A very minor case of serious brain damage

Excavations for London's Crossrail project have unearthed bodies believed to date from the time of the Black Death.

A burial ground was known to be in an area outside the City of London, but its exact location remained a mystery.

Thirteen bodies have been found so far in the 5.5m-wide shaft at the edge of Charterhouse Square, alongside pottery dated to the mid-14th Century.

Analysis will shed light on the plague and the Londoners of the day.

DNA taken from the skeletons may also help chart the development and spread of the bacterium that caused the plague that became known as the Black Death.

Interesting find. I wonder what we'l learn from it?

It would probably be best to leave them

.

I agree with Richard here. I think they should be left alone or at least re-buried near a museum.

Well, I'm sure they'll be re-buried properly once the research is over.

Anyway, this project is aiming to build an underground high-speed railway across London, so maybe they'll be able to find some more interesting things.

Considering if it's for that purpose, i'd have a research/archaeological team on stand-by, you're digging under London, you're bound to find something

Yeah, that's what they're doing. They conducted significant research prior to starting on the project.

Well....over the past couple of years, they've found more. By which I mean, a lot more. 5,000 human remains, in fact:

Yeah, I expect there will be. Probably not a lot of hope of finding living relatives for all of them, though!

no i suppose not but at least they won't be heaped in a massive pile in some forgotten hole in the ground.

Yeah, true. They're being excavated now, and once the archaelologists have finished studying them, they'll be re-buried in a field somewhere in Essex:

Yeah, and hopefully they'll be able to put names on at least a small number of them, but I don't know what the prospects of that are.

Well, probably not going as far back as that. I imagine they'll have birth/death records at most.
