A very minor case of serious brain damage

The first testing session in Jerez has taken place, and the Mercedes-engined teams have done well there, but the Renaul-engined teams - most notably Red Bull - have struggled. First pre-season tests usually don't mean a lot, but even so, I'm going to make some predictions:

  • Mercedes will be the team to beat. However, others, such as McLaren and Ferrari, will be close behind. Red Bull will also join the mix and become title contenders when/if they can sort out their engine issues.
  • McLaren will have a much better season. They have a quick car, a proven and experienced driver in Jenson Button, and a very promising young charger in Kevin Magnussen. They also have Éric Boullier, so there should be fewer of the blunders that cost them dearly in 2012 and 2013.
  • Force India and Williams will become more competitive. Everything looks promising for these Mercedes-engined teams with strong driver line-ups. I predict that both will be regular points-scorers. Behind the "Big Four" of Ferrari, McLaren, Red Bull and Mercedes, these two will be the "best of the rest", and will fight for 5th in the Constructors' Championship.
  • Lotus will have a nightmare season. They've lost several key team members, missed the first test, suffered from financial trouble, and got a very fast, but worringly inconsistent driver in Pa$tor Maldonado. Other than Romain Grosjean, it's difficult to see what aces they might have up their sleeve.
  • Attrition will allow Caterham and/or Marussia to score their first point. I hope so, anyway :P !
What do you predict will happen?
