The final ceramic poppy has been laid at the Tower of London memorial art installation as ceremonies took place in the UK and abroad on Armistice Day.

Large crowds saw 13-year-old army cadet Harry Hayes place the last of 888,246 flowers, each representing a British military death in World War One.

Other remembrance events were held in military bases, churches and schools.

A two-minute silence honouring those killed in conflicts since the start of WW1 took place at at 11:00 GMT.

Cadet Hayes admitted he was nervous, but said "It is an amazing honour, seeing all these poppies and I managed to plant the last one."

Sadly, I haven't been able to go and see this, but I think it's a wonderful memorial, and a worthy commemoration of those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms.

Apparently, the artist behind the memorial has been receiving death threats :( :

They're suggesting it might have been because the money raised went to charities that were "involved in war". I don't understand that, though: why would pacifists, of all people, be sending death threats :-/ ?
