Another Icelandic volcano on the way?

A very minor case of serious brain damage

:iceland: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-28843968 :iceland:

The risk of an eruption at Iceland's Bardarbunga volcano has increased, with signs of "ongoing magma movement", Iceland's meteorological office says.

The risk level to the aviation industry has been raised to orange, the second-highest level, the met office said.

Any eruption could potentially lead to flooding or an emission of gas, the office added in a statement.

The Eyjafjallajokull volcano erupted in 2010, producing an ash cloud that severely disrupted European airspace.

The Bardarbunga volcanic system is located under the north-west region of Iceland's Vatnajokull glacier.

Well, considering the impact the last one had, I hope this doesn't mean we can look forward to another week or so of stranded travellers!

Iceland is basically a giant volcano anyway, since the Mid-Atlantic Ridge runs right through it.

It wouldn't surprise me if there were some adverse effects from this eruption to those outside of Iceland as well. :(

I hope photographers manage to get more pictures of the lightning produced when the eruptions blow apart the glaciers.

Very nice, though :D .

I see that they've had to evacuate the area surrounding the Bardarbunga volcano now:

If nothing else, at least it's easier to spell than "Eyjafjallajokull" :P .

And much easier to pronounce... well, providing there are no diacritics you're missing. :P

I think we're all missing the biggest part of this in that the volcano could threaten the August 30th UCF - Penn State college football game being held in Ireland.

Yeah, I hadn't heard about that :( . What would happen if it got cancelled?

@MILH: Turns out I was. The Icelandic name is "Bárðarbunga" :P .

I guess they'd have to play it at Penn State or UCF or another neutral site.

Looks like there's another possible eruption. This one is under the Vatnajökull glacier, about 30km away from Bárðarbunga:

Well, he hasn't really had a proper chance to answer yet: it's been less than 5 hours since you asked that question.

Anyway, back on-topic, there is some good news. The aviation risk level has been lowered:

Theee question

Anyways what's so bad about a delayed flight lol. Just take another one, pass through the Mediterranean and the tropics then explore Africa.

What ever happened to the Eyawhatever volcano anyways, was there any damage to like people & stuffs or did it all just delay things (which is massive damage in terms of money, I know that, yes)

Well, as far as I'm aware, no people were killed. The impact was mostly economic and environmental.

Lets admire the 'volcanic' aesthetic and the otherworldly atmosphere of Iceland for a moment. It feels like it's a different world!
