http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_MKUltra

From what I've read (which hasn't been much), MKULTRA was a project by the U.S. Government from 1953-1973 to discover methods of mind control along with researching drugs that could do things such as improve a person's ability to withstand torture, induce paralysis, memory loss, brain damage, slower/faster aging, and "alter personality structure in such a way that the tendency of the recipient to become dependent upon another person is enhanced." These tests were conducted on "unwitting U.S. and Canadian citizens."

An interesting part of the story is the death of Frank Olson.

I haven't read anything about it beyond the wiki, so I'm pretty much just posting this here to give something to search if you're bored or interested in this kind of stuff.

I've heard the whole "Wiki isn't a reliable source" crap a million times already, but I'm guessing this stuff wasn't pulled out of thin air.

A very minor case of serious brain damage

I don't think I'd heard of it at all until now. Pretty shocking, but did much useful knowledge ever come from it?

Well considering they ordered the destruction of all the files regarding this project, I doubt they got much of anything from it.

I've heard of all of this stuff before. All of the supersoldier/superspy kinda stuff that the Army and Gov. did. The cold war made us do some pretty crazy stuff.
