http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-derbyshire-28189287 A precious hoard of Roman and Late Iron Age coins has been discovered in a cave where it has lain undisturbed for more than 2,000 years. The treasure trove was unearthed after a member of the public stumbled across four coins in the cave in Dovedale in Derbyshire's Peak District. The discovery prompted a full-scale excavation of the site. Experts say it is the first time coins from these two separate civilisations have been found buried together. Archaeologists discovered 26 coins, including three Roman coins which pre-date the invasion of Britain in AD43, and 20 other gold and silver pieces which are Late Iron Age and thought to belong to the Corieltavi tribe. This is amazing - and the fact that they come from more than one civilization makes this find even more remarkable! I wonder how much the find is worth? |

It's always eye opening to remember that where you are has had so much history to it. Especially regarding the Roman Empire. That dude was probably in awe. |

I read this as a hoard of over 2000 old coins. But that's still an interesting find.

Interesting stuff, the amount of years they were just laying there. I'm sure there are many more treasures to find. Makes me want to go and buy myself a metal detector and hang about a building construction site somewhere :p |
