A very minor case of serious brain damage

The US Open is due to start on Monday, and the draw has now been conducted:

:tennis-ball: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2013_US_Open_%E2%80%93_Men%27s_Singles :tennis-ball:

128 players will compete in the Men's Singles. Eight of them (one from each section) will make it to the quarter-finals - but which eight? It's up to you to predict that - with a couple of special rules:
  • This contest closes at the beginning of the first match.
  • Your prediction can't just be the top 8 seeds - that's too easy and boring.
  • Because qualifying hasn't finished yet, if you want to predict that a qualifier will make the quarter-finals in a particular section, you don't have to mention them by name (just say "A qualifier" or something)
You'll receive posts for each one you predict correctly, as follows:

Prize structure

I predict that the eight quarter-finalists will be:
Section 1 - :serbia: Novak Djokovic [1];
Section 2 - :germany: Tommy Haas [12];
Section 3 - :uk: Andy Murray [3];
Section 4 - :south-africa: Kevin Anderson [17];
Section 5 - :canada: Milos Raonic [10];
Section 6 - :spain: David Ferrer [4];
Section 7 - :australia: Bernard Tomic;
Section 8 - :spain: Rafael Nadal [2].

Good luck!

1. Novak Djokovic [1]
2. Juan Martín del Potro [6]
3. Andy Murray [3]
4. Tomas Berdych [5]
5. Richard Gasquet [8]
6. Jerzy Janowicz [14]
7. Roger Federer [7]
8. Rafael Nadal [2]

Baker is not going to beat delPo or Haas, Poke, he'll probably lose in the first or second round.
Raonic I say will probably fall apart in the second or third round lol.

Well, it's worth a shot, because he gets 50 posts if he's right. I'd be very surprised if he is, but that's sort of the point - I did structure the prizes to enourage people to be adventurous with their guessing :P .

So much for Janowicz...

Also Poke, Baker went out in the first round like I thought.

So much for Tomic too....

I'm starting to get worried that it'll end up just being the top 8 seeds - the one prediction I didn't allow :( .

Let's see, every one got section 1 right with Djokovic.
No one got Youzhny for the second section.
Every one got Andy Murray right (section 3).
Poke got Wawrinka right (section 4).
Poke and myself got Gasquet right (section 5).
Poke and CJ got Ferrer right (section 6).
No one got Robredo right (section 7).
Everyone got Nadal right (section 8).

Poke got 6 right.
I got 4 right.
CJ got 3 right.

The actual quarter-finalists are:

Section 1: :serbia: Novak Djokovic [1] (CJ, Luma, P73: +2 posts);
Section 2: :russia: Mikhail Youzhny [21];
Section 3: :uk: Andy Murray [3] (CJ, Luma, P73 +2 posts);
Section 4: :switzerland: Stanislas Wawrinka [9] (P73 +10 posts);
Section 5: :france: Richard Gasquet [8] (Luma, P73 +2 posts);
Section 6: :spain: David Derrer [4] (CJ, P73 +2 posts);
Section 7: :spain: Tommy Robredo [19];
Section 8: :spain: Rafael Nadal [2] (CJ, Luma, P73 +2 posts).

The scores are, therefore, as follows:

Congrats, Pokemon73 :) !

EDIT: And I get ninja'd. XD

Except that there are a lot of good people. Too many people to guess them all :P .

Anyway, now that the contest has been completed, I'll close this.
