Well, I did say that it helped. It's not perfect. Most forums have another level of security that spambots have to get through before they're allowed in, such as the 'are you human' test, or just code in reCAPTCHA: https://codeforgeek.com/2014/12/google-recaptcha-tutorial/ (Which I've seen on a few forums.) I have my own form of security, invites only. (But, that's me.)

Perhaps they just want to PM people, but they don't realise I've disabled the PM system for new members  ?

I've been noticing that type a lot. Seems like they'd be advertising for doctors/dentists in India. But they don't actually have any posts.

Possibly. But even so, who would want their so-called "professional" service? :P

Hair transplant specialists too.

At least this sort of crap is not like what's seen at the DeviantArt forums. I mean... ick :whatthecrap:

Well, I just EXTERMINATED a new spammer. So not sure this will pan out. It was worth a try, though. You miss 100% of the shots you don't take.
