Auschwitz survivors have urged the world not to allow a repeat of the crimes of the Holocaust as they mark 70 years since the camp's liberation.

"We survivors do not want our past to be our children's future," Roman Kent, born in 1929, told a memorial gathering at the death camp's site in Poland.

Some 300 Auschwitz survivors returned for the ceremony under a giant tent.

Some 1.1 million people, mostly Jews, were killed there between 1940 and 1945, when Soviet troops liberated it.

It is expected to be the last major anniversary event survivors are able to attend in considerable numbers.

It's hard to believe that it's been so long - and that the Holocaust is soon to pass out of living memory. However, when it does, it is vital that the lessons we learned from it are not forgotten.

it's sad that it seems it may happen again and this time muslims are the target instead of those of jewish faith. The winners write history. It will not be forgotten by those who know that it's repeat will be far worse. Sadly it's good for businessmen to profit off of and thats just the sick truth to it.

Well, I think I can safely say that it won't happen again in western Europe (or anywhere else in the developed world, for that matter). There is a small (but vocal) minority of idiots who would seemingly like it to happen again to one group or another, but far too many people who know better. Sadly, it doesn't appear to be so in the developing world, where genocide still exists and is a real problem :( .

As for the businessmen....as I said in another thread, they ultimately don't profit from killing their own customers. There's greed and self-interest, and then there's just being a sociopath.

i guess geroge bushes grandfather was a sociopath then lol, there is evidence that suggests he helped fund those death camps and profited off of them.

Yeah genocide is still a major problem in areas like africa and the middle east which see it on a daily basis when it just should not happen in the first place.
