A very minor case of serious brain damage

Formula E has given fans the first glimpse of the car that will be used during the official unveiling on Tuesday.

The new Championship will make its debut next season and the Spark-Renault SRT_01E was revealed to the world on the opening day of the Frankfurt Motor Show with FIA President Jean Todt and Formula E Holdings CEO Alejandro Agag taking off the covers.

The SRT-01E, with a Dallara chassis made from carbon fibre and aluminium, is a fully-electric single-seater and was designed and built by Spark Racing Technology.

Some of Formula One's biggest names are also involved with McLaren Electronics Systems providing the electric motor, gearbox and electronics, and Williams Advanced Engineering responsible for the batteries and battery-management systems.

Tyre manufacturer Michelin, meanwhile, has promised a durable 18-inch compound that will cater for wet and dry conditions.

So, it's been a year since Formula E was announced, and it's really getting somewhere, which is encouraging. The car looks interesting: I'd say it has 75% of the look of a Formula One car, and 25% of the look of an endurance racer.
